2/2011 Dear friends and colleagues, ladies and gentlemen,


When I took office some eight months ago, I did not know what I
DAAD- was in for. I don’t think that half a year ago anybody would have
predicted the ousting of long-time president Mubarak and the
Programmes revolution that followed 25 January. Egypt as a country, its people
and society and certainly also its universities and research institu-
tions have undergone tremendous change since then and are still
in the process of transformation. The revolution is still ongoing –
DAAD Cairo Events however, nobody knows yet which destination the Egyptian revo-
lutionary journey is finally arriving at.

Study Program- In these both difficult and exciting times, Germany and the DAAD
will continue to work very closely with its Egyptian partners. In

Who can apply?

DAAD- Applications are open to participants from Germany, Egypt and

The German Egyptian Research Short term Schol-
arship (GERSS)
DAAD- The German Egyptian Research Short term Scholarship
Programmes (GERSS) is a program jointly funded by the Ministry of Higher
Education and Scientific Research (MHESR) and the German
Academic Exchange Service, Bonn (DAAD) in order to finance
short term scholarships for young Egyptian scientists to travel to
DAAD Cairo Events Germany. The target groups of the program are researchers en-
rolled in MSc, PhD programs and young Post Doctoral candi-
dates.

Study Program- There are two calls for application annually: the autumn call,
which starts in September and ends mid of October and the

April. The GERSS Scholarships are being announced for the third
successive year.

The German Egyptian Research Long term
Scholarship
DAAD- GERLS 2011/2012

Programmes In the context of the 3rd Call of the German-Egyptian Long Term
Scholarship Program (GERLS), which is a jointly financed schol-
arship program between the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Educa-
tion & Scientific Research (MHESR) and the German Academic
DAAD Cairo Events Exchange Service (DAAD); we would like to extend our congratu-
lations to all candidates who have been granted the GERLS
scholarship for the academic year 2011/2012!

candidates to obtain or complete their PHD in one of the German

MARIE CURIE FELLOWSHIPS IN THE GERDA HEN-
DAAD- KEL FOUNDATION’S M4HUMAN PROGRAMME
Programmes Call for Proposals
Starting in 2011, the Gerda Henkel Foun-

Following the application phase, all fully completed applications
are evaluated by the International Advisory Committee and the
Academic Advisory Committee of the Gerda Henkel Foundation.

of the applicant and the academic quality of the project. The final
decision on all applications is made by the Foundation’s Board of
Trustees, based on the recommendations of these two bodies.

Test DaF

The DAAD Cairo Office is a licensed Test Centre in which inter-


DAAD- ested parties can set the TestDaF. TestDaF is a certified lan-
guage test for foreigners who learn German and intend to study in
