Installation
If the handset wll not be used for a long perod of tme, remove the battery to prevent possble leakage. To purchase replacement batteres, vst our webste at www. vtechphones. com or call 1 (800) 595-9511. In Canada, go to www.vtechcanada. com or call 1 (800) 267-7377.

Remove battery compartment cover by pressng on the ndentaton and sldng t downwards (only for 6043 and 6053). Algn the two holes n the plug wth the socket pns accordng to the color-coded label n the battery compartment, then snap the plug nto place. Place the battery nto the compartment. Poston the battery compartment cover and slde t upwards untl t clcks nto place. Put the handset n the telephone base or the charger to charge the new battery for at least 16 hours. The battery may have enough charge for short calls. For best performance, charge t for at least 16 hours. You can keep the battery charged by returnng the handset to the telephone base or charger after each use. When the battery power s fully depleted, a full recharge takes about 16 hours. For further nformaton on batteres, please see the Battery secton on page 38.

Install the telephone base and the charger as shown below. Choose a locaton away from any electronc equpment and applances such as personal computers, computer routers, televson sets, mcrowave ovens, and refrgerators. Avod excessve heat, cold, dust or mosture. 1. Plug the telephone lne cord nto a telephone wall jack. 2. Plug the power adapter nto an electrcal outlet not controlled by a wall swtch. Desk/table bracket installation
The telephone base comes wth the desk/table bracket nstalled and ready for tabletop use. To remove the bracket: 1. Push the bracket away from the telephone base as shown below. Do not remove the bracket by force to avod breakage of the tabs. To nstall the bracket: 1. Algn the tabs of the bracket wth the slots at the bottom of the telephone base as shown n the dagram. 2. Slde the bracket towards the center of the telephone base untl t clcks nto place.

Dial type

If you have touch-tone servce, your telephone s ready to use as soon as the battery s charged. If you have pulse (rotary) servce, the dal type must be changed. To change the dal type, see Dial type on page 12.

If you subscribe to DSL service
If you receve hgh speed nternet through your telephone lne (commonly referred to as DSL), and you are experencng nterference durng telephone conversatons and/or your caller ID features are not functioning properly, install a DSL filter to the telephone line between the telephone base and the telephone wall jack. Contact your DSL provider for a DSL filter.

When enterng the date or tme, f the dgt s sngle, a zero must be entered first (i.e. f the tme s 6:08, you must enter 0608). If you have more than one handset, settng the date and tme on one handset wll apply to all other handsets. The rng melody for the telephone base s set separately from the handset rng melody. See page 29 to set the telephone base melody.

The handset wll not rng when the rnger volume s at the lowest settng. A rnger off con wll be dsplayed. Whle the telephone s rngng, you can temporarly slence the rnger by pressng oFF/CLEar or MUTE/rEMoVE. The next call wll rng normally. A rnger off con wll be dsplayed. The clear vocemal feature only turns off the dsplayed NEw VoICEMaIL message and VoICEMaIL lght on the telephone base. It does not delete your vocemal message(s). Use ths feature when the telephone ndcates there s vocemal when you have none or you have accessed your vocemal from a remote locaton (whle away from home). If there s actually a new vocemal message, your local telephone company wll contnue to send a sgnal whch wll cause the NEw VoICEMaIL message n the handset and the telephone base VoICEMaIL lght to flash.

If you have pulse (rotary) servce, you can change from pulse to touch tone dalng durng a call by pressng * ToNE. Ths s useful f you need to send touch tone sgnals for access to telephone bankng or long dstance servces. Press /FLaSH. Press * ToNE. Buttons pressed after ths send touch tone sgnals. Dal the number. After hangng up, the telephone automatcally returns to pulse dal servce.

If you subscrbe to call watng servce and you are on a call when a new call comes n, you wll hear a beep. The caller ID nformaton wll be dsplayed f you subscrbe to caller ID servce from your local telephone company. Press /FLaSH on the handset to answer the ncomng call and put the current call on hold. Press /FLaSH at anytme to alternate between calls.

Ths feature allows conversaton between handsets. INtercoM NuMBer Press INT on a handset and ts screen dsplays NUMBEr. Use the keypad to select a destnaton handset. The screen of the orgnatng handset dsplays CaLLINg HaNDSET X. The destnaton handset rngs and ts screen dsplays CaLLINg FroM: HaNDSET X. Press /FLaSH, or any dalng keys (0-9, * or #) on the destnaton cAllING handset to answer the call. HANdSet X To end an ntercom call, press oFF/CLEar on the handset or by placng the handset back on the telephone base or charger.
For 6042/6043, press INT to drectly call the other handset. It s not necessary to press any number key.

If the destnaton handset does not answer, press oFF/CLEar on the orgnatng handset to return to the external call. Press and hold FIND HaNDSET to page handsets whle lstenng to messages.

