CHRISTMAS PEACE

A CHRISTMAS PRAYER CELEBRATION

Commentator: Down the corridor of time has travelled a man whose life
and spirit has changed people’s lives and shaped the course of history as no
other person has ever done. ‘Jesus Christ’ born 2000 years ago.

(The Principal/ HM can put the Christ child in the crib, while the following or
any other carol is sung.)

All: Joy to the world

Reader 1: It was a rugged world. People were sold like lobsters to die for
others’ amusement. Rumors of insurrection buzzed in cities and towns and at
all times while walking along the road one could see the results of mass
executions.

Reader 2: It was a sordid world of poverty contrasted with opulence, of

women degraded, of racial strife and hatreds…

It is our worlds… hundreds of million dollars are spent on armaments each

year. That is about two hundred million dollars each minute. Prizes are
awarded for every possible achievement: we live in a world of competition,
not sharing.

Reader 3: it is our world… the prices f every’ commodity’ are shooting up,
because of international competition, no, because of oppression of the
powerless by the powerful.

Commentator: How are we involved in our world? Do we contribute to war

and quarrels or do we work for peace and understanding? (Pause)

Do we make merciless use of our strength and power or do we share what

we have with those whose lives we touch? (Pause)

Are we isolated as individuals or are we beginning to become human persons

conscious of the larger Family of Humanity? (Pause)

Reader 4: In this world of ours, beautiful and challenging on the one hand
and oppressive and miserable on the other, human kind has always longed
for a Redeemer, a Saviour, a Messiah, a Liberator, for some one who can
lead us out of misery and darkness to a land where the goods of the world

together with and for one another. The
prophet Isaiah voiced humankinds HOPE in a beautiful manner.

Reader 5: then a voice is heard: make a way for your God; clear a path for
him in the desert. All the mountains and hills must be leveled, every valley
must be filled in. then you will see the glory of god. Then he will pour his
spirit forever over us- the wilderness will become an orchard and all the tress
will be in flower. Then all the peoples of the earth will beat their swords into
ploughshares and their lances into sickles to harvest the corn, and no nation
will draw its sword against another and no one will train for battle. Then the
panther will nestle beside the kid, the wolf and lamb will lie down together,
the calf and lion will graze on the same fields and a child can take them to
pasture. The infant will play at the adder’s hole and the child will put its hand
in the snakes nest. And no one will ever gain cause disaster. Just as the sea
floor is covered with water, so will the earth be covered with PEACE.

All: Silent Night

A Teacher: Gospel Reading Luke 2: 1- 14

Reader 1: He came… not as an emperor, but as a lowly person, to taste our

poverty, our sorrow, our anguish, to be one like us…

Reader 2: He grew up... to become a revolutionary… and in reaching out to

people with the truth, He revolutionized by transforming individuals…

Reader 3: The message of his life… As I have loved you so you must love
one another.

Reader 4: Art galleries capture his life in paintings, libraries are lined with
books exploring His thought, hospitals and schools are dedicated to his
memory. He is the focus of controversy, the rallying point of PEACE, the
object of LOVE, the subject of debate a basis for HOPE. He towers above the
giants of history. He is a sunrise of HOPE in the night of darkness. To all he is
a challenge.

those who are in authority and all
those who are victims of humanity’s craze for power, we pray to the

2. Many people suffer because of soaring prices; parents do not know

how to meet the demands of their children who like to receive
Christmas gifts- for all those who suffer because of economic inequality
and all those who work for a more just distribution of the goods of this
earth, we pray to the Lord… R

3. Many people enable us to live, to become more human and to prepare

ourselves to make our contribution to the building of a more human
world, a world in which every one can be his or her true and unique
self- for our parents, the staff of our institution, for our friends and dear
ones, in this peaceful season of Christmas we pray to the Lord… R

4. We are young, many challenges confront us, but the future will be
made by us- that we may not live at the cost of others and that we
may have an eye for those who are lonely and in need, we pray to the
Lord…R

Principal/ HM: Let us pray...

Heavenly father, you are very good to us. You gave us Jesus Christ who
taught us to be truly peaceful and peace filled humans; listen to our
prayers and give us the courage and strength to become more human
and to make out contribution to change our world into a more loving
world, where life is worth living for everyone. AMEN
