EWSD
Line/Trunk Group B (LTGB)

General The line/trunk groups (LTG) in EWSD form the interface between the access area (subscriber lines, connected via digital line units (DLU), trunks, access networks (AN) and the switching network (SN). The line/trunk groups can handle all the signaling systems used on the connected lines. With their independent controls they relieve the coordination processor (CP) of routine jobs. The LTGs carry out local control tasks such as reception of dialed information, call charge registration, line supervision etc.

Benefits The main features of LTGB are: lower power consumption exible memory upgrade extremely high reliability modern technology; application-specic integrated circuits (ASIC)

Functions
The line/trunk group B (LTGB) provides interfaces for: 4 x PCM30 transmission links with 2048 kbit/s each 5 x PCM24 transmission links with 1544 kbit/s each 4 x V5.2 accesses Thus the LTGB supports the connection of: local or remote digital line units (DLU) medium-size and large ISDN PBXs digital trunks V5.2 interfaces for connecting extraneous hardware via the access network (AN)

The LTGB consists of: Group processor (GP) Link interface unit between LTG and SN (LIU) Group switch (GS) or Speech multiplexer A (SPMXA) Signaling unit (SU) Line/trunk unit (LTU)

GP

*) LTU5 and LTU6 are not assigned when SPMXA is installed

Group processor (GP) The group processor (GP) is an independent control unit. The GP adapts the incoming information from the network node environment to the internal message format of the system and controls the LTG functional units. The GP of the LTGB consists of: Processor memory unit (PMU) Signaling link control (SILC) Group clock generator for line/trunk group, module Y (GCG:LTGY) Signal multiplexer, module C (SMXC) The processor memory unit (PMU) controls the remaining functional units of the LTG as programmed. The signaling link control (SILC) has the function of an input/output processor (IOP). On the LTG side, the SILC terminates layer 2 of signaling protocols (synchronization, fault detection, fault handling) thus ensuring secure message exchange between peripheral unit and GP. If the V5.2 interface is used on the LTGB for connecting extraneous hardware (access network, AN), signaling link control module D (SILCD) is required instead of the SILC. The group clock generator for line/trunk group (GCG:LTGY) controls the clock supply of the functional units of the LTG. The GCG:LTGY contains the group clock generator (GCG), the watchdog unit (WDU) and two data link controls (DLC) with direct memory access (DMA). Signal multiplexer, module C (SMXC) forms the interface between the GP and the other functional units of the LTG. Link interface unit between LTG and SN (LIU) The link interface unit between LTG and SN (LIU) connects the LTG to the duplicated switching network (SN). The LIU converts the 8-Mbit/s highway from the functional units of the LTGB into two parallel 8-Mbit/s secondary digital carriers (SDC) to the SN. Conversely, it receives the user information from the active switching network-half via two parallel SDCs and forwards it to the functional units of the LTGB. The LIU synchronizes the information arriving over secondary digital carriers from the SN with the LTG-internal clock system and feeds the clock (8 MHz) of the central clock generator (CCG) to the clock generator of the LTG (GCG:LTGY). After each connection setup, the LIU verifies correct through-connection in the SN with the aid of the crossoffice check (COC).

Group switch (GS) The group switch (GS) is a non-blocking time stage. The GS is connected via 12 speech highways, output/input (SPHO/I), with the GP, the line/trunk units (LTU) and the signaling unit (SU). Each speech highway, output (SPHO) and speech highway, input (SPHI) contains 32 channels with a data rate of 64 kbit/s each. The group switch (GS) consists of Parallel-series converter (PSC) MCA basic module (MCAA) MCA expansion module for conference (MCAB) Group switch control (GSC) Speech multiplexer A (SPMXA) The speech multiplexer (SPMXA) is a non-blocking time stage controlled by the GP. The SPMXA combines the 2-Mbit/s inputs of the SPHI from the LTUs, the SU and the GP with the 8-Mbit/s input of the LIU. The SPMXA converts the serial user information from the SPHIs into parallel form. Then it converts it back into serial form and feeds it onto the SPHO. The received user information is transferred by the SPMXA on the SPHO to LTU and SU. Signaling unit (SU) The signaling unit (SU) of the LTGB consists of: Code receiver (CR) Receiver module for continuity check (RM:CTC) Tone generator (TOG) Use of the code receiver (CR) depends on the application. Code receivers can be installed for pushbutton dialing (CRP) and/or for multifrequency code (CRM). The code receivers are assigned to pushbutton dialing subscribers and trunks only for the duration of digit input. When trunks with common channel signaling according to signaling system No. 7 (SS7) are used, the receiver module for continuity check (RM:CTC) is required. The tone generator (TOG) generates the required audible tones and the required frequencies for multifrequency code (MFC). They are generated centrally for all line/trunk units (LTU).

Line/trunk unit (LTU) The task of the line/trunk unit (LTU) is to adapt connected lines to the internal LTG interfaces and equalize propagation delays (synchronizing network node and line clock). The LTUs also process the signaling to and from the connected lines. They receive commands from the GP (e.g. switching signals to be transmitted) and they inform the GP of events in the periphery. The LTU of the LTGB consists of: Digital interface unit (DIU) Conference unit (COUB) Automatic test equipment (ATE) Code receiver (CR) Individual digital announcement system (INDAS) The digital interface unit, 2048 kbit/s, module D (DIU30D) is used for connecting PCM30 highways. Alternatively, the digital interface unit, 1544 kbit/s, module D (DIU24D) is used for connecting PCM24 highways. For connecting a V5.2 interface the digital interface unit, 2048 kbit/s, module F (DIU30F) is used. The conference unit (COUB) is required for connections on which more than three and not more than eight speech channels are to be interconnected, such as for conferences with more than three parties, telemeeting for interconnection of subscribers under a public directory number, or meet-me calls for interconnection of selected subscribers under individual directory numbers. Two versions of the automatic test equipment (ATE) are used: Automatic test equipment for trunks (ATE:T) tests trunks and tone generators (TOG) in routine tests. The ATE:T consists of the test equipment module for level transmitting and measuring (TEM:LE) and the test equipment module for control panel (TEM:COP). Automatic test equipment for transmission measuring (ATE:TM) is the measuring device for manual on-demand testing of trunks with the trunk work station (TWS). The ATE:TM is also used as a measuring module for directors or responders within the automatic transmission measuring and signaling testing equipment 2 for international 4-wire telephone trunks (ATME2). Code receivers (CR) can be used in the LTU if the capacity of the SU is no longer adequate. It is possible to install CRs for pushbutton dialing (CRP) and/or for multifrequency code signaling (CRM).

The individual digital announcement system (INDAS) generates the necessary standard announcements in EWSD. In addition to the standard announcements, INDAS also generates individual announcements. Standard and individual announcements are produced in digital form. INDAS is implemented with the operationally controlled equipment for announcement OCANEQ. The announcement equipment consists of: Operationally controlled equipment for announcement, stored program control (OCE:SPC) Operationally controlled equipment for announcement, memory unit (PROM) (OCE:MUP).
