Activities and events related to Child Abuse Prevention Awareness to date: 1.

Genesis: for the previous 2 years, a one day Pinwheels of Prevention park activity during April, Child Abuse Prevention Month. Event organized by Nancy Cotterman, Dir. of the BC Sexual Assault Treatment Center with very limited resources. In reassessing the pros and cons of the event and its effectiveness in providing the community with re 2. Fall 2010: Convened /reconstituted Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Committee and expanded to go beyond 1 event in April and to include broader issues: (i.e., drowning prevention, infant mortality, bullying, special needs, etc.) 3. December 2010 Created Broward AWARE! Protecting OUR Children brand/logo/campaign 4. December 2010 Partnered with 211 to create/post Broward AWARE community calendar 5. December 2010 connected with Ounce of Prevention to populate statewide calendar, provide data and purchase Pinwheels for Prevention materials for campaign 6. Engage Mt. Olive s Development Corporation Youth Enterprise System to produce Broward AWARE! campaign totes. One third of proceeds goes to fund youth scholarships 7. Partnered with Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies for funding for 1st batch of Broward AWARE! Totes. The Chrysalis Center provided funding later in the campaign for another shipment. 8. Engaged Broward AWARE! Partners to deliver child protection resource materials and liaise with Volunteer Broward to engage volunteers to fill totes with these materials prior to the campaign launch. 9. Planned and produced January 13 launch of campaign with dignitaries at Ft. Lauderdale s Holiday Park and media presence (Forever Family produced video aired on NBC 6 and on CSC Facebook). Speakers included the DCF Secretary George Sheldon, Ft. Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler, Florida Child Abuse Review Team member Michelle Akins, county commissioner Chip La Marca s aide, BSO, ChildNet President/CEO Emilio

Benitez, CSC President/CEO Cindy Arenberg Seltzer and Roberto Santiago, a victim of sexual abuse as a child and father of a victim of sexual abuse 10. January 13, promoted and participated in Broward Human Trafficking Coalition screening of Playground (an award winning documentary on commercial sexual exploitation of children) 11. Partnered with Ounce of Prevention to rebrand regional 30 sec. TV PSA s in English and Spanish airing on Comcast Broward through April (on CSC Facebook) 12. Partnered with Best 4 Broward Babies to provide creative and produce 30 sec PSA on reducing infant mortality (on CSC Facebook) 13. February 12, Helped Promote No More Tears Bride Walk event 14. March 5th Promoted, supported and helped organize Healthy Families Broward Graduation 15. March 25-27, helped promote, marched in Walk in My Shoes , Lauren Book s campaign against child sexual abuse 16. Produced Safe Sleep PSA, 300/ (aired on select Comcast channels and posted on Facebook) 17. April 8th, promoted, supporting HMHB Call to Action-Report Back to the Community on black infant mortality, African American Research Library Cultural Center. About 100 stakeholders and community members attended. 18. Broward AWARE! Protecting OUR Children: Family Fun and Resource Day at Rev. Sam Delevoe Park. The committee planned, budgeted, provided branded giveaways and raffle prizes, provided media exposure, solicited sponsors, secured entertainment, created mini-workshop series event visitors had to attend to qualify for raffle drawings. Event drew a diverse crowd of over 700. It provided opportunities to create new and enhance existing corporate partnerships with companies such as Chick Fil A, Domino s Pizza, PepsiCo, who provided free or low cost food and refreshments, Clear Channel radio which provided valuable in-kind resources and BankAtlantic which helped promote the event and give the campaign wider exposure in the corporate community. It allowed for partnerships with local community groups, such as Mt. Olive Baptist Church, and Mt. Hermon AME, which adopted this event as its own resource fair and opportunity for volunteerism. Allowed for enhanced collaborative efforts with the African American Research Library and Cultural Center, as they sought to increase community awareness in the services they provide. 19. Connected ChildNet with 211 for foster parent training on available community resources
