User's Guide

Introduction
This is a guidebook that explains the basic operations and precautions for using the Fiery Remote Scan, the print controller's utility tool. Please have a read through it.

Install Fiery Remote Scan


Before using the Fiery Remote Scan, install the program on your PC.

Click [Accept].
The Select Components window appears.

To install the Fiery Remote Scan, the User Software CD of the print controller is necessary.

Turn on the PC to start up the OS. Load the User Software CD onto the CD-ROM drive. Open [Fiery Remote Scan 5] folder on the User Software CD and double-click [Setup.exe].
The Setup wizard appears.

Ensure that [Fiery Remote Scan Application] is checked. Click [Next].


The Choose Destination Location window appears.

Check the directory to save the program and click [Next].


The Select Program Folder window appears.

Click [Next]. Select whether or to immediately reboot the PC or not and click [Finish].

Click [Next].
The License Agreement window appears.

To use the Fiery Remote Scan, the computer must be rebooted after installing the program.

Start / Exit Fiery Remote Scan


Start Fiery Remote Scan
To start up the Fiery Remote Scan, perform the following.

Exit Fiery Remote Scan


To exit the Fiery Remote Scan, perform the following.

To exit from the device setup window:

From the task bar on your PC, Select [Start], [Program], then [Fiery]. Click [Fiery Remote Scan 5].

On the Fiery Remote Scan device setup window, click [Cancel].

The Fiery Remote Scan will run.


The Fiery Remote Scan exits.
On the first-time starts up, the following window appears.

To exit from the basic window:

On the Fiery Remote Scan basic window, click [Close].

The print controller must be registered on this window before starting to use the Fiery Remote Scan.

The following are the main features of the Fiery Remote Scan.

Fiery Hold QUEUE


Jobs stored in the print controller's mail box are stored as print queue.

The jobs stored as print queue can be operated using the Command WorkStation, the utility tool. For example, you can print the jobs, queue the jobs and so on. For how to use the Command WorkStation, see the User's Manual of your print controller.

Save to Disk
Jobs stored in the print controller's mail box are imported into a local PC.

Email
Jobs stored in the print controller's mail box are transmitted as E-Mail attachment files.

FTP
Jobs stored in the print controller's mail box are uploaded onto a FTP server.

Register / Select Device


To use the Fiery Remote Scan, a device, that is, the print controller must be registered. This is the procedure to register a device.

If you want to give a nickname to the print controller, check [Use Nickname] and enter the nickname.

Register Device

Display the Fiery Remote Scan Device setup window.


If the basic window is opened, click [Choose Device] to open the setup window.

In the [Server Name (or IP address)] column, enter the print controller's IP address.
For the print controller's IP address, contact your Network administrator.

When the IP address and the print controller's name are entered, the button turns green. Click the button.
The entered contents are added and displayed in the list.

In the [Device] column, enter the print controller's name.


For the device name, contact the controller's administrator.

Select a print controller you want to access and click [OK]. Now the print controller is ready to be accessed. This is the end of device registration.

Register / Select Device (Continued)

Select Device
When you are using multiple print controllers, you can register the print controllers respectively. This is the procedure to connect other print controller when one print controller is already connected.

About other buttons


The functions of other buttons on the Fiery Remote Scan setup window are as follows.

On the Fiery Remote Scan basic window, click [Choose Device].


The Setup window appears.

[Copy] button
If this button is pressed while a print controller in My Fiery List is selected, the registered contents are copied.

[Modify] button

From the My Fiery List, select other print controller and click [OK].
When the print controller you selected is connected properly, the basic window appears to operate the print controller.

If this button is pressed while a print controller in My Fiery List is selected, the registered contents are displayed on the basic window [Configuration]. The contents can be changed on the window.

[Remove] button
If this button is pressed while a print controller in My Fiery List is selected, the print controller is deleted.

Basic window
When the Fiery Remote Scan is started and connected to a print controller, the basic window appears. This is the explanation of the basic window.

Go to the device setup window. When a box No. is entered, the jobs in the box are listed.

Jobs in the box entered in the Mailbox column are displayed.

Select [All] to operate all the pages in a job. To operate only one page, select [Page] and enter the page No.

The content of the box entered in the Mailbox column is updated. Delete the jobs. Quit the Remote Scan.

Go to the destination select window.

[Choose Device] button


When this button is pressed, the device setup window appears. When you want to connect to other print controller, press this button to go to the setup window.

[Mailbox] column
Enter a Box No. in the Mailbox.

The Box No. is controlled in 4-digit number. If 1 is entered, jobs in the Box No.0001 are listed.

