Bisericile din Moldova

Nicdieri in Rom6nia nu se afld adunate,
pe un spaliu at6t de restr6ns, mai multe
biserici, mdnistiri gi schituri ca in provincia
Moldova.
Cele mai multe dintre ele au o vechime de
sute 5i sute de ani. Ridicate mai ales de
voievozii moldavi din familia Mu;atinilor
(Petru I Mugat, lliag, Petru, Alexandru cel
Bun, Bogdan al ll-lea, gtefan cel Mare, petru
Rareg), aceste splendide mdndstiri serveau,
in acela;i timp, gi ca necropole domnegti.
Potrivit cronicarului lon Neculce, ltefan
cel Mare (1457-1504), ,,zidul de apdrare
al cre;tiniitSlii'1 dupS fiecare din bdtiliile
purtate cu turcii, ungurii gi polonii in cei
47 de ani de domnie, ar fi construit c6te o
bisericd sau mdndstire. Din secolele al XV-lea
gi al XVI-lea dateaz6 valoroasele biserici

mindstiri de la Arbore, Vorone!, Humor,
Moldovila, Probota, Pdtrduli, Sucevila gi
in patrimoniul Mondial
Suceava, inscrise
UNESCO.

Churches of Moldaoia

Nowhere in Romania can more churches, monosteries, and hermitages be found in such a
compact area than in Moldavia. Most of them are hundreds of years old. Built mainly by the
Moldavian voievodes of the Mu;atin family (Petru MuSat l, Alexandru the Good, Bogdon ll,
Stephen the Great, Petru Rarel, these splendid monasteries simultaneously served as princely
tombs. According to the chronicler lon Neculce, Stephen the Greqt (1457-1504), "the bastion
of Christianityi during his forty-seven year reign, built o church or a monastery after each of his
battles against the Turks, Hungarians or Poles. From the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries date the
churches at Arbore, Vorone.t, Humor, Moldovifa, Probota, Patrdu,ti, Sucevifa, ond Suceava, which
are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
