MT10T1 Concept of Technology (2 SKS)


The history of science, technology and art, shows that its development since the existence of human being, has been based on humans creativity to fulfill lifes need. That development is grown by advanced humans capabilities about model, system, feed-back, stability, decision making, and optimization, which continue to improve,. Applications in science, technology, art, and industrial development strategy, have very close connection with invention and innovation that relates to humans need. Knowledge and implementation about intellectual rights are part of this lecture.

MT1101 Introduction to Materials Engineering (3 SKS)


The scope of Materials Engineering profession; Materials design and manufacturing/ modification of materials properties; Thinking Pattern; Logical correlation between materials structures and properties; Materials engineering scope: materials classification (metals and its alloys, ceramic, polymer and composite), identification, standard; Examples of materials manufacturing process line to usage; Materials properties: mechanical properties, physical and chemical properties; Testing and its interpretation; Examples of properties and its modifications; Case study (process line) : PVC pipe, plumbing pipe; Assignment to read books and journals about materials applications, material manufacturing processes and standards.

MT1201 Metal and Its Alloys (3 SKS)


Metal position as material and its tendency in the future, atomic structure and chemical bonding, crystal structure and geometry, diffraction, crystal defect and the basics of dislocation, mechanical properties and methods of evaluation, basics of improving metals properties. Alloying: solid solution and compound, phase diagram, solidification and phase transformation mechanism, microstructure and metallography, Fe and C phase diagrams, carbon steel and cast iron, basics of heat treatments, alloy steel: stainless steel, tool steel, copper and its alloys, light metals, low melting point metals, heat resistant metals, corrosion and degradation also metals standard AISI, ASTM, DIN, JIS, and SNI.

MT20L1 Materials Engineering Laboratory -1 (1 cr)


Mechanical properties of materials are introduced in this lab work. Methods of measuring mechanical properties is demonstrated and done by lab work participants themselves. Beside measuring technique and measuring data analysis, materials science phenomena that observed during measuring materials properties will be the main topic for discussion with lab work assistant. Mechanical properties measuring include : 1. Quasi-static load: tensile test, torsion test & flexural/bending test 2. Dynamic load: rotary bending fatigue test 3. Impact load: Charpy V-Notch (CVN) Impact Test These three loading type will be done by lab work participants after next two modules are done first. 4. Stress & strain, measuring concept with strain-gage

5. Material Hardness Measuring Technique: Data presentation, Uncertainty & Failure Analysis.

MT20L2 Materials Engineering Laboratory -2 (1 cr)


Macro and micro structure analysis; Heat treatment, wire drawing/rolling; welding, casting; insitu metallography & hardness; Forging; Sintering; Blending; Injection Moulding.

MT2101 Electronic and Magnetic Materials (3 SKS)


Materials structure; Solid electronic materials structure; thermal, electric, dielectric, magnetic and optical properties of solid material; semiconductor and electronic device.

MT2102 Metal and Its Alloys Manufacturing Process (3 SKS)


Line of process from minerals to metals (steel, Al, Cu) until it becomes half done product or component; metals shape production and properties; Refining processes: on steel (blast furnace, basic oxygen furnace compare to direct reduction and electric arc furnace), on aluminum : bauxite becomes alumina and becomes aluminum (hot electrolysis toward alumina), on copper : pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy; Cast product and wrought product; continuous casting compare to ingot casting; solidification phenomena: coring, surrounding, segregation and dendrite structure; Homogenization/diffusion process; Hot rolling process (above recrystallization temperature) and Thermomechanical Treatment and its technology; Pipe and tube manufacturing knowledge; cold rolling process (under recrystallization temperature), mechanical properties changes; annealing process; casting process: cast-product manufacturing process, sand casting, permanent mold casting, investment/precision casting, etc., mold materials technology, casting defects, product knowledge and its casting process ; welding process : gas welding, EAW, GTAW, SMAW, etc., welding defects ; machining process : chisel geometry, types of machining process (milling, turning, grinding, etc.); heat treatment and surface treatment processes; joining and assembling processes. MT2201 Ceramic Material (3 SKS) Description of the conventional and the advanced ceramics. Ceramic material structure and its relation with chemical, biological, mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical, magnetic and nuclear properties. Manufacturing process and example of tile ceramic product. Ternary phase diagram application, electronic and ionic mobility, and nonstoichiometry on ceramic. Discussion of main properties application of advanced ceramics.