An external call can be forwarded to another handset durng a conversaton. Press INT and put the call on hold on the orgnatng handset. Use the keypad to select the destnaton handset and the screen dsplays CaLLINg HaNDSET X. (For 6052/6053 only) The destnaton handset rngs and ts screen dsplays CaLLINg FroM: HaNDSET X. After the destnaton handset s answered, press MENU/SELECT and then press or to reach CoNFErENCE. Press MENU/SELECT to let the destnaton handset jon the conversaton. Press MENU/SELECT and the screen dsplays END CoNFErENCE and then press MENU/SELECT to return to the ntercom conversaton. Durng the ntercom conversaton, press MENU/SELECT and use or to reach oTHEr CaLL to return to the external call and put the ntercom on hold. Entres are sorted alphabetcally and names begnnng wth numbers are listed first. An alphabetcal search can be done after enterng the drectory. Enter the first letter of the name using the chart on page 18. The first name begnnng wth that letter wll be dsplayed. For example, press 5 (JKL) once to find Jenny, twice to find Kristen, or three times to find Linda. -orYou can search the drectory by pressng or on the handset.

about caller ID information
If you subscbe to caller ID servce from your local telephone company, ths feature dsplays the name and telephone number of the caller before answerng a call (even when you are on another call). The caller ID features of ths product wll work only f you subscrbe to caller ID servce and both you and the caller are n areas offerng caller ID servce, and f both telephone companes use compatble equpment. Contact your local telephone company f: you have both caller ID and call watng, but as separate servces (you may need combned servce), you have only caller ID servce, or only call watng servce, you do not subscrbe to caller ID or call watng servces but wsh to try them. There may be fees for these servces, and they may not be avalable n all areas. Call log
Due to regonal servce dfferences, the caller ID nformaton may not be avalable for every ncomng call. In addton, the callers may ntentonally block ther name and/or telephone number. The tme s automatcally set and updated wth ncomng caller ID nformaton f you subscrbe to ths servce.

The nformaton of the caller wll be dsplayed f you subscrbe to caller ID servce from your local tephone company. The call log can store up to 50 entres. Each entry may consst of a number up to 20 dgts and a name up to 15 characters. If the number conssts of more than 20 dgts, the last 20 dgts wll be dsplayed and stored. If the name conssts of more than 15 characters, the first 15 characters will be displayed and stored. Entres are dsplayed n chronologcal order wth the newest entry first. When the call log s full, the oldest entry wll be deleted to make room for the new ncomng call nformaton. The screen dsplays EMPTy f there s no record n the call log. The screen dsplays NEw f there are new call log entres (mssed and unread calls). Duplcate or anonymous calls (no caller ID nformaton) wll be stored n the call log.

When aNS oN/oFF s turned off, your telephone wll rng 10 tmes before answerng and promptng for the remote access code.

The aNS oN/oFF must be on (the button lght wll be on) n order for the machne to answer calls and record messages. If the button lght s off then calls wll not be answered. To turn on/off the answerng system, press aNS oN/oFF to choose between on and off. Use the volume control button on the telephone base to adjust the volume at anytme durng the setup procedure.

Set number of rings

Ths feature allows you to select the number of tmes the telephone rngs before the answerng system answers. You can choose from two, four, sx, eght rngs or toll saver. When toll saver s actvated, the answerng system answers after two rngs when there are new messages, and after sx rngs when there are no new messages. Press No. oF rINgS when n dle mode and the system announces the current settng. The system announces To change the setting, press number of rings again. Press No. oF rINgS repeatedly untl the desred settng s announced. If you do not press the aNNC button for about two seconds, the setting will be saved and there is a confirmation beep.

Set telephone base date and time

The answerng system announces the day and tme the message was receved before playng each message. Set the date and tme before usng the answerng system so all messages are dated correctly. Settng handset date and tme wll smultaneously update the telephone base date and tme. The system wll announce Please set the handset clock before message playback f you do not set the date and tme before usng ths system.

An outgong announcement s the message callers hear when calls are answered by the answerng system. The telephone s preset wth an announcement that answers calls wth Hello, please leave a message after the tone. You can use ths default announcement, or replace t wth your own.
The annoucement can be up to 90 seconds n length. When your own recorded annoucement s deleted, calls wll be answered wth the preset announcement.

Play the announcement

Press aNNC n dle mode. The system announces Announcement, press play or press announcement again to record a new announcement. Press PLay/SToP and the announcement wll be played.

Messages can only be deleted after they are played. When the answerng machne s recordng an ncomng message or n dle mode, the call screenng volume can be adjusted by pressng VoL+/- on the telephone base.

Suggeston
Make sure the battery s nstalled and charged correctly (page 2). For optmum daly performance, return the cordless handset to the telephone base or charger after use. Make sure the power adapter s securely plugged nto an outlet not controlled by a wall swtch. Make sure the telephone line cord is plugged firmly into the telephone base and the wall jack. Unplug the unts electrcal power. Wat for approxmately 15 seconds, then plug t back n. Allow up to one mnute for the cordless handset and telephone base to synchronze. Charge the battery n the cordless handset for at least 16 hours. Remove and re-nsert the battery. If that stll does not work, t may be necessary to purchase a new battery. Dsconnect the telephone base from the jack and plug n a workng telephone. If ths telephone does not work, the problem s probably n the wrng or the local servce. Call the local telephone company. Place the handset n the telephone base or charger for rechargng. Remove and re-nstall the battery and use t normally untl fully dscharged, then recharge the handset on the telephone base or charger for 16 hours. If the above measures do not correct the problem, the battery may need to be replaced.

Remove the battery from the handset and then re-nstall t n the handset. Put the handset back to the telephone base or charger and charge for 16 hours. If the cordless handset s n the charger or n the telephone base but the CHargE lght s not on, see The CHargE light is off n ths secton. It may be necessary to purchase a new battery. Please see the Battery secton of ths users manual (page 38). The telephone mght be malfunctonng. Please see the warranty secton of ths users manual (page 51) for further nstructon.
