Most employers know that California “wage orders” regulate
how they must pay employees, including overtime and show-
up pay. But most employers don’t know that the wage orders
create other requirements such as making chairs available,
keeping clocks in the workplace, and maintaining minimum
restroom temperatures.
California courts recently approved penalty claims for almost
every violation of state wage orders – leading to many new
class and “representative” lawsuits for common issues such
as not having stools available at cash registers.
This presentation will discuss recent developments and
common wage order requirements applicable to most
employers. We will help employers avoid this spate of lawsuits
by following a simple rule: know your wage order!
Presented by Richard Rybicki of Rybicki & Associates, P.C.,
a management-side employment law firm based in Napa.