MT2202 Thermodynamics of Materials (3 SKS)


Review of First and Second Law of Thermodynamics and its relevancy. Variation of thermodynamics functions with temperature, pressure and volume and also thermoelastic and magnetic effect. Thermodynamics analysis of opened (steady/unsteady state) and closed system. Thermodynamics equilibrium and chemical equilibrium and also usage of Clayperon equation to make phase diagram. Solution thermodynamics including Gibbs-

Duhem equation to determine component activity, binary solution and introduction to thermodynamics of polymer solution. Electrolytic reaction, thermodynamics and construction of pH-potential diagram. Usage and construction of Elingham diagram. Low viscosity solution thermodynamics, alternative standard condition, determining component activity of binary phase diagram, and introduction to ternary phase diagram. The use of thermodynamics units with electrochemical cell.

MT2203 Material Characterization (3 SKS)


Material characterization history; qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis; instrumental analysis, including: spectroscopy ways which include UV/VIS spectroscopy, Infrared spectroscopy, atomic emission spectroscopy, atomic absorption spectroscopy, and thermal ways (TGA, DTA, DSC, TMA).

MT2204 Numerical Analysis (3 SKS)


Numerical analysis offers fundamentals of modeling, computer and error analysis: mathematical model and solving engineering problem, computer and software, approach and error. Equation roots: bracketing method, open method and case studies. Simultaneous linear equation: Gaussian elimination matrix inversion, Gauss Seidel, case studies. Curve fitting: least square regression, interpolation, case study. Differentiation and integration. Differential equation.

MT30L1 Materials Engineering Laboratory -3 (1 cr)


Sieve test, Thermal Analysis (TGA, DTA, DSC, TMA), Micro analysis (SEM, EDS), Spectroscopy (IR, UV/VIS), Porous size, Density measurement, optical and electron metallography, micro-hardness, X-ray diffraction, Composites computer exercise.

MT30P2 Material Engineering Assignment (2 SKS)


Students are given assignment to identify a component and estimate the material, manufacturing process also the alternatives. This assignment involving literature study, material characterization process at laboratory, report making from the case and presentation. The report and presentation are in English.

MT3101 Polymers (3 SKS)


Introduction: polymer economical value, nomenclature, classification; physical properties of polymers: the average relative molecule mass concept and determination technique including final structure analysis, colligative properties measurement, light scattering and gel permeation chromatography; polycondensation (Step Growth polymerization): mechanism, kinetics, molecule weight distribution; copolymerization: mechanism, composition, kinetics; polymer thermal analysis: glass transition, melting point, curing reaction, DSC, TGA, DMTA; polymer morphology: polymer chain configuration, crystal

structure; rheology: Viscoelasticity concept; polymer blending: thermodynamic of polymer blending, compatibility, polymer technology: introduction of polymer processing techniques; Extrusion: principle and design concept; Injection molding: principle and design concept; blow molding: principle and design concept.

MT3102 Ceramic Processing Technology (3 SKS)


Ceramic processing involves some high technology which are still being developed today. Selection of the right technology is influenced by the kind and the quality of the products, raw materials and the type of processes used. Ceramic processing technology is divided into 2 branches, conventional and non conventional. Conventional branch is divided into 3 processing groups which is based on consistency of material to be formed, which are slip casting, plastic forming and powder pressing. Each of them has several different processes which depend on the final products. Besides that, there are also ceramic processing methods through chemical process like sol-gel and gas-solid reaction. Drying and sintering processes are done to green products or green body to reach certain mechanical properties. To fulfill dimensional requirement designed before, some products need correction by machining process. This machining process can be done before or after sintering process.

