Linking To Files
OpenDrive Web | 25

The first link displayed, at the top of the page, is the URL of the OpenDrive page where your
file is located. This is an indirect link. People who use this link will be directed to an
OpenDrive page from which they can download the file.
Direct Linking
There are two types of direct links or hotlinks available:
Embedding
You can copy and paste the embed code into a web page or blog, which contains a basic
media player capable of playing audio and video files. For an example of what the media
player looks like, please see Playing and Previewing Files.
Thumbnails
A type of embed code for picture and document files that will generate a thumbnail preview
of a picture or icon for a file. The thumbnail contains a link for directly downloading the file.
OpenDrive Web | 26
Online File Editing and Previewing
OpenDrive Web | 27
Edit and Preview Window
Clicking on any file or document will bring up a window that will give you the options to edit
or preview your document or file.
Previewing Files
When a file such a picture is clicked, you will be able to see the picture without having to
open or download it. You will also be able to zoom in and out, as well as share a link to the
picture or download it to your computer.
Editing Documents
Word, Excel and PowerPoint compatible documents, as well as some others, can be edited
online without the need to have the software installed on your system. The editing options
are:
• Edit File and Replace Current Version: The file will be overwritten with a new
version once editing is complete and file is saved.
• Edit File and Create a New Version: A new version of the file will be created that
will contain all current changes and will be named according to version when
saved. This makes it easier to track changes and recover from mistakes with as
little data loss as possible.
Once you have selected the desired option, click the Edit Online box to open the online
editor, which works in a similar fashion to the office software suite you are familiar with.
Note: You must have Online Editing enabled to edit your documents online.
Download
Clicking this link will allow you to download the file to your computer.
Share
Clicking the share link will toggle a small sub-window containing the URL link of the file that
you can copy and share with others. Note: you must have the file’s permissions set to Public
or Hidden to share files in this way.
Thumbnails List

need to close and re-open the preview window.

Playing Files Online
OpenDrive Web | 29
OpenDrive Media Player
This simple yet effective tool is similar to the edit and preview window. Instead of previewing
a picture, it previews the length of the media and shows a frame preview of compatible
video files for easy identification. There are also basic controls for playing, pausing, stopping
and regulating playback volume.
Controls
The list of media player functions that OpenDrive currently offers is as follows:
• Play: Click the Play button to begin streaming playback of the audio or video file
you are previewing.
• Pause: Click the Play button to pause playback, and again to resume.
• Stop: Click the Stop button to stop playback and return to the beginning.
• Volume: Click the Volume bar to adjust playback volume. Increasing and
decreasing the size of the blue bar increases and decreases the volume. You can
also click the Speaker icon to the right to automatically increase playback volume
to maximum.
• Mute: Click the Speaker icon to the left of the Volume bar to mute playback. To
unmute, simply click the volume bar anywhere or the right Speaker icon to return
to full volume.
Advanced controls such as fast forward, rewind and tracking are not currently available.
Controls are kept simple to keep the decoding process fast and efficient.
Audio Files
Audio files, such as MP3s, will display an icon showing the file type in the preview window.
Video Files
Video files, such as AVIs and MPEGs, will play in a screen inside of the preview window and
still use the same controls as audio files.
Download
Clicking this link will allow you to download the file to your computer.
Share
Clicking the share link will toggle a small sub-window containing the URL link of the file that
you can copy and share with others. Note: you must have the file’s permissions set to Public
or Hidden to share files in this way.
