Even I was surprised when I totaled this up (and I am a NorthEast native!). $2395 for transport costs alone for phase 1 of this oral history project. In these estimates, I am assuming that I will drive my personal vehicle and make five (5) round trips from Philadelphia to each city/region. Assuming drive time, parking, camera setup and three interviews per trip, 2 trips per week (schedules allowing). * Gift? - I have been advised by a social worker to bring a tray of cookies / fruit basket / gift for other residents of any assisted-living facilities / nursing homes who will not be interviewed. This is to help prevent feelings of being left out / jealousy and to extend a feeling of goodwill regarding the oral history project. I estimate $30 for a standard tray from my supermarket that I will pick up the morning of each travel day.