MT3103 Materiallography and Diffraction (2 SKS)


General introduction about microstructure and macrostructure, techniques and function of microstructure and macrostructure, principle of optical microscope and electron microscope, microhardness measurement, and application examples. Introduction to X-Ray, crystal geometry, interaction between X-Ray and crystal which produces diffraction, and many of X-ray diffraction applications.

MT3014 Transport Phenomena (3 SKS)


The transport of momentum, heat, and mass. Fundamental laws of transport phenomena, formulation of cell balance equation with geometrical factor, and their mathematical solution. Properties of transport: steady/unsteady system, system with generation, and mixed transport. Few examples of application in process.

MT3201 Composite Materials (3 SKS)


Introduction: the history of materials, classification of composite materials, advantages and disadvantages of composite materials, applications of composite materials; properties of reinforced component and properties of the interface with its matrix; metal matrix composites, ceramic matrix composites, polymer matrix composites; micromechanics; macromechanics; characterization and quality control; properties of composite materials in various applications.

MT3202 Polymer Processing Technology (3 SKS)


Polymer processing: plastic technology, fiber technology, elastomer technology. Flow properties. Processing devices: polymerization reactor, extrusion, calendaring and milling, molding, mixing.

MT3203 Phase Transformation (3 SKS)


A short review about free energy curve, and the theory about thermodynamic of solution. Interstitial diffusion theory, substitution diffusion, application in homogenization process, carburizing/decarburizing, and welding. The type of interface in alloy, interface properties, interfacial and grain theory. Homogeneous and heterogeneous solidification theory, and effect of heat transfer towards materials structure. Phase transformation by diffusion and by non diffusion, its kind, theory of nucleation and its growth.

MT40K1 Job Training (1 cr)


Students activity in the form of job training will give them a practical experience in the industry. Job training activity can be in the form of work environment introduction along with case studies, analysis as well as synthesis, which is relevant with host industry and also material engineering expertise area. The result of the activity is written in a paper and it will be presented.

MT40S2 Materials Technology Seminar (2 SKS)


Seminars containing topics that relate to several things as follows: 1. Research development in the field of materials technology. 2. Materials technology application in the industry and community. 3. Work perspectives 4. Professional work ethics 5. Preparation to enter the world of work 6. Politic, economy, social and cultural knowledge that can influence the world of work. 7. Latest issues that influence the work.

MT40Z3 Final Project (3 SKS)


Final project is the final assignment of S-1 education program (capstone course) where the students have the opportunity to integrate and using various knowledge and skills that have been obtained previously from various academic activities in the form of design project, tools making or experimental design, research project or theoretical study on a problem. At the final stage, the students will present the result in written report (paper), seminar and oral examination.

MT4101 Statistical & Experimental Design (3 SKS)


Basic concept; comparation of two treatments: external reference distribution, normal distribution, t-distribution, randomization, blocking, significance test, confidence interval; Comparation of more than two treatments: anova, diagnostic checking, randomized blocks, Latin square, graeco-latin square, hyper-graeco-latin square, and balance incomplete block design; Measuring effect from variables: empirical model, factorial design, fractional factorial design, and experimental design project.

MT4102 Modeling & Design of Materials (3 SKS)


Modeling discussed in this lecture is a combination of re-understanding -controllingdesigning of structural and functional properties of materials. Analytical, numerical and phenomenological method used to model materials behavior during process. Several materials processing involving mass and thermal transport chosen as modeling study case: casting, welding, heat treatment, and forming. As the basic to the material design, microstructure evolution modeling of materials is also done which is related to materials properties. Material design part in this lecture proceeds with discussion about material design method, formulation/identification of material properties, deciding the parameters of material structure and composition, formulating criteria, optimizing and controlling parameter during process. The type of case studies presented in this lecture include modeling, process and microstructural design for high strength material (static and dynamic), and materials for application in extreme condition (corrosive, high and low temperature).

