THERE IS - THERE ARE

1. There is (forma de singular) și there are (forma de plural) reprezintă

o construcție cu înțelesul de se află, este, se găsește - se află, sunt, se
găsesc. De cele mai multe ori, there is și there are se folosesc la
începutul propozițiilor precedând subiectul:

    There is a bag on the writing-table.

    There are not many mistakes in the dictation.
    Are there many chairs in the room?
    Is there a long ruler on the table?

2. Forma interogativă se obține prin inversarea celor doi termeni: is

there?, are there?

3. Forma negativă se construiește prin adăugarea negației not după verb:

there is not, there are not.

Notă: Expresia there is sau there are nu trebuie confundată cu adverbul

there (acolo).

    There is a man there. (Se află un om acolo.)

    There are not many chairs there. (Nu sunt multe scaune acolo.)
