Welcome to our last new entrant for this term.

Poppy OKeefe, Harley and Jakes little sister started in Room 1 this week. School life is busy! Classes are conducting safety audits of our school, town planning is going on in some rooms, Ronald McDonald has been to visit talking about Road Safety, each class has had 2 sessions in the Life Education classroom trailer. All of the content from these activities fit in with our inquiry into safety and hazards. Throw in a few Moffet Cup practices and the 'normal' classroom programme of teaching and learning and there is a lot going on! A big thing for teachers at this time of year is reflecting on the half year of learning and writing up your child's report snapshot. These 'moment in time' reports form the basis for our 3 way conference interview, in Week 1 of next Term, before Moffet Cup in Week 2!

First Aid Course: Thank you to

Spellathon: Thank you so much for the
amazing effort with the spellathon! It is brilliant to see the pleasing results from the children and the effort they made to get as many correct as possible. We appreciate the effort people went to collecting sponsorship. We have raised $4045 from the spellathon. An amazing total to spend on resources for our classrooms. There are still some families to get money in or return their cards so hopefully this total may rise. A big thank you also to the ladies who helped on the day with the marking. It was super to have the results ready for the children to take home.

From the Classroom Week 9 Term 2

Room 1 have been looking at potential dangers around our school and then coming up with ideas to help fix these hazards. We are learning how to be super problems solvers! Look out Mr Lovelock as letters and emails are coming your way with some suggestions on how to avoid potential disasters - like signs for staying out of the mud puddles! Please remember to pop a change of pants in your child's bag in case of a 'muddy' lunchtime! We really enjoyed the visit from Amby the Ambulance yesterday. We role played dialling 111 and asking for help. It highlighted that the children need practice knowing their phone number and address. We are working on this at school this week. It would be great if you could do this at home as well. Certificates: Sam Scott for fabulous reading. Room 2 has had a very busy time! We have loved all the visitors to school, and this afternoon enjoyed hearing about some first aid. "The stags talked about playing rugby." said Oliver Lemin. "I liked Harold and he showed us a movie" said Angus. "The big kids did the haka for the stags. They were cool." said Nick. "I liked when Ronald McDonald came to tell us about road safety." said Lily. "I got the sock off Ronald McDonalds back!" said Cody. Certificate- Nick Brown Room 3 We had a great day on Friday making Pizzas. We really enjoyed making, cooking and cutting them, but we loved eating them the most! Our favourite pizzas were the dessert pizzas, especially the chocolate buttons on them. We are now working hard to say our basic facts to 5 in under 2 minutes, the flash cards are helping with this. Certificates: Bailey Pike, Mackenzie Robinson Room 4 Last Friday Ronald McDonald visited our school and had a road safety message for us. Stop, look and listen before you cross the road otherwise you might get run over, Liam. Always walk on the zebra crossing, Ciara On Monday we visited the Life Education Bus and learnt about how to look after each other. Don't leave anyone out, Riley. Ask people who are on their own to play with you, Sophie. We also learnt about play ground safety. Don't push to hard on the tyre swing, Timothy. Make sure there are safety pads underneath the slides incase you fall off, Danja. Certificates: Delta Rogan, Ethan White Room 5 Moffet Cup practice is underway and Room 5 are really enjoying getting out in the afternoons playing Netball and Rippa Rugby. Netball is a bit hard but it's fun. Emma R It's fun because we get to make new friends. Cassie It's a very attacking sport. Rebecca I like Rippa because you get your clothes dirty. Brock I like Rippa because it gives you a lot of exercise. Ollie For writing we have been writing a Geronimo stilton adventure. It has been fun. Eilish Certificates: Katie Cameron, Blake Mitchell, Ben Black Room 6 are in our final 3 weeks of Term 2 which means we are winding up our midyear goals. A lot of our class has excelled during the first 2 terms and have \nailed their half-year goals. Some are so close they can taste it and others have got a little bit of work to do to achieve their goal. Final basic facts test is at the end of next week. Big congratulations to Izak who got 120/120 in 2 minutes and 40 seconds in his last test. Certificates: Bradley Hay, Daniel Mckenzie Room 7 Over the last week we took part in the Life Education Bus. Room 7 looked at why we are unique, how we can be tolerant of others and the choices we have in life and the consequences that go with those. Booklets on these activities have gone home this week for you to look at with your family. For our Inquiry on "Safety" Room 7 and 8 have a very exciting next stage which involves developing their own "Safe Community". We are planning to explore buildings in Invercargill on Friday so if you can take a car and look after a group please return your notice asap. Certificates: Devon Grey, Ben Clixby Room 8 Simone: Weve been doing projects for our reading groups and the Tui group have been preparing for a news show called, G.E. TV news the cool thing about it is that its on the internet live and you can get to make up the script and the pictures. You can view these on our class blog myrossroom8.blogspot.com Sean: Room 8 have been learning about businesses at Jibboo and are learning about money and taxes and all the things we have to know when were older. Its been a great experience - I think well all be good business men and women. Assembly