MT4111 Plasticity & Deformation Process (3 SKS)


Half of this course studies the continuum plasticity that begins with the plastic stressstrain relation formula for the crystalline material that is isotropic and anisotropic. The continuation of the study above is stress and strain analysis with classic technique (ideal work, slab analysis, upper-bound & slip-line field analysis). The other half of this course studies the metal characteristics/resistance to various plastic deformation modes. Those metal characteristics are then used as the basis in determining the formability parameter for various deformation processes in metal forming technology which is bulk & sheet metal forming. The main study at the end of this course will be filled with the introduction to plastic stress and strain analysis using finite element method in the form of software package.

MT4201 Materials & Manufacturing Processes Selection (2 SKS)

Material properties for the structure and component design, general evaluation on kinds of manufacturing processes along with the technological properties that is needed, material selection and performance on design, design, material selection and failure. Ferrous material selection, the application of materials standards, product and manufacturing standards, case studies.

MT4211 Melting & Solidification Process (3 SKS)


The main idea of this course is a detailed study on how materials (metals) solidification processes having an effect on material structure and properties. Thereby solidification processes is studied as an introduction by assuming it as presolidification phenomena. The part of solidification processes and phenomena in this lecture containing: Physical Chemistry, liquid metal thermodynamics, chemical and gas composition control in liquid metal, and inclusion forming. Solidification processing includes Heat Transfer, Mass Flow, phase nucleation-growth with chemical composition redistribution during solidification process, solidification front-modus and its effect on Solid Metal Morphology and structure. Processes in advanced solidification engineering (directional & monocrystal solidification) are also studied and compared with conventional solidification. At the end of this course, all above topics will be summarized in one chapter with introduction topic about modeling of solidification & Microstructural Evolution.

MT4212 Corrosion Prevention Techniques (3 SKS)


Understanding of corrosion phenomena as an electro-chemistry process; anodic reaction, cathodic reaction; polarization curve; corrosion types and mechanism: surface corrosion; pitting corrosion; intergranular corrosion; crevice corrosion; stress induced corrosion; selective leaching; galvanic corrosion; erosion corrosion; corrosion monitoring process; corrosion cases; corrosion prevention methods; e.g. cathodic protection, impressed current, cathodic protection.

MT5111 Iron and Steel Making (3 SKS)


Phenomena and technology of steel making starting from iron ore: the current conditions of the steel industries, the reduction of iron ores from thermodynamical aspect, blast furnace, direct reduction. From iron to steel: case study in electric arc and basic oxygen furnace. The solidification process of steel in ingot method and continuous casting. Metallurgical phenomena and processing technology of solid steel: hot rolling, cold rolling, and annealing process as TMCP (Thermomechanical Controlled Process) for changing the shape and improving steel quality. The current development in steel, i.e. AHSS (Advanced High Strength Steel)

MT5112 Electrochemistry of Materials (+ Lab) (3 SKS)

The kinetics of electrolytic process; passivation; the relation of polarization curve and potential, pH; the measurement technique of polarization curves. Electrolyte conductivity and the prediction of ion activity coefficient for dilute solution. The difference between electrochemical cell and electrolysis cell. The usage of polarization curves and potential-pH diagram. Electrolysis process in industry: copper purification, zinc production, aluminum production and the discussions of current efficiency, electricity needs, mass and energy balance. The description about pulse current and periodic current reversal in metal electroplating. Electroforming, electro-etching, and electro-machining. The Introduction to solid electrolyte conductivity for explaining the current changing in semiconductor. Mass balance in electrolytic processing and examples.

