How to bring the Theology of the Body to the World

His notes are available via email which the organisers will send. Website: www.theologyofthebody.com What are the ways in which we can spread TOB? Also, we need to know how to start and run a TOB ministry in the diocese. The presentation will be a combination of this. Getting TOB known Five questions to be asked today on ideas of how to do it. Short answers: 1. Making a gift of self to everyone with whom we come in contact. IE LIVE THE TOB AND LOVE EVERYONE. 2. Individual Catholics: afrm the good and build on it. 3. Individual Catholics: mourn the wounds of person in front of you and enter into the suffering of others. IE SHOW HOW AUTHENTIC HEALING IS POSSIBLE: BE SLOW TO JUDGE AND FAST TO ENTER INTO SOMEONES PAIN. 4. Diocese and Parishes: Make bold commitments to infuse TOB into all aspects of Catholic pastoral ministry. eg Diocese of Vancouver: they have the rst full-time TOB person in the world. 5. Catholic leaders: aggressively pursue infusing the media and arts with the TOB. In overt but more likely subtle ways. The world will be saved through saints and artists, says John Vianney. This is because art very often bypasses our minds and taps into truths.

The following questions are asked of the audience, and answers given. When marketing: 1. What is your product (and its purpose)? Love and life, life and love. Glory of God present in our lives. In-depth appreciation of the human person. The ultimate cure for our current disease. You are your body. The glory of who we are. Path to holiness. To become the person you are meant to be that God created. The instruction book manual weve been looking for. Why my body really is a temple of the holy spirit. We are made in Gods image also as a communion of persons and called to communion. Fruit of the temple. Fullest meaning of our purpose of why we are here and what or mission is. If you have a body TOB is for you. Christopher West For the priest who wonders about meaning of his priesthood... Pintos quotes... Its for teenage girl, for relativist, etc... The best sex and love ever.

2. Who is the target market(s)? Anybody with a body. This is for anyone with at least half a reproductive system. Students Bishops Unemployed Those with sexual pain in past Prisoners Pinto: TOB for all people: For three reasons: we all have a body; we are all fallen and redeemed; God desires we be redeemed. Unrepeatability of the human person. 3. What are the external conditions (cultural/political etc) that need to be considered? World is hurting from error of permissive sex etc Voices that people listen to People interested in improving themselves and their loved ones. Fear of peer pressure Evangelisation of other religious cultures because of incarnation dignity of man ideas that are implicitly understood in other cultures. Facebook social media dynamics World gripped in sin Blindness created Bishops need to be convinced Need to overcome the contraceptive mentality in the Church itself Shamelessness 4. What message will prompt people to respond? (What will your headline be? Look into heart. Remember: Features tell. Benets sell.) Are you worth it? You matter. Sex: whats the best position: Sex: the Catholic position Dont judge the book by he cover Wait until you open the pages How to be happy with your body What are you looking for? Happily in the short and long term. Is this all there is? Have the perfect body. Pinto: unless you strike a chord with your buyer, is this going to work? The extraordinary out of the ordinary can work 5. What resources do you have in place to carry out your mission? Need to look at this more personally. Our situations will be different. We need to think big. We need to prove our successes on a small scale and then get people on a big scale. We need to go on the TV shows even if we take a risk. Always assume that your sales will be half of what you think they will be. Avoid pet projects because I want to do them at the beginning. No time for that. Fuel your efforts with grace and prayer but dont be so heavenly-minded that you are no earthly good. 6. What are the best channels and nal plan (Version 1.0)? (Money is morally neutral in good hands!) Invest in quality looks. Sometimes we think we are required to have our materials look shoddy. This is absolutely false. Should reect the good true and beautiful Need ve minutes on Channel 4 at 6.55pm Work through parish community and friendships Catholic schools are in fact asking for it and unevangelised. No conrmed student who doesnt know TOB Education of Catholic teachers in schools During Mass intro to TOB - homily Applications, iApps 5

Ethos: we have to meet youth where they are. (This is why personalism is uniquely qualied for this age - appeal to human experience) Encouraging good priests and religious onto TV Catholic radio station like Heart Gives Unto Heart (starting soon in UK) Streetpreachers: when pubs are closed and minster to people in trouble. Give out a card. Cafe - Christopher or someone else as presenter, plus others Seminaries Use techniques that others use on us. Engage role models. Improbable role models. Belgium: introduce TOB into new evangelisation Conclusion At times we Catholics are trying to nd balance on being dirty/not dirty. But as Catholics we are called to be before being called to do. We are called to be the Catholic both/and. We must be like the lilies of the eld (not passive) but also like the two shrewd men in the parable of the talents. When you are doing secular, aggressive entrepreneurial Catholicism you are risking your soul at times and you risk that the means will become the end at times. For the people of the world are more shrewd at dealing with the world than are people of the light. Life of JPII and BXVI: they are in the world but not of the world. God has ordered things wherein he works through nature. So if secular marketing principles are good enough for Coca-Cola then it is certainly good for promoting of TOB in Catholic schools.

Questions / Hopes from audience 1. One centre for NaproTechnology in whole of UK. Overworked, underpaid. Help! Pinto: Ask the people in the USA for stuff. 2. How do you know you are ready when you dont know everything? Pinto: Good planning. Prayer. Basic funding. 3. What about to other priests? Pinto: Above all testimonial to other priests. There is nothing like testimonial like bishop to bishop or priest to priest. If you have someone to present to speak to priests get him in. Give it your best shot: priest to priest, brother to brother, it really does work and if can really be afrmative. 4. How do we get the message about? Pinto: Door-knocking is good. 5. What about abortion counselling: resources for non-Catholics? Pinto: These resources do exist.
