5. Fire-fighting Measures
Suitable extinguishing media:
dry chemical, carbon dioxide, water fog, to prevent re-ignition, flood with water
Hazard from combustion products:
carbon black, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, styrene(traces), other degradation products(traces)
Special fire fighting instructions:
use approved self-contained breathing apparatus respirator and approved personal protective clothing
Future information:
- May be released on heating : pentane
- Foaming, with increased liberation of blowing agents, at above 70℃
- Pentane can diffuse out and from explosive mixture with air.
6. Accidental Release Measures
Personal precautions : ensure adequate ventilation
Environmental precautions : sources of ignition should be kept clear
Method for cleaning up : sweep/shovel up to prevent slipping

7. Handling and Storage

Handling (safety precautions)
- Avoid heat, flames, sparks and other sources of ignition.
- Take precautionary measures against static discharges.
- Pentane can diffuse out and form explosive mixtures with air.
- Sealed containers should be protected against heat as this results in pressure build-up.
- Containers under pressure should be opened with care and the pressure then released.
Storage: Store in well-ventilated cool location, away from combustible materials.

8. Exposure Controls / Personal Protection

Exposure limits (for pentane):
- PEL(OSHA) ; 1,000 ppm 8 hour TWA
- TLV(ACGIH) ; 600 ppm, TWA ; 750 ppm STEL
General control measure:
Use positive ventilation and provide electrostatic bonding and grounding of equipment.
Pensonal protective equipments:
- Respiratory protection
: Use approved air purifying respirators with organic vapor cartridge for exposures above health limits.
- Skin protection ; None under normal conditions.
- Eye protection ; ANSI-Approved safety glasses with side shields.