[Page]
[All] Radio button
Select [All] to operate all the pages in a job.

[Page] Radio button


To operate only one page in a job, select [Page] and enter the page No.

In the page No. column, you can enter only the numbers of pages displayed in the list.

[Refresh] button
When this button is pressed, the Box information is updated and the latest data is listed.

[Delete] button
When a job is selected and this button is pressed, the job is deleted.

[Send] button
When a job is selected and this button is pressed, the destination select screen to operate the job appears.

[Close] button
Press this button when you want to exit the Fiery Remote Scan.

Store Job as Print Queue


Jobs stored in the print controller can be stored as print queue.

Click [Send].
The destination select window appears.

Jobs stored as print queue can be operated on the Command WorkStation. For how to use the Command WorkStation, see the User's Manual of your print controller.

Open the Fiery Remote Scan basic window.

2.

Enter the Box No. that includes the job you want to store as print queue in the Mailbox column.
The jobs stored in the Box are listed.

Check the Fiery Hold Queue checkbox. Click [Send].


The job is stored as print queue. The window returns to the basic window.

Select the job you want to store as print queue from the list. In [Page] field, select [All] or [Page] radio button.

Import Job into PC


Jobs stored in the print controller can be imported into your PC.

Click [Send].
The destination select window appears.

1.

Open the Fiery Remote Scan basic window.

2.

Enter the Box No. that includes the job you want to import into your PC in the Mailbox column.
The jobs stored in the Box are listed.

Select the job you want to import into your PC from the list. In [Page] field, select [All] or [Page] radio button.

Check the Save to Disk checkbox. From the File Format drop-down list, select the file format from PDF, TIFF and JPEG.

JPEG is available only for color images.

Click [Save As], specify a directory and file name, and then click [Save]. Click [Send].
The job is imported into the PC.

Send Job as E-Mail Attachment File


Jobs stored in the print controller can be transmitted as E-Mail attachment files.

Click [Send].
The destination select window appears.

Open the Fiery Remote Scan basic window.

2.

Enter the Box No. that includes the job you want to transmit as E-Mail attachment file in the Mailbox column.
The jobs stored in the Box are listed.

Select the job you want to transmit as E-Mail attachment file from the list. In [Page] field, select [All] or [Page] radio button.

Check the Email checkbox. Click [Edit Email].


The E-Mail transmission window appears.

Enter the E-Mail address where you want to send the file.

11. Select sending the file as attachment


file, or sending the URL where the file is included by E-Mail.
Send as attachment radio button Select when you want to send the file as attachment file. Send as URL radio button When the file is too heavy to send as attachment file, you can mail only the URL information where the file can be accessed.

The attachment file size is limited. Files exceeding the limit are automatically sent as [Send as URL]. For the attachment file size limit setting, please contact your administrator.

12. From the File Format drop-down list,


Enter addresses in Cc and Bcc if necessary. If the addresses have already been registered in the address book, you can select the addresses by clicking [To], [Cc] and [Bcc].

Enter [Subject] and [Message] if necessary.


If none is entered in [Subject] and [Message], the mail is sent with the following texts. Subject Sample has been scanned Message The following document has been scanned on the Fiery and attached to this email:

13. Click [Send].


The job is sent as E-Mail attachment file.

10.Click [OK].

Upload Job to FTP Server


Jobs stored in the print controller can be uploaded onto FTP server.

Click [Send].
The destination select window appears.

Open the Fiery Remote Scan basic window.

2.

Enter the Box No. that includes the job you want to upload onto FTP server in the Mailbox column.
The jobs stored in the Box are listed.

Select the job you want to upload onto FTP server from the list. In [Page] field, select [All] or [Page] radio button.

Check the FTP checkbox.

Click [Edit FTP].


The FTP Destination window appears.

10. From the File Format drop-down list,


select the file format from PDF, TIFF and JPEG.

JPEG is available only for color images.

11. Click [Send].


The job is uploaded onto the FTP server.

Enter the FTP server address and other information.


Server Name Path Port Number Enter the FTP server host address. Enter a directory in the FTP server. Enter the Port Number the FTP server uses. (usually, 21) If wrong Port Number is entered, network failure may occur. Do not change the Port Number unless allowed by the network administrator. Enter Timeout value for FTP server connection. Enter the User name. If it is Anonymous FTP, check the Anonymous Login. Enter the password. Check when you want to transmit data via proxy.

If wrong Port Number is entered, network failure may occur. Basically, do not change the Port Number.

Click [OK].
The destination select window appears.
