Notes about Puranas:

Padma Purana, Uttara Khanda (236.18-21), explicitly states that the eighteen Puranas are divided according to the three modes of nature.: vaisnavam naradiyanca tathabhagavatam subham garudanca tathapadmam varaham subhadarsane sattvikanipuranani vijneyani subhani vai brahmandam brahmavaivartam markandeyam tathaiva ca bhavisyam vamanam brahmam rajasani nibodhame matsyam kaurmam tathalaingam saivam skandam tathaiva ca agneyam ca sadetani tamasani nibodhame * (Sanskrit - ancient Indic language, classical literary language of India )

Lord Siva said: "O beautiful lady (Parvati), know that the Visnu, Narada, Bhagavata, Garuda, Padma and Varaha Puranas are sattvika; the Brahmanda, Brahma-vaivarta, Markandeya, Bhavisya, Vamana and Brahma Puranas are rajasika; and the Matsya, Kurma, Linga, Siva, Skanda and Agni Puranas are tamasika."

Srila Prabhupada: Puras are made just to complete Vedic knowledge, or supplementary addition to the Vedic literature.Because Vedic literature is very difficult to understand, therefore they have been expanded by the Puras for different classes of men. So there are three divisions of the Puras: sattvika Pura, rjasika Pura and tamasika Pura. Sattvika Pura is meant for the higher class of people who are in transcendental knowledge of Brahman, Paramtm and the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Rjasika Pura are meant for those who are aspiring to have improvement of material condition. And tamasika Pura are meant for those who are in the lowest stage of..., little, just like animal life, and to develop them the Pura is helping them to come to the second and first stage. So there are different kinds of Puras, eighteen Puras. Because the whole Vedic literature means to claim all kinds of men. Not that those who are meat-eaters or drunkards, they are rejected. No. Everyone is accepted but there is-just like you go to a doctor. He'll prescribe you different medicine according to the different disease. Not that he has got one disease, one medicine. Whoever comes and, offers that medicine. No. That is real treatment. Gradually, gradually. But in the sttvika-puras, they are meant for immediately worshiping the Supreme Personality of Godhead. There is no gradual process. But gradually, one who comes to this stage, he's advised. So Padma Pura is one of the Puras in the modes of goodness. "No one can understand the transcendental nature of the name, form, qualities and pastimes of r Ka through his materially contaminated senses. Only when one becomes spiritually saturated by transcendental service to the Lord, are the transcendental name, form, quality and pastimes of the Lord revealed to him." (Padma Pura)

There are eighteen puras, six for each quality, modes of the nature. Six, six puras for the person who are in the modes of ignorance, six puras for the person who are in the modes of passion, and six puras for persons who are in the mode of goodness, those who are actually qualified brhmaas. So rmad-Bhgavatam is called Mah-pura. Mah-pura means the topmost of all the puras.

Jesus was mentioned in the Vedic literatures more than 3000 years before He appeared.
In the book called Bhavishya Purana there's a very nice and concise overview of the mission and mood of Jesus the Son of God. We have clear written evidence from the ancient scriptures of India, written down more than five thousand years ago by the great sage Srila Krishna Dvaipayana Veda Vyasa that the coming of Christ (The Son of God) was a genuine incident where the Lord sent His pure devotee to perform a particular function among a particular group of people in a particular tract of land. In Bhavishya Purana He is referred to specifically as Isha Putra "the Son of God". In the following excerpt from a lecture of our Founder Acarya Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada he clearly points out how the Lord sends His partial expansion in the form of empowered being for functionary aspects of fulfilling His works. These empowered beings in the Sanskrit language of India are termed saktyavesha avataras. "Lord Buddha, Jesus Christ, they are counted as saktyavesha avataras. They are also incarnations of saktyavesha, powerful, in this way the Supreme Lord manifest all over the universes." (A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. 1966. Chaitanya Charitamrta lecture. New York.)

