Dots and Dashes is an exhibition about patterns and their place within systems. The exhibition title refers to the series of tones that comprise Morse Code - a method of transmitting textual data. The artworks displayed in Dots and Dashes reveal an affinity for repetitive mark making and recurring formal elements. Some of the works faithfully communicate the complexity of patterns found in nature and manmade structures, while others distill this complexity into simple geometric forms. Organic systems, diagrams of consumption, maps, and human history are among the many issues explored through the selected artworks. Dots and Dashes is curated by Christina Vassallo as part of the Myrtle Ave Brooklyn Partnership Curatorin-Residence program.
