PREVALENCIA DEL SINDROME DE BURNOUT EN MEDICOS RESIDENTES
DE LOS POST-GRADOS DE MEDICINA.

RESUMEN: El síndrome de Burnout (SB) es un trastorno adaptativo crónico asociado
con el inadecuado afrontamiento de las demandas psicológicas del trabajo que altera la calidad de vida de la persona que lo padece y produce un efecto negativo en la calidad de la prestación de los servicios. OBJETIVOS: determinar la prevalencia de síndrome de Burnout en los alumnos de los postgrados de medicina de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras. (UNAH). METODOLOGÍA: estudio descriptivo transversal que se realizo mediante la escala de Maslach y además se evaluaron los aspectos sociodemográficos en relación con la presencia del síndrome. RESULTADOS: se evaluaron 286 residentes sin diferencias sociodemográficas entre ellos, de los cuales 183 (64%) presentaron el síndrome de Burnout lo cual fue estadísticamente significativo para una P de 0.02. Con la distribución del síndrome de Burnout por postgrados se encontró estadísticamente significativa en Neurocirugía (P= 0.01). Ginecología y Obstetricia (P= 0.02) y Oftalmología (P= 0.04). No se encontraron diferencias significativas entre el síndrome de Burnout y las características sociodemográficas. CONCLUSIÓN: el síndrome de Burnout tiene una alta prevalencia (64%) en los alumnos de los postgrados de Medicina de la UNAH, con mayor riesgo de presentarlo en los postgrados de Neurocirugía, Ginecología y Obstetricia y Oftalmología. PALABRAS CLAVES: Síndrome de Burnout, Prevalencia, Inventario de Maslach, médicos residentes. ________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT: Burnout Syndrome is a chronic adaptative disorder associated with the inadequate confrontation of the psychological demands that affect the quality of life of the person that has it and causes a negative effect in the quality of the attention offered by the medical residents. OBJECTIVES: Determine the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in the students of the medical residency programs offered by the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras (UNAH). METHODS: Transversal descriptive study, with the application of the Maslach Scale and we also evaluated the social demographic aspects in association with the presence of the syndrome. RESULTS: Two hundred eighty six residents were evaluated with no social demographic differences among them, of whom 183 (64%) had Burnout Syndrome, which was statistically significant the following results: Neurosurgery (P= 0.01), Obstetrics and Gynecology (P=0.02) and Ophthalmology (P= 0.04). No significant difference was found between Burnout Syndrome and the social demographic characteristics. CONCLUSION: Burnout Syndrome has a high prevalence (64 %) among medical residents of the UNAH, having a major risk of presenting it, the following residencies: Neurosurgery, Obstetrics/ Gynecology and Ophthalmology.
