1. Title
Process Control Technique

2. Purpose
Proper process control technique is used to control the process in order to prevent producing non-conforming
product. Cpk will be use as process control at production for in process and outgoing inspection.

3. Scope
This specification relates the technique used. The application of the technique is authorized by Quality
Assurance/Control Section..

4. Responsibility
It’s the responsibility of the Quality Assurance/Control section and Production Section to adhere to this
specification.

5. Equipment and Materials

Softcopy using Microsoft Office Excel.
Hardcopy print out.

6. Guidelines for implementing Cpk

7.1 General
Almost any process will benefit from Cpk control methods. Require to collect at least equal or than 25 data in
order to calculate the Cpk. Below are general guidelines for implementing Cpk,
1. Determining which process characteristics (which critical dimension) to control;
2. Setting the Cpk >1.33 for in process control and outgoing control;
3. Take action to improve processes as the result of Cpk < 1.33.
7.2 When and where need to implement Cpk
1. A new process is coming on stream, or a new product.
2. The process has been in operation for some time, but certain dimension is in chronically trouble or
unable to hold the specified tolerances
3. It is desirable to reduce acceptance-sampling or remove from Cpk analysis when the process can be
operated in satisfactory control between LSL (lower spec limit) and USL (upper spec limit).
4. There are very tight tolerances or other difficult manufacturing problem.
5. A change in product specification is desired.
6. Process stability and capability must be continually demonstrated.
7. The operator must decide whether or not to adjust the process, or where a set-up must be evaluated.

7.3 Calculating Cpk

1. Define the USL (upper spec limit) & LSL (lower spec limit) where by is obtain from product drawing
dimension specification. USL is maximum specification of the dimension with tolerance and LSL is
minimum specification of the dimension with tolerance.
2. Average data – Average of all the actual data’s of the specific dimension
3. Cpk upper (CpkU) - USL minus the average data divide by 3.0 multiply sigma ((USL-average data /
(3.0 * sigma)).
4. Cpk lower (CpkL) – Average data minus LSL divide by 3.0 multiply sigma ((Average data – LSL / (3.0
* sigma)).
5. If Cpk lower is less than Cpk upper then is equal Cpk;
6. or else Cpk upper equal to Cpk
