The SPEED of Trust: The One Thing That Changes Everything, Stephen M.R. Covey
Extend Trust
Demonstrate a propensity to trust. Extend trust abundantly to those who have earned it. Extend trust conditionally to those who are earning your trust. Tell the truth. Let people know where you stand. Call things what they are. Dont spin the truth. Take issues head on. Address the tough stuff directly. Acknowledge the unsaid. Lead out courageously in conversation. Dont skirt the real issues. Tell the truth in a way people can verify. Get real and genuine. Err on the side of disclosure. Make things right. Apologize quickly. Demonstrate personal humility. Dont let pride get in the way. Listen before you speak. Understand. Diagnose. Listen with your ears...and your eyes and heart. Give credit to others. Speak about people as if they were present. Dont disclose private information. Establish a track record of results. Get the right things done. Make things happen. Accomplish what youre hired to do.

Say what youre going to do. Then do what you say youre going to do.
Hold yourself accountable. Hold others accountable. Take responsibility for results. Disclose and reveal expectations. Discuss and validate them. Dont assume expectations are clear. Genuinely care for others. Respect the dignity of every person and every role. Show kindness Continuously improve. Increase your capabilities. Be a constant learner. Develop feedback systemsboth formal and informal.
Think Win/Win
Be Proactive
Change starts from within, and highly effective people make the decision to improve their lives through the things that they can influence rather than by simply reacting to external forces. Spend time doing what fits into your personal mission, observing the proper balance between production and building production capacity. Identify the key roles that you take on in life, and make time for each of them.
Synergize
Through trustful communication, find ways to leverage individual differences to create a whole that is greater than the sum of the parts. Through mutual trust and understanding, one often can solve conflicts and find a better solution than would have been obtained through either person's own solution.
Take time out from production to build production capacity through personal renewal of the physical, mental, social/emotional, and spiritual dimensions. Maintain a balance among these dimensions.
train for how youll react at that pivotal moment The one thing you can control 100% Don't fall into the trap of depending on others opinion of you Overcome your biggest pitfalls Take action = first step is to choose set the right kind of goals that will stretch and move you beyond Goals not fueled by passion = empty set of words on a piece of paper Focus your mind on the opportunity in front of you preparation is the key to success Self-improvement is not about comparing yourself to others

Good to great : Why some companies make the leap -- and others dont, Jim Collins
securing high-quality, high-talent individuals Level 5 leaders display an unusual mix of intense determination and profound humility personal ego and individual financial gain are not as important as the long-term benefit of the team and the company an unrelenting inner sense of determination
A Culture of Discipline
every team member is afforded personal empowerment and latitude reinforce and affirm the companys "hedgehog" competencies
determine what you are deeply passionate about doing one thing better than anyone else in the world
"Nothing is a greater impediment to being on good terms with others than being ill at ease with yourself. Honor de Balzac, The Human Comedy "Let no pleasure tempt thee, no profit allure thee, no persuasion move thee, to do anything which thou knowest to be evil; so shalt thou always live jollity; for a good conscience is a continual Christmas. Benjamin Franklin "In looking for people to hire, you look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence, and energy. And if they don't have the first, the other two will kill you." Warren Buffet, CEO, Berkshire Hathaway A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble. Charles H. Spurgeon
Goodness Integrity
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion. Dalai Lama How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these. George Washington Carver "The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of determination." Vince Lombardi "We are what we repeatedly do, excellence then is not an act, but a habit. Aristotle
Persistence
Discipline
"Talent without discipline is like an octopus on roller skates. There's plenty of movement, but you never know if it's going to be forward, backwards, or sideways." H. Jackson Brown, Jr. "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." Abraham Lincoln Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs
Temperance Humility
Prudence Justice
Enhancing our ability to make right decisions Giving every individual his or her due.
Courage
Staying the course and resisting pressures of all kinds Leaders are not born, but trained. Why? Because virtue is a habit acquired through practice. Subordinating passions to the spirit and direct them towards the fulfillment of the mission at hand The habit of striving towards great things. Leaders are magnanimous in their dreams, visions, and sense of mission; and also in their capacity to challenge themselves and those around them. Leadership is a question of character (virtue, freedom, self-improvement), not temperament (biology and genetics).
Self-Control
Magnanimity
Humility
