SSN COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering, (SSNCE) is t h e outcome of t h e vision and initiative of Padma Bhushan Dr. Shiv Nadar, Chairman of HCL Technologies Ltd. and a pioneer in the field of Information Technology. The Institution reflects the ideals of its founder and seeks to achieve excellence as an academic institution and advanced research centre. The Management Committee members Mrs. Kala Vijayakumar, President-SSN Institutions, Mr. P. Sivaprasad, Chairman-Governing Council, Mr. N. Ranjit, Chairman-Strategic planning and policies and Principal Dr. S. Salivahanan facilitate the good governance of the college. The Institution was established in 1996 on a sprawling campus of 250 acres on the Rajiv Gandhi Road (OMR) known as Cyber Corridor of Chennai. The campus comprises aesthetically designed buildings that are networked by fiber optic cables. The institution offers seven B.E. / B.Tech. degree programmes in EEE, ECE, CSE, IT, Chemical Engg., Biomedical Engg. and Mechanical Engg. It also offers five M.E. degree programmes in Power Electronics & Drives, Communication Systems, Computer Science & Engineering, Applied Electronics, Computer & Communication, in addition to MBA and MCA. The admission is done purely on the basis of merit. The Institution is certified with ISO 9001:2000 and the undergraduate and post graduate programmes have been accredited by NBA. Recently our college was awarded the highest grade A by the National Assessment and Accreditation council. The college has consistently stood top among colleges affiliated to Anna University. The management awards over 400 scholarships worth Rs 4.3 crores every year to meritorious and deserving students.

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING The Department offers B.Tech. D e g r e e program in Chemical Engineering. The Department is wellequipped with the state-of-the art laboratories and softwares like ChemCAD and MATLAB. The department has one Professor, three Associate Professors and two faculties are at the verge of completion of Ph.D. The Department has organized National Symposium CHEMICZNA every year in the month of August and also organized workshop on ChemCAD, Nanotechnology and Energy. The department is concentrating research on Nano technology, Bio-Fuels, Environmental Engineering and other novel fields. ABOUT NANOTECHNOLOGY Nanotechnology is a branch of technology dealing with the production of materials with dimensions of less than 100 nanometers and the manipulation of individual molecules and atoms. The term nanotechnology embraces many different fields and specialties, including physics, chemistry, biology, electronics and medicine. All are concerned with bringing existing technologies down to a very small scale measured in nanometers. All conventional materials like metals, semiconductors, glass, ceramic or polymers can in principle be obtained with nanoscale dimensions. Nanoparticles are of great scientific interest as they are effectively a bridge between bulk materials and atomic or molecular structures. The interesting and sometimes unexpected properties of nanoparticles are therefore largely due to the large surface area of the material, which dominates the contributions made by the small bulk of the material. Nanoparticles are used to

describe the divided metallic state. Nanoparticles have many useful applications in the commercial, industrial and technological sectors of this world. They are used for every purpose these days. They have applications in the field including, chemistry, biological sciences, garments, wear and tear, electronics, computer and fiction sciences, mathematics, mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence, fertilization, purification and many more. The advances in this area will result in newer technologies: Nanoscience and Nanotechnology market in 2015 is predicted to be worth 350 billion dollars. That consequently called for new investments in human resource development (HRD). These people must have strong foundation in Nanoscience and technology with a fair background in chemistry, physics, mathematics and biology, as well as in Chemical, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. While the basic science and engineering degree are absolutely essential, training in nano related area with the desired to constantly update their knowledge will be necessary to launch them into demands of the world. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP Experts from IITM, Anna University of TechnologyChennai and other reputed universities will share the practical experience mainly to explore the research opportunities in the Nanoscience and Technology. This workshop will provide opportunities for interaction with experts for the research scholar, post graduate students and faculties to carry out the research work and projects, to choose and define the problem

clearly, to adopt the methodologies to solve many applications.