Previously when they appeared They did so swith and for a set purpose. Even prior to their appearance in this world Their clear task was already set out. Actually They were not of this world, but are spiritual beings empowered by the Supreme Personality of Godhead to come to this world to fulfil His mission. As we know Lord Buddha came to stop the people from their animal slaughter and to teach the compassionate path. Their appearance in this world was not of some sectarian, conquestrian mission unlike some of their latter day "followers". They appeared at a particular place at a particular time and under specific circumstances that allowed the people of the day to accept their mission as meaningful. It was part of the overall plan to re-instill and spread God consciousness, to the masses who were/are in so much need of it. From SRI BHAVISHYA PURANA. Pratisarga parva, Chaturyuga Khanda Dvitiyadhyayah, 19th Chapter. (text 17-21 onwards). "Ruling over the Aryans was a king called Salivahana, the grandson of Vikramaditya, who occupied the throne of his father. He defeated the Sakas who were very difficult to subdue, the Cinas, the people from Tittiri and Bahikaus who could assume any form at will. He also defeated the people from Rome and the descendants of Khuru, who were deceitful and wicked. He punished them severely and took their wealth. Salivahana thus established the boundaries dividing the separate countries of the Mlecchas and the Aryans. In this way Sindusthan came to to be known as the greatest country. That personality appointed the abode of the Mlecchas beyond the Sindhu river and to the west." ekad tu akdho himatugm samyayau hadeasya madhye vai giristha puruam ubham dadara balabnnj gaurga vetavastrakam "Once upon a time the subduer of the Sakas went towards Himatunga and in the middle of the Huna country (Hunadesh - the area near Manasa Sarovara or Kailash mountain in Western Tibet), the powerful king saw an auspicious man who was living on a mountain. The man's complexion was golden and his clothes were white." (Bhaviya Purana 19.22)

A discussion between Srila Prabhupada (His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada / Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness - ISKCON) and one of his disciple) -- Room Conversation -- April 2, 1977, Bombay Tamla Ka dasa: "What is the difference between a pure Christian, or at least a sincere one, and a sincere devotee of Ka?" Srila Prabhupda: No difference. Tamla Ka dasa: He says he read a passage of the Bhaviya Mah-Pura written by Vysadeva three thousand years before Christ foretelling Jesus Christ's presence in the Himalayas in 78 of the Christian era, and his meeting with King Shalamoyi.(?) Are there any other prophecies in the Bhaviya Mah-Pura or in any other scriptures telling more accurately Jesus Christ's birthday? Srila Prabhupda: Everything is accurate there.

Tamla Ka dasa: In that particular Pura? He says he is sorry to take your very precious time, and he prays that you answer all of his questions, which you have done. So he thanks you very much for reading this letter and for your expected help. He asks one last question in a P.S., which I think is practically an important question. He says, "To practically follow Jesus Christ for a sincere searcher of the truth who does not recognize and accept the external manifestations of the Ka consciousness movement, is it possible to attain love of God?" No.

Jesus was mentioned in the Vedic literatures more than 3000 years before He appeared.
Srila Prabhupda: Love of God means God's mercy. If God is pleased, He can do anything. So that pleasure of God can be awakened by love. This is called in Sanskrit kp-siddhi. Perfection out of affection. Out of mercy. Bhavisya means future. The most magnificent incarnation of the Lord, Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu is also predicted in Bhavisya Purana. Before 5000 years the Supreme Lord says: anandru-kla-roma hara-purnam tapo-dhana sarve mama eva drakyanti kalau sannyasa-rupinam "O sage whose wealth is austerity, in the Kali-yuga everyone will see My form as a sannyasi, a form filled with tears of bliss and bodily hairs standing erect." (Bhavisya Purana) ka-vara tvika sgopgstra-pradam yajai sakrtana-pryair yajanti hi su-medhasa

