Dear VBS Worker,

Thank you for making a difference through VBS 2010!

Vacation Bible School is always a highlight of our church year. It is a time for us to enjoy the
children of our church, but also to reach out in our community to other children and their
families. New prospects can be discovered for our church through VBS than through any
other short-term program. Thank you for your gift of time, effort, and energy in being a part
of this effort to reach our community for Christ.

The purpose of this handbook is to help you to be a more informed and effective VBS worker
this year. We have tried to include all significant information concerning this year's VBS. If
you notice something that is incorrect or think of something that should be added, please let
me know.

The two most important things you can do to insure the success of our VBS is prayer and
planning. Please let me know if I can be of any help to you as you prepare. You should
know by now what your responsibilities will be. If there are any questions, please get in touch
with me. If you need any special materials, resources, or help in any way, please let me
know. I am planning to remain available to you as much as possible before and during the
week of VBS to help you do your job. My responsibility during VBS is mainly to make your
job as easy as possible.

Our VBS is designed for children from ages four through completion of sixth grade. Age-
Group departments are organized as follows: If any youth come older that this age group that
is fine. We will not discourage them from coming.

We have a weekend of hard work ahead of us. But it will be a weekend of service to our
Lord, which He has promised to bless; and it will be a time that touches lives of hundreds of
children and make a real difference in their lives for all eternity. Think of it as an opportunity,
and rely on God for the strength you will need. Thanks again for allowing God to work
through you in ministering the love of Jesus to others.

God Bless,

VBS Director
WHAT’S NEW FOR VBS
The rotational schedule and approach will be the format in this year’s VBS. Here’s a
quick overview; it will be very important for you to attend the next training session to
get the full picture. Our stations will be called “Markets” due to the nature of our topic.

THEME
This year’s Journey in to Egypt will be integrated into every area of VBS,
from the publicity through the worship service and the rotation stations.
Every activity the children are part of during the day will reflect the
theme and the day’s Bible message.

SCHEDULE AND STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES

We will have designated workers for bible/missions, music, crafts,
refreshments, and recreation, who will be prepared to do the same set
of activities for all children. Opening will take place in the Worship
session with opening remarks, music, drama, and offering, but the
department workers will accompany their children to each activity center
in 30-minute cycles. Parents may pick up their children in the sanctuary.
Please sit with the children during assembly.

WORSHIP
The worship session in the Worship-Activities Center (sanctuary) at the
beginning of the day will be contemporary DVD music. Children should
go directly to their places (assigned pew) when they arrive following
their registration. Three students will present the flags and Bible. We
will say the pledges. We will close in the sanctuary each day.

SATURDAY HOTDOG LUNCH

Our schedule will allow us to provide the kids and adults lunch following
the Saturday service. Our snack station volunteers will help prepare a
simple lunch of hotdogs, chips, cookies, and drink.

SUNDAY

Carry In dinner for everyone along with a Fill-A-Pew Contest..

GENERAL INFORMATION
WORSHIP SERVICE
Each day (Thursday, Friday & Saturday) the children will assemble in the
Church Sanctuary for a time of worship and celebration. On Sunday, they will
meet downstairs for music practice for the Worship service. Children should
go directly to their seats in the church upon arrival; a pew will be designated
for the various age groups. Workers need to sit with the children at all times.
Please plan to walk with them to their designated station following this
opening. Those who are walking the children back and forth to their stations
and are responsible for this. Other workers will need to be there for keeping
order and may leave to go to their stations before the children leave. Worship
time will consist of prayer, offering, music, drama (Bible message - theme
related) and pledges. We will close each day in the sanctuary.

OFFERING
One of the opportunities of VBS is teaching about stewardship and missions.
We will have a contest between the boys and the girls. The offering will be
announced on Sunday. This offering will be sent to our missionaries.

REGISTRATION
We will attempt to pre-enroll as many children as possible through our Sunday
school, telephone, or home visitation. We will need as many workers as
possible involved in promotion by distributing flyers in the community so we
can publicize our VBS. We will have an enrollment center set up in the church
foyer for registration each day as well.

RECORDS
Accurate records are essential to quality follow-up with the children who
attend VBS and their families. Please get a registration card filled out
completely for everyone who attends. Registration cards will be
provided.

VBS FILL-A-PEW DAY

Families of children enrolled in the VBS will be invited to the Fill-A-Pew
Day on Sunday morning at 10:300 a.m. Invite someone to share the
results of our Children’s VBS, and to hear our guest speaker. VBS Fill-A-
Pew Day will begin with the Worship Celebration. A special guest speaker
will be here for the children and their families. The children will present
the songs they have been learning.

We will have a VBS picnic following the Worship Service to allow the
parents to meet the workers, and for friends to get better acquainted. We
will serve a potluck dinner of two dishes and a drink from all families
possible. We will try to show slides of our VBS during this service if
possible.

Parent Letter
2010 VBS Vacation Bible School
(YOUR) Church

August 2, 2010

Dear Parents,

We would like to take this opportunity and say thank you for allowing us the privilege of
working with your children this year. “Journey in to Egypt VBS 2010” is our theme
and the kids have been having a blast learning about Forgiving and Serving Others.
Of all the things we do for our children, giving them opportunity to learn about Jesus
and His eternal hope is tops.

This year we have had some incredible times with the kids beginning with our Thursday
night kickoff. The church was ablaze with activity as the kids learned Egyptian songs,
ate cool snacks, participated in crafts and tent meetings, and heard the amazing facts
about God’s Word interwoven with drama.

We invite you, your child/children, and friends to join us on Sunday, August 3, for our
Vacation Bible School program. The children need to arrive at 9:30 a.m. for practice.
Adults may join in the fellowship room for coffee and donuts. The morning Worship will
begin at 10:00 a.m. for families and friends in the sanctuary. We have a contest going
of for the top three who bring the most guest during VBS– a Chuck E Cheese trip.

We will have Remy & Friends, Guest Speakers and Dinner immediately following the
service to celebrate this final day of VBS. We will be taking a VBS mission offering
during the service and the children need your help to support their offerings. The
winners between the boys and girls get to water blast the Pastor after dinner. Please
make time for this final exciting day. We look forward to seeing you this Sunday for the
program.

Blessings,

VBS Director