MT5121 Conventional Ceramics (3 SKS)


Introduction. Interaction between clay, water and fire for producing hard product due to the phase transformation from clay to mullite phase. The use of clay, feldspar, and quartz as the base material for ceramics. The application of conventional ceramics based on clay for eating utensils, housewares, such as wash basin, toilet, bricks.

MT5122 Carbon & Graphite Materials (3 SKS)


Carbon fiber, gas phase impregnation, thermoset and thermoplastic resin as matrix, oxidation and its prevention, the making and the characterization of C/C composite in laboratory scale, the properties of carbon composite materials, the application of C/C composite, the summary of the current technology and market analysis.

MT5123 Refractory Materials (3 SKS)


Refractory material for industrial application. Refractory materials are available from metal and ceramic for steel melting industry that operate in the temperature til 1700C, and for this purpose the ladle that made from steel (Tm 1535C) must be coated by refractory material that can withstand this condition. Ceramic refractory material Magnesia, Alumina, Silica, Magnesite, Dolomite, Chrome-Magnesite, Alumino-Silicates, binary system, ternary, quartenary etc. Refractory material will degrade over time, or experience failure that needed replacement of a new one. Characterization and identification are done based on ASTM testing standard for ceramic material.

MT5124 Cement & Concrete Materials (3 SKS)

The physical, mechanical and chemical properties of concrete with its material compositions. Correlation between concrete and its resulting properties, admixtures, high performance concrete, the rehabilitation of concrete structure.

MT5131 Natural Polymers (3 SKS)


Natural rubber, polysaccharide, gluten, biopolymer resulting from biotechnology, other biomaterial topics such as wood, bones, etc.

MT5132 Manufacturing of Polymer Composites (3 SKS)


Introduction; various applications of Polymer composites; physical and mechanical properties; micromechanics; manufacturing processes: performs, dies, techniques for thermoset and thermoplastic composites; secondary manufacturing processing: machining, bonding, fixing; characterization and quality control: NDT and destructive testing, mechanical testing; recycle problems, health and safety in manufacturing process of composite materials.

MT5141 Non-Destructive Test (3 SKS)


The role of NDT in quality control; the application of NDT techniques; Various forms of defects that cannot be detected by NDT. Visual inspection, magnetic particle inspection, liquid penetrant, eddy current, ultrasonic testing, radiography, neutrography, indentation method, leak detection, acoustic emission, thermal inspection method, holographic interferometry, crack depth measurement methods, thickness measurement methods, vibration analysis, method for materials identification, microwave radiation. Analysis and interpretation. Safety and inspection standards.

MT5142 Fracture Mechanics (3 SKS)


Introduction to fracture mechanics: historical background, fracture mechanics application, Griffith criteria, stress intensity factor and its calculation. KIC value determination. Fracture mechanics application in design. Initiation and sub-critical crack: fatigue, stress-corrosion, corrosion-fatigue. Crack criteria. Microscopic aspect from fracture toughness. The application of fracture mechanics in failure analysis.

MT5211 Powder Metallurgy (3 SKS)


Introduction: the reason and prospect of manufacturing product by using powder metallurgy technology; fabrication of metal powder; characterization and parameter of metal powder. Control of metal powder microstructure. Powder preparation before compaction process. The kinds and parameter of compaction processes. Apparatus for compaction process. Kinds and parameter of sintering process. Apparatus for sintering process. Final process for powder metallurgy product. Characterization, properties and applications of the products. Industry standard in powder metallurgy technology.

MT5221 Advanced Ceramics (3 SKS)


Description and application of advance ceramics. Ceramics material structures and its relation with chemical, biology, mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical, magnetic, and nuclear properties. Manufacturing processes and example of advance ceramic product. Electronic and ionic mobility concept, non-stoichiometry in ceramics, and prediction of ceramic function. Study of several advance ceramic development.

