Lafarge - is applying to amend their permit for an extension in the dates to complete
their expansion by a year. The timeline for reducing emissions has not changed.

Green House Gases Action Toolkit Workshop, Canmore - The Town of Canmore has
invited BVCAS to a workshop to discuss how we are taking action on reducing our
greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions here in Canmore.

This workshop will be part of an exciting initiative called The Greenhouse Gas Action
Toolkit for Alberta Communities. Canmore is one of approximately 10 communities who
are being asked to share our knowledge and experiences in this area to help inform the
development of this Toolkit. At this session, we will discuss what's working, where there
are barriers and how we can collaborate to reduce GHG emissions in our community.

The workshop will be held on Monday June 6th from 1 – 4 pm at the Civic Centre
Classroom. BVCAS will be attending the workshop and will prepare a strategy at our
June 2nd monthly meeting. More information on the workshop can be found here.

Maclean’s Magazine (April 25) under EARTH DAY CANADA 2011 had a profile on
Heather MacFadyen who won the 2010 Earth Day Canada’s Individual Home Town
Heroes award. The profile can be viewed here.

Melancthon Quarry

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgS0m2XtBbI (You don't really have to put on

the sound - the pictures say it all) This is a video regarding the proposed Melancthon
Quarry - about a half hour drive north of Orangeville, an hour north of Toronto. The
details are truly disturbing. All this for an AMERICAN company! An on-line petition will
soon be available. In the meantime, please look at this video then pass it on.

Join our Society - BVCAS has a small operating budget and our only form of income is
from memberships. We encourage you to join our Society so that we may sustain our
Society now and in the future. Membership fees are $10.00 per individual and $15.00
per family. Click here to obtain a membership form. We thank those who have already
joined/renewed their membership for 2011.

Sincerely,
Shirley Mushey, President
