Enterprise Strategy Program

Putting Business Before Technology

In today’s complex corporate environment, the lines tend to blur between business objectives and the technology
that can help achieve those objectives. Even with the best of intentions your corporate technology may actually
limit—and even begin to define—your business objectives.

As your business places ever-increasing demands on your technology infrastructure, it’s easy to lose sight of the
big picture: instead of business goals driving technology, technology begins to drive business goals. Rather than
approaching technology with strategic, long-term vision, businesses find themselves looking for short-term solutions,
without fully realizing the value of the technologies in which they’ve already invested.

Introducing the Microsoft® Enterprise Strategy Program. An executive-level engagement program, led by a
dedicated Enterprise Architect skilled in aligning your existing Microsoft Enterprise Agreement with your company’s
business objectives.

The Enterprise Strategy Program is designed to help you maximize the return on investment for your entire Microsoft
software portfolio and services. After all, nobody knows Microsoft products and their capabilities better than
Microsoft. But more than that, the Enterprise Strategy Program has been created to help you get the most from
your entire heterogeneous enterprise-wide technical landscape. With the Enterprise Architect, you’ll get proven
solutions and guidance from an executive that has faced and delivered on the same kinds of challenges you’re
dealing with today, and the experience gleaned from a software company that has learned from countless enterprise
engagements across the globe.

The Value of the Enterprise Strategy Program

According to Forrester Research*, the following benefits are the outcome of an Enterprise Strategy
Program engagement:
■■ Accelerating business and IT outcomes. A broad combination of Enterprise Strategy Program activities may
allow customers to reach their desired end-states faster, often with improved outcomes. This results in faster
“time-to-market” for projects with associated downstream benefits, and reduced labor expense associated
with project implementation.
■■ De-risking the IT environment. By creating effective business-technology roadmaps and leveraging best
practice advice, customers may be able to reduce both project execution and operational risk from their IT
environments. This results in reduced IT operations labor expense and project rework costs.
■■ Optimizing business/IT alignment. Having access to the right business stakeholders allows Enterprise
Architects to create optimized IT/business roadmaps, and ensure that the appropriate Microsoft technologies
are used to maximize business outcomes. This results in improved timeliness and quality of IT delivered, which
generates incremental user productivity and avoids project rework costs.

Business Before Technology

■■ Maximizing the value derived from the Microsoft portfolio. Enterprise Architects can identify opportunities to
re-use Microsoft assets in multiple applications, and to substitute Microsoft assets for third-party applications.
This avoids third-party software maintenance expense and internal labor needed to support these products.
■■ Unlocking assets to create future business value. An Enterprise Architect’s expertise and understanding of
a customer’s business environment will enable him or her to maximize your Microsoft investment which may
provide additional business value in the future. New project investment is required to enable new capabilities
that would generate business value.