MT5222 Colloid Phenomena in Ceramics (3 SKS)


Surface and colloid as grayscale zone, general concept of surface and interface, surface activity molecule bases, far range attractive force, electrostatic force and multi-layer electricity, capillarity, solid surface, liquid-fluid interface, adsorption at solid-liquid interface, colloid and its stability, emulsion, foam, aerosol, polymer at interface, colloid association : micelle, vesikel, and membrane. Solubility, micellar catalyst, and micro emulsion, wetting and distribution, friction, lubrication and abrasive, attachment.

MT5223 Ceramic Raw Materials (3 SKS)


The behavior of several minerals with certain compositions for getting the expected properties. A short description about mineralogy (minerals for clay and stone formation), the types and the distributions of the ores (liberation and separation), slip preparation (size reduction, filtering, composition, ceramic body formation), ceramics firing, the various kinds of ceramics characterizations, phase transformation after ceramics firing.

MT5224 Ceramics Plant Design (3 SKS)


Introduction to ceramic industry in Indonesia covering clay-based ceramics and non-claybased ceramic industries also introduction to the equipment and technology used which come from overseas. At the beginning, the activity that can be done is maintenance of equipment and then the next step is designing the equipment or modifying ceramic processing machines for maintenance purpose or the making of ceramic plant. Understanding of raw material, the processes used must be mastered. The design activity

includes the gathering of data and product information that will be manufactured, raw material selection, process design, machine selection and design by considering related aspect.

MT5231 Fiber Technology (3 SKS)


Introduction: fiber classification and terms that is used; fiber manufacture technology; fiber structure and properties, including natural fiber, polyamid fiber, polyester fiber, polyethylene fiber, aramid fiber, glass fiber, carbon fiber (from PAN and pitch), boron fiber, silicon carbide fiber (manufactured by using CVD and pyrolisis technique) and alumina fiber; application of fiber in daily life; textile manufacturing technology and its development as composite raw material.

MT5232 Plastic Injection Molding (3 SKS)


Basic components of injection molding machines. Parameters in injection molding process. Polymer raw material influence: amorphous and crystalline. Testing and failure analysis. Troubleshooting in manufacturing process.

MT5241 Failure Analysis (3 SKS)


Failure analysis objectives, Failure modes review and summary, yield criteria/plastic deformation initiation, stress concentration, static fracture, fracture mechanics review and summary, fatigue fracture, Creep, embrittlement, corrosion, characterization technique, failure analysis methods. Making reports.

MT5242 Heat & Surface Treatment (3 SKS)


Steel heat treatment basics, heat treatment processes, surface treatment and quality control methods; alloying effects; defects on heat treatment; the role of surface treatment on increasing a component strength and lifetime. Various surface treatments and its process parameter: Mechanical Treatment, Thermal Treatment, Thermal-Spraying, CVD, PVD, Electro-plating, Laser Surface Treatment, ion-implantation etc. The advantages and disadvantages of each procesess. The effect of various surface treatments to the surfaces properties. Surface treatment applications in the industry.

MT5243 Magnetic Materials Engineering (3 SKS)


Magnet field, flux density and magnetization; magnetic material and its calculation; magnetic material properties; domain, domain wall and processes, magnetization and hysterisis curve, magnetic order type, magnetic phase and critical phenomena; magnetic moment electronic; magnetic material, engineering and application: soft magnet and electromagnet, hard magnet, magnetic storage technology, material evaluation using magnetic technique.

MT5244 Biomaterials (3 SKS)


The application of materials such as metals, ceramics, polymer, hydrogel and natural material for medical purposes; kinematics joint; biomechanics orthopedic, membrane, artificial organ etc.

MT5245 Capita Selecta in Materials Engineering2 (3 SKS)

MT6001 Advanced Materials Characterization (3 SKS)


Introduction: background, the role of material characterization. Materials properties testing. Analysis using several method: Metallography techniques, optical and x-ray spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy, classic chemical method, resonance method, diffraction method, electron or x-ray spectroscopy, method that based on sputtering phenomena or scattering, chromatography, and other advance method.

