May 10th Breakfast – Setting a new course for tourism
in Eastern Ontario.
BY: MEGAN COUGHLIN, PRESIDENT

Tourism Organization) speakers Libby Smith and Richard

Canadian Chamber of Commerce and endorsed by the Ontario for the region that stretches from Prince Edward County
Chamber. Remember that as a member of the Greater Kingston to Cornwall.
Chamber of Commerce, you are also part of the larger provincial
and national counterparts, each with their strategic mandates. Following an introduction by past RTO 9 co-chair and
owner of First Canada Inns in Kingston Bill Swan,
“Get Connected” might seem like a very simple mantra for
Chambers to have; but as I learned at the Ontario Chamber of Richard Johnston, RTO 9 Board President gave a

resolution pass that requests the OCC to lobby the Provincial
Government to change restrictions placed on skilled trades. This
ensures that the hard work over the past few years is not
forgotten and that the current restrictions that some apprentices
face must continue to be looked at. Trades are an essential part
of the business community and hurdles, especially now, can have
huge implications on employment opportunities in our
communities. If a tradesperson cannot find apprentice work in
Ontario, they move out of province. It is a topic such as this that
we encourage you to bring forward to your Chamber. Make your
voice heard and your membership will work for you!