"In the age of Kali, intelligent persons perform congregational chanting to worship the incarnation of Godhead who constantly sings the name of Krsna. Although His complexion is not blackish, He is Krsna Himself. He is accompanied by His associates, servants, weapons and confidential companions." (Srimad-Bhagavatam 11.5.32, Karabhajana Muni speaks to King Nimi) Lord's messenger Mohammed was predicted with simply words: "An illiterate teacher will appear, Mohammed is his name, and he will give religion to his fifth-class companions." (Bhavisya Purana, Parva 3, Khand 3, Adya 3, verses 5-6)

fifth-class companions

Candala, mleccha and yavana are doing anything and everything without any control. Yavana-mleccha means generally they are meat-eaters, especially cow meat, cow flesh eaters. The first-class faithful men are the Vaisnavas and the brahmanas, then the ksatriyas, then the vaisyas, then the sudras, then the mlecchas, the yavanas and at last the candalas. The degradation of the human instinct begins from the mlecchas, and the candala state of life is the last word in human degradation. All the above terms mentioned in the Vedic literatures are never meant for any particular community or birth. They are different qualifications of human beings in general. There is no question of birthright or community. One can acquire the respective qualifications by one's own efforts, and thus the son of a Vaisnava can become a mleccha, or the son of a candala can become more than a brahmana, all in terms of their association and intimate relation with the Supreme Lord. The meat-eaters are generally called mlecchas.

The prediction of Islam as given in the

Bhavishya Purana
From the third part of the Pratisarga Parva Shri Suta Gosvami said: In the dynasty of king Shalivahana, there were ten kings who went to the heavenly planets after ruling for over 500 years. Then gradually the morality declined on the earth. At that time Bhojaraja was the tenth of the kings on the earth. When he saw that the moral law of conduct was declining he went to conquer all the directions of his country with ten-thousand soldiers commanded by Kalidasa. He crossed the river Sindhu and conquered over the gandharas, mlecchas, shakas, kasmiris, naravas and sathas. He punished them and collected a large ammount of wealth. Then the king went along with Mahamada (Mohammad), the preceptor of mleccha-dharma, and his followers to the great god, Lord Shiva, situated in the desert. He bathed Lord Shiva with Ganges water and worshipped him in his mind with pancagavya (milk, ghee, yoghurt, cow dung, and cow urine) and sandalwood paste, etc. After he offered some prayers and pleased him.

Suta Goswami said: After hearing the king's prayers, Lord Shiva said: O king Bhojaraja, you should go to the place called Mahakakshvara, that land is called Vahika and now is being contaminated by the mlecchas. In that terrible country there no longer exists dharma. There was a mystic demon named Tripura, whom I have already burnt to ashes, he has come again by the order of Bali. He has no origin but he achieved a benediction from me. His name is Mahaoda and his deeds are like that of a ghost. Therefore, O king, you should not go to this land of the evil ghost. By my mercy your intelligence will be purified.

Hearing this the king came back to his country and Mahamada came with them to the bank of the river Sindhu. He was expert in expanding illusion, so he said to the king very pleasingly: O great king, your god has become my servant. Just see, as he eats my remnants, so I will show you. The king became surprised when he saw this just before them. Then in anger Kalidasa rebuked Mahamada, "O rascal, you have created an illusion to bewilder the king, I will kill you, you are the lowest..." That city is known as their site of pilgrimage, a place which was Madina or free from intoxication. Having a form of a ghost (Bhuta), the expert illusionist Mahamada appeared at night in front of king Bhojaraja and said: O king, your religion is of course known as the best religion among all. Still I am going to establish a terrible and demoniac religion by the order of the Lord. The symptoms of my followers will be that they first of all will cut their genitals, have no shikha, but having beard, be wicked, make noise loudly and eat everything. They should eat animals without performing any rituals. This is my opinion. They will perform purificatory act with the musala or a pestle as you purify your things with kusha. Therefore, they will be known as musalman, the corrupters of religion. Thus the demoniac religion will be founded by me. After having heard all this the king came back to his palace and that ghost went back to his place. The intelligent king, Bhojaraj established the language of Sanskrit in three varnas - the brahmanas, kshatriyas and vaisyas - and for the shudras he established prakrita-bhasha, the ordinary language spoken by common men. After ruling his kingdom for 50 years, he went to the heavenly planet. The moral laws established by him were honored even by the demigods. The arya-varta, the pious land is situated between Vindhyacala and Himacala or the mountains known as Vindhya and Himalaya. The Aryans reside there, but varna-sankaras reside on the

lower part of Vindhya. The musalman people were kept on the other side of the river Sindhu. On the island of Barbara, Tusha and many others also the followers of Isamsiha were also situated as they were managed by a king or demigods.
