MOBILE DETECTOR

1. INTRODUCTION:
This handy, pocket-size mobile transmission detector can sense the presence of an activated mobile phone from a distance of one-and-a-half meters. So it can be used to prevent use of mobile phones in examination halls, confidential rooms, etc. It is also useful for detecting the use of mobile phone for spying and unauthorized video transmission. The circuit can detect both, the incoming and outgoing calls, SMS and video transmission even if the mobile phone is kept

in the silent mode.

3. WORKING:
The moment the bug detects RF transmission signal from an activated mobile phone, it starts sounding a beep alarm and the LED blinks. The alarm continues until the signal transmission ceases. An ordinary RF detector using tuned LC circuits is not suitable for detecting signals in the GHz frequency band used in mobile phones. The transmission frequency of mobile phones ranges from 0.9 to 3 GHz with a wavelength of 3.3 to 10 cm. So a circuit detecting gigahertz signals is required for a mobile bug

Here the circuit uses a 0.22F disk capacitor (C3) to capture the RF signals from the mobile phone. The lead length of the capacitor is fixed as 18 mm with a spacing of 8 mm between the leads to get the desired frequency. The disk capacitor along with the leads acts as a small gigahertz loop antenna to collect the RF signals from the mobile phone. Op-amp IC CA3130 (IC1) is used in the circuit as a current-to-voltage converter with capacitor C3 connected between its inverting and non-inverting inputs. It is a CMOS version using gate-protected p-channel MOSFET transistors in the input to provide very high input impedance, very low input current and very high speed of performance. The output CMOS transistor is capable of swinging the output voltage to within 10 mV of either supply voltage terminal. Capacitor C3 in conjunction with the lead inductance acts as a transmission line that intercepts the signals from the mobile phone. This capacitor creates a field, stores energy and transfers the stored energy in the form of minute current to the inputs of IC1. This will upset the balanced input of IC1 and convert the current into the corresponding output voltage. Capacitor C4 along with high-value resistor R1 keeps the non-inverting input stable for easy swing of the output to high state. Resistor R2 provides the discharge path for capacitor C4. Feedback resistor R3 makes the inverting input high when the output becomes high. Capacitor C5 (47pF) is connected across strobe (pin 8) and null inputs (pin 1) of IC1 for phase compensation and gain control to optimize the frequency response. When the mobile phone signal is detected by C3, the output of IC1 becomes high and low alternately according to the frequency of the signal as indicated by LED1. This triggers monostable timer IC2 through capacitor C7. Capacitor C6 maintains the base bias of transistor T1 for fast switching action. The low-value timing components R6 and C9 produce very short time delay to avoid audio nuisance. Assemble the circuit on a general-purpose PCB as compact as possible and enclose in a small box like junk mobile case. As mentioned earlier, capacitor C3 should have a lead length of 18 mm with lead spacing of 8 mm. carefully solder the capacitor in standing position with equal spacing of the leads. The response can be optimized by trimming the lead length of C3 for the desired frequency. You may use a short telescopic type antenna. Use the miniature 12V battery of a remote control and a small buzzer to make the gadget pocket-size. The unit will give the warning indication if someone uses mobile phone within a radius of 1.5 meters.

4. COMPONENTS USED IN THE DESIGN OF THE CIRCUIT:

1. Graphical LCD 2. Microcontroller-8051 3. 555-timer IC 4. Operational amplifier 5. Buzzer 6. Antenna All the above components are interfaced with each other to get a perfect circuit.

Resistors and capacitors are also used here.

The above is the block diagram of the components which are numbered respectively.

5. BLOCK DIAGRAM DESCRIPTION: 5.1 MICROCONTROLLER-8051: 5.1.1 INTRODUCTION:

There are several applications where the amount of memory and number of input/output ports required are not large. For such applications all these functional units can be integrated on one IC. This is called microcontroller. A highly integrated chip that contains all the components comprising a controller is called a microcontroller. This typically includes a CPU, RAM, ROM, I/O ports, timers, interrupt circuits is a micro controller. Despite its relatively old age, 8051 is one of the most popular micro controllers in use today. Many microcontrollers have been developed, that are based on and compatible with the 8051.But it is the most preferred one

5.1.2 8051 FAMILY:

There are 2 other members of 8051 .they are 8031 and 8052.8031 is known as a ROM-less 8051 microcontroller. In spite of having great features 8052 is preferred lesser than that of the 8051because of its compatibility and speed. The pin diagram and block diagram of 8051 are given below respectively.

5.1.3 PIN AND BLOCK DIAGRAMS:

5.1.4 ARCHITECTURE OF 8051:

5.2 555 - TIMER IC:

It is an integrated chip used in a variety of timer, pulse generation and oscillator applications.

5.2.1 MODES:

The 555 has three operating modes. 1. MONOSTABLE - in this mode the IC functions as a one-shot pulse generator 2. ASTABLE - It is also called as a free-running mode. It operates as an oscillator in this mode.

3. BISTABLE - OR Schmitt trigger mode .in this mode it operates as a flip-flop.

5.2.2 PIN DIAGRAM:

It is mainly used in latches, switches, alarms, clocks, PWM, PPM, etc.

5.3 OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIER:

The voltage and current amplifiers are built using transistors. Circuits of this kind with properties like high gain and high input impedance (for example) packed as ICs are called op-amps. They are called operational amplifiers because they are used to perform arithmetic operations with signals. In fact they can also be used to integrate and differentiate signals.

5.4 BUZZER : It is an audio signaling device. It may be mechanical, electromechanical or piezoelectric. The ab

USES:
1. Game shows 2. Microwave ovens and household appliances, ETC. The figure given below is a piezoelectric buzzer.

5.5 GRAPHICAL LCD:

The Graphics LCD as the name suggests is a type of LCD which can display graphics. The graphical representation of any data presents good understanding than just characters. More user friendly applications can be designed by using the graphical LCDs. The graphical LCD can be used for advertisement boards or information boards and so on. This article explains the method of displaying image on a 128x64 graphical LCD using AT89C52. User friendly visual displays are used nowadays to keep track of working of any device. Such a visual display can be anything ranging from old Analog meters to new and smart Digital meters. In digital world to keep track of devices, LCDs are very commonly used. LCDs are easy to program and prove to be a better display unit as compared to other devices like seven segments and LED display units. The graphics LCDs are preferred over the character LCDs for those applications where both character and graphical representation are required.

6 .APPLICATIONS:
1. Examination halls. 2. In general context ,it can be used in confidential rooms, which prevents the use of mobile phones for spying and unauthorized video transmission such as piracy, etc.

7. ADVANTAGES: 1. Automatic detecting of the using of mobile phone. 2. Handy and pocket size. 3. Prevents unauthorized transmission of information.

8. DISADVANTAGES:
1. It covers a radius of 1.5 meters only.