MT6021 Sintering Theory (2 SKS)


Sintering processes and its influence on oxide stoichiometry in various ceramic functions. Solid state, liquid-phase, and reactive sintering. Sintering phase and mass transfer when the sintering occurs. Crystal structure and non-stoichiometry of oxide ceramics, defect structure, description and equation of chemical reaction of ionic/electronic defect, electroneutrality and also defect equilibrium. Defect predominance diagram and application in advanced-ceramics.

MT6022 Industrial Applications of Ceramics Materials (3 SKS)


Example of ceramic engineering application in various: metal melting industry, petrochemical, oil and gas, construction, glass, ceramics, medical, machining, automotive, energy, electricity, etc. The application in industry based on the superior properties in a specific operation condition compare to metal that have been widely used till now. With the advance of processing technology and characterization method, ceramic properties can be predicted and improved. Kinds of raw material, composition and ceramic processing will determine the microstructure of ceramic product which eventually affects the properties. Specific case study in several applications in industry with its advantage and limitation of certain ceramic material will give clearer understanding in the right material selection.

MT6041 Phase & Structure Identification of Materials(3 SKS)


General introduction about microstructure and macrostructure and its application. Introduction about techniques, application and analysis of microstructure and microstructure. The principles of optical microscope and electron microscope, microhardness, application examples. Basic introduction about X-ray, crystal geometry, interaction between X-ray and crystal which produce diffraction, various application of X-ray: texture, phase identification, residual stress, etc.

MT6111 Metallurgy of Plastic Deformation (3 SKS)


Main focus of this course is to explain metallurgical phenomena that involves plastic deformation. This explanation starts with the condition and the criteria of plastic deformation. The dislocation existence, morphology & movement will be studied and correlated with the phenomena that happen because of plastic deformation, mainly strain hardening. The material strengthening mechanism: dislocation density, solid solution, precipitation & grain boundary, will be studied one by one and correlated with the interaction between strengthening factor with dislocation movement and the force that is needed to move the dislocation. The course is ended with the study of advance mechanism that is connected with plastic deformation: TRIP (TRansformation Induced Plasticity) & TWIP (TWinning Induced Plasticity) Phenomena.

MT6201 Selection & Design of Materials (3 SKS)


The change in Materials Selection from adhoc fashion to optimal material choice. Optimal material choice elaboration from methodology to the case studies that emphasizes no longer in the physics of materials but rather in the creation of data and information based knowledge that contain in the materials. New material design to fulfill the requirement of optimal material choice. Material design methodology and case studies that contain required material properties (performance) formulation, determining material composition & structure parameter, criteria & optimization formulation, and the control of those parameter. Microstructural case studies for high strength material (static & dynamic), materials application in the extreme environment (corrosion, low and high temperature).

Introduction, Welding principles and definitions, Types of welding process: Oxyacetylene, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW, ERW, EBW, etc. Working principal of welding machines, Understanding on effect of parameters of welding process of welded product: PWHT, Metallurgy of carbon steel welding: division of welded area, dilution phenomena, isothermal curve, thermal cycle, phase transformation in HAZ, micro structure at welded area, welded procedure and experiment and welded test: WPS, WPQR, defect, inspection of weld joint: destructive and non destructive test, controlling of welded quality, welding of rust resistance steel, super alloy welding, welding of aluminum and its alloy, welding of titanium and its alloy, welding of super alloy, iron base, nickel base, and cobalt base super alloys, measuring of welding area strength, practical standard at welding world.

MT7211 Corrosion & Its Prevention Method (3 SKS)

MT70Z1 Thesis (6 SKS) Research based on literature study about an aspect of materials technology. Seminar related to this research will be conducted after the research has been done.
