PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
PROGRESS ENERGY - RALEIGH, NC 2010
Smart Grid IT Sourcing Lead (Contract - Mar-Oct 2010)
Developed and implemented processes to manage the IT resource staffing including
hiring, training, on-boarding, and assignments for the corporation's Department
of Energy Smart Grid Investment Grant projects.
* Developed documented processes for requesting contract resources, providing ca
ndidate information and resumes to requesters, and tracking candidates for reque
sted positions. Automated part of the tracking process which enabled requesting
managers to quickly review resumes and other candidate information.
* Co-developed a resource domain matrix for categorizing IT technical resource n
eeds and skills. This matrix was the foundation to create job descriptions for
future IT needs, and was also used as the basis for an RFP for IT consulting ser
vices.
* Created new analysis reports which helped management and corporate real estate
in the ongoing development of personnel resource forecasts and office space pla
ns.
IBM - Research Triangle Park, NC 1996 to 2009
Resource Deployment Manager (2008 to 2009)
Managed the personnel staffing and deployment of four senior managers and 18 fir
st-line managers for the largest director organization in the business unit (alm
ost 400 people). Coordinated with corporate staffing managers worldwide and ass
isted employees with their reassignments.
* Managed the creation and staffing of more than 350 resource requests in only 1
2 months, reducing labor costs and moving a significant amount of work to Brazil
, Argentina, India, China, Mexico and the Philippines with very minimal interrup
tion to the business units and customers.
* Assisted and placed over 130 employees on new assignments internally in the co
mpany, nearly twice the number placed by the other manager.
Professional Development Manager (1998 to 2001, 2004 to 2008)
Handled all aspects of human resources for IT technical and project management d
epartments including: performance appraisals, compensation (allocating merit pa
y according to established policies), and education and development plans. In a
ddition, coordinated a subset of the administrative tasks for an additional 150+
foreign employees working on the same projects.
* Volunteered as an HR investigator in employee appeals, including close coordin
ation with internal legal counsel to respond to a difficult employee-initiated l
itigation.
* Maintained efficiency, productivity and employee satisfaction during the cours
e of a series of corporate cost-cutting measures which doubled the number of dir
ect reports to 50 spread out across the country.
* Mentored several direct reports who moved into high-level technical leadership
or management.
Business Area Manager (2001 to 2004)
Managed a corporate service center/center of competency of database administrato
rs (DBA) located throughout the US. Managed budget of $10,000,000, work assignm
ents of over 60 professionals and nearly 200 projects.
* Co-proposed and implemented the first service center within the organization,
developing many of the processes that served as a model for other service center
s, including: presentation materials, proposal and estimation processes and for
ms, service contracts, and status/accomplishment reports.
* Achieved 3-year revenue growth from $2M at inception to $10M+ and significantl
y lowered customer costs without degrading DBA support by championing the busine
ss case for the service center.
* Improved service center effectiveness and customer cost savings and satisfacti
on by standardizing and documenting many technical processes into repeatable and
reusable tasks by any technical staff member.
Information Technology Specialist (1996 to 1998)
Directed and project managed the development of a complex financial interface fo
r a major SAP implementation at an IBM plant location. Designed and developed t
he technical specifications, coordinated the coding and testing, and personally
wrote some of the SAP code. Participated on the project Architectural Review Co
mmittee and was later assigned chairperson.
* Implemented an on-time interface - rated as one of the most complex functions
- exceeding customer expectations. Received a special bonus award for SAP imple
mentation.
* Developed the ISO 9000 Quality Management System (QMS) for the IBM Global Serv
ices/PC Company SAP development department.
