Why we want to do this experiment?
We can develop our understanding of laughter
(since WE laugh a lot) and why it is contagious.
We also want to see how it affects us.

Why is laughter contagious?
J r Hypothesis:
It‫ڊ‬s contagious because when you see others
laughing/ smiling, it puts you in the same/
similar mood, and makes you want to do the same
thing.
J r Proced re/ Method:
We are going to get 4 people & place them in 4
different corners of a room.
3 of them: Close their eyes- keep them closed
till we say to open them
The other 1: Lay down on the floor & we (Jamie
and Nandini) tickle them.
1st: Just let the other 3 HEAR the person getting
tickled laugh.
2nd: Let the 3, LOOK at the person getting
tickled.

times.
nalyise Data:
We found out that laughter IS contagious because
it effects our body in a way that we can‫ڊ‬t
resist doing the same thing. We don‫ڊ‬t think
there is a definite answer but we have proven
that LAUGHTER IS CONTAGIOUS! å

We are not using measurement in this cycle (#1),
we will try to use measurement in the next cycle.

Draw Concl sions:
Only people who have a ‫ڍ‬laughing addiction‫ڎ‬,
they start laughing just when they HEAR someone
else laughing. Whereas others have to SEE the
person laughing, then they laugh along.
Obviously, our hypothesis IS PROVED!! å
ºheory:
Laughter IS contagious because when someone else
laughs, your body just CAN‫ڊ‬T resist it.

Why we want to do this experiment?
We want to get a better understanding of why
laughter is contagious. To go on with this, we
are using time to see how long it takes people
to start laughing.
J r Q estion:
How long does it take for people to react to the
contagious laughter?
J r Hypothesis:
On average, it will take 4-5 seconds for someone
to start laughing with their eyes CLOSED and 1-3
seconds with their eyes OPEN.
J r Proced re/ Method:
Have 2 people in different corners of a room.
# 1: Keep their eyes CLOSED and just HEAR the
other person laughing.
# 2: We (Jamie and Nandini) are going to tickle
this person to make them laugh.
We are going to time how long it takes #1 to
start laughing with their eyes CLOSED as well as
OPEN.
Try this experiment with 2 boys, 2 girls and
both together.
nalyise Data:
On average, it took a person 2.2 seconds to
laugh with their eyes OPEN. ( We thought it
would take between 1-3 seconds) It took a person
4.9 seconds, on average to start laughing with
their eyes CLOSED. ( We thought it would take
between 4-5 seconds.)
Draw Concl sions:
Our hypothesis was DEFINITELY proved because,
through our experiments we have shown that
laugher IS contagious and we have tried the
experiment with a variety of people. The time
that we thought it would take was pretty much
the same as the actual time!
ºheory:
It is easier for someone to start laughing when
they can see AND hear others laughing, rather
than JUST hear them.
