is Enough Sin for a Person to Neglect Those He Supports Abdullah bin Amr radi Allahu anhu said, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhe wa sallam said, It is enough sin for a person to neglect those he supports (sustains). [Reported by Ahmed and Abu Dawud]i And it is with Muslim with wording, It is enough sin for a person to withhold from one his food (that) he possessesii. Explanation of the Vocabulariesiii : He supports (sustains) the one he must provide him his food, and the food (nourishment) that sustains the body and suffices from thea need. From the Benefits of the Hadithiv: 1. Obligation of spending upon the family, and the children, and those in possession (i.e. under ones guardianship), because the Legislator made the sin upon the neglecting of their expense. 2. The spending upon these is better than the rest of the ways of spending, and that is because the spending upon these is an individual obligation, and the spending upon other than them is a collective obligation or optional, and the individual obligation is better and more incumbent than the collective obligation and from the optional (actions). 3. It is must upon the Muslim to start by the obligatory spending upon him; and from these is the spending upon the wife, and the children, and those in possession (i.e. under ones guardianship), then after that for him is to give charity. 4. The permissibility of working and earning in order to spend upon himself and upon those he sustains from those their spending is obligatory for him.
