SIMSREE Final Placements - Trendsetting performance Overview
Smiles are back across B-School campuses in India, after global slowdown witnessed last year and the recently concluded Annual Campus Recruitment process at Sydenham Institute of Management Studies Research and Entrepreneurship Education (SIMSREE) captured the euphoria to its highest extent. Sydenham once again reinforced its standing as one of the premier B Schools in Mumbai and in the country. After a relative lull last year, 2010 saw a completion of successful placement season for the Silver Jubilee batch of MMS and PGDBM programs with 100 % placements and new benchmarks being set for average salary and no. of offers. This year was marked by sheer diversity of profiles on offer and participation by a plethora of first time recruiters. Once considered amongst the top 6 B Schools in the country (between 1987 and 1994), SIMSREE has displayed the zeal and quality to re enter premier league of Institutes. The placement season which began in mid-December, ended in month of March. Unlike previous years, this year the placement process was spread over weeks instead of days to give both recruiters and students more time to conduct the process and make informed decisions. It was a strategically designed rolling process that facilitated not just 100% placements but also plethora of multiple offers, leaving students spoilt for choice.

SIMSREE Executive Placement Report | 2010 A total of 84 firms participated in the Placement process in 2010 The highest in the history of the institution - with a 40 % increase over last year making a total of 158 offers. The average no. of offers per students stood at 1.47. Indian and global companies from sectors like Banking, Financial Institutions, Consulting, Manufacturing, IT, FMCG, Media & Entertainment, Pharma, Chemical and Insurance participated in the placement process. Public Sector Units (PSUs) and some of Indias largest conglomerates provided much sought after diversity and depth in profiles. Of these 38% were first time recruiters.

The Placements
Being located in Churchgate The heart of the financial capital of the country, Sydenham has the advantage of being the cynosure of the corporate world. It also reaffirmed its position as a premier B school for various recruiters. Finance emerged as the most preferred vertical amongst the students. A whopping 45% of the students chose to join the financial sector. Marketing and Operations also, featured prominently in the placement season with 34% of the roles being offered in Sales and Marketing (Non- BFSI) and about 12% in Operations. Consulting and HR accounted 9 % of the total roles. The largest recruiter for the season was ICICI Bank, who picked up 19 students from the campus. The batch of 2010 saw an average salary of Rs. 8.43 lakhs per annum (lpa) representing a 20 % increase over the previous year. The highest domestic salary scaled up to Rs. 12.25 lpa, with the median salary at Rs. 7.65 lpa. SIMSREE Executive Placement Report | 2010 The year saw establishment of new bonds with many of the first time recruiters like YES Bank, Religare Macquarie, RBS, Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), State Bank of Hyderabad, Central Bank of India, Idea Cellular, Infinity Retail, Mid-Day Group, Bosch Group, Godrej Infotech,Novartis, GVK Bio,Times Group and many others.

71% of students reported a change in industry from their pre-MBA position. 83% of students reported a change in function from their pre-MBA position. Banking & Finance


Sydenham has reinstated its position as a preferred destination for coveted roles across the finance domain with more than 45% of offers received from the financial sector. The domain enjoyed a diverse mix of roles ranging from Private Banking to Corporate Finance and Equity Research to Corporate Banking and Treasury. The recruiters had representation from MNCs and Indian banks, Investment Banking firms, Credit Rating Agencies, Derivatives & Fixed Income Securities Broking firms and Asset Management Companies. Banking sector dominated the Placements Season with MNCs like Citibank, Bank of America (BACS), Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and private sector giants like ICICI Bank, YES Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and PSU behemoths like IDBI Bank, Central Bank of India, State Bank of Hyderabad and Bank of Baroda participating in the process. Prominent names in the financial services function included J P Morgan Chase, Religare Enterprises, HDFC Ltd., CRISIL, ICICI Prudential AMC and Tresvista Financials Services. Other firms like ICICI Securities, ICRA Online, Centrum Finance, Darashaw & Co., HDFC Securities, First Global Finance and CMIE offered lucrative profiles.

Marketing & Sales


Profiles in Marketing ranged from Market research to branding and modern trade management to Retail as well as Sales and Business development. In the broader marketing domain, firms such as Godrej & Boyce, ovartis, Infinity Retail (TATA Croma), Idea

Cellular, Bharti Airtel, Jindal Steel & Power, BSH (Bosch und Siemens Hausgerte) Home Appliances made offers to marketing enthusiasts. FMCG firms were represented by Pepsi Co (Frito Lay Division), Pidilite and Reckitt Benckiser offering roles in Sales and Supply Chain Management (SCM). Market Research firms like ielsen Bases,

IMRB, Synovate and TAM Media Research recruited students for research analyst and client service roles. Alia group (an arm of Future Group) and marketing consulting firm Direxions offered profiles in branding and marketing strategy. Terracon India, a start up firm by one of our alumnus in sustainable solutions offered a role in Business Development.

General Management
General management roles were offered by companies like Vedanta Resources PLC, SKF Group, Thomas Cook, Reliance Infrastructure, Dicitex Decor and Galaxy Surfactants. Mid-Day Group offered a role in corporate strategy & planning with designation as Executive Assistant (EA) to CEO. Geetanjali Group provided offers in corporate advisory and finance. Operations, logistics & SCM solutions firms like T T logistics, Gati and Ugam Solutions also participated in the process.

Consulting
The year marked a welcome return of some of the best consulting firms at SIMSREE for recruitments. Students were offered Consulting roles across sectors like IT, Infrastructure Advisory, SCM and Management Consulting. Some of the firms that participated in the process were Infosys Technologies, Dun and Bradstreet, Global e Procure, Technopak Advisors, ABPS Infrastructure, Astute Consulting and Alchemist Ark.

IT/ITES
Information Technology companies, who had frozen recruitments previously due to poor macroeconomic conditions, were back in full force and hired in large numbers. The prominent names from this sector included - The Indian big three Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys and Wipro, apart from HCL, Patni Computer Services, Godrej Infotech and Helix Technologies. KPIT Cummins and L&T Infotech participated in lateral recruitment process. Profiles offered were Business Analyst, IT Consulting, IT Sales, Business Development, Project Management, Operations (Process & Quality) and Corporate HR. ITES was represented by TCS E-Serve and Wipro BPO which recruited students in process specialist /project management and talent transformation roles.

Others
Major recruiters from Chemical/Bio/Pharma Industries included BASF, Huntsman International, Galaxy Surfactants, GVK Bio and ovartis. New and emerging sectors like Media & Entertainment also, received high preference from the students. This sector saw participation from Zee Entertainment, DTV Media, Balaji Telefilms, Times Group,

Mid-Day group, Madison Media and etwork 18.

PSUs like Coal India Ltd., Bank of Baroda, IDBI Bank, Central Bank of India and State Bank of Hyderabad participated and selected students across various domains.

SIMSREE has a 3000-member strong alumni network, which continues to be diverse and representative of highest levels of business leadership in India as well as worldwide. Alumni played an active role in sharing their experience/insights from wide range of industries, to prepare students for campus placements. Many of them came back as recruiters during placement season for the graduating batch. They had a big role to play in ensuring participation from best organizations across industry verticals and making Annual Campus Recruitment process a grand success.
