Impact of distance learning on India and people

Abstract

Purpose:To know how important role distance education or learning in India and how much it is helping those who are not able to afford the expenses of regular education ,for those who lives in those areas where there are no institutes for higher education ,for those who dont have time for regular classes due to jobs or reasons like for those women who have to take care of their families and how it is contributing to our country and how it is helping in development of our country in terms of economy and other things. How technology make it more effective.

Design & Methodology:Research is the systematic design, collection, analysis, and reporting of data and finding that are relevant importance of distance learning. This is exploratory research design and descriptive research design .In this research we used both primary data and secondary data. The sources of primary data are questionnaire method and direct interview method. The sources of secondary data are internet .The sampling technique of this research is Convenience sampling and our sample size is 50.

Findings:This type of programs are playing very crucial role in promoting education in our country specially in those part where the infrastructure is not so good institutions for higher education. it is playing very impactful role in the life of those who are no able to study regularly because of their jobs, their families or some economic reasons and it have good future in India because most of the Indian population lives below poverty line and this type of program helps them to study and earn money at same time which help country in two way first is it is promoting the economic condition of these people as well as country and second is that it increases the literacy rate.

Research limitations:The sample size which we have taken is in very small because in this we have taken the sample of only 50 .The method of sampling which we have taken is convenience due to which there are some chances of biasness .The research is restricted to very small. The data we have collected we collect from one area due to which the chances of getting similar response is also there in this research. The time we spent in doing this research is also a limitation because it was quite short

INTRODUCTION The main purpose of writing this paper is to explore how people are taking benefit from distance education, how people of different classes and the different ages and form both the genders and regions .and how these people are contributing in the development of country by getting benefited through distance education. So we can say that distance education mode has become very popular and common in India, because it is catering to a wide range of aspirants (students), who are willing to upgrade their educational qualifications for various reasons. The Distance education system provides opportunities not only to younger students but also to those from the older age groups. The main reasons for increasing interest in Distance education lies in the need for continuing education in today's competitive world. Every people always try to add value to their competence in their bid to advance their carrier further. Distance Education is also very cheaper to compare with regular mode of education. Distance education has greatly reduced the wall of distance between education and a normal student beyond the long distance of home or work place to university. Now just a little need to increase the need to make it professional and employability part of education community.

The distance education mode was adopted by many universities to meet the ever-growing demand of those students who lacked means to pursue higher education through the regular stream. Also, there were economic constraints. Consequently, many universities in India in various regions started correspondence courses or programs by providing notes, developing a system of evaluation of response sheets. The success of these courses led to the establishment of Indira Gandhi National Open University, which is now rated as one of the best distance courses university in the world.

Impact of distance learning on women in India

Education is no longer limited to either schooling, college, or the production of entrepreneurs, capable of increasing the gross national products, but rather aims at the development of human resources for a wide range of purposes' (Motilal Sharma).

Distance education has emerged as a boon to women of all ages to equip themselves intellectually through acquisition of knowledge, leading them to new methods of thinking, and alternative ,lateral perspectives on existing information thus rendering then more autonomous and liberated.

Half of our population of our country is consist of women but only near about of them have the employability skills .The main reason of that low employability of the women is low rate of literacy and productivity rate. If the major part of our population or women will be educated it will contribute a lot in the development of their life and families .And it is very necessary for a woman to be educated because women education in India plays a very important role in the overall development of the country. It not only helps in the development of half of the human resources, but in improving the quality of the life at home and outside .Educated women not only not promote education of their girl children, but also can provide better guidance to their children . Moreover educated women can also help in the infant rate and growth rate of the population .Women are the most important point because whole of their families depends on them. whenever any family face days of bad economic condition women are those whose suffer the most because in our Indian culture they are those who take care of the funds by spending the money in proper way and if they are literate then only they are able to effectively utilize the money. women education also play a important role because if women were educated then they are able to do jobs or able to do small scale business from their home as a result of job and

business they will get money which will improve their family income and their economic life and which directly affect the economic growth of our country because if the women will start earning money the national income will also increase The low literacy rate also make a poor and helpless image of the women and because of that the they feel inferior and it is a one of the barrier of women development. If the women will educated and literate they will get the chances of exposure and they will fell that they are equal. The education also help them to understand what are their rights and what laws they have if somebody is exploiting and what actions they are able to take. In the all above given things distance education is providing them the opportunity to study from their home and also get rid of these problems which they have and by this form of education they are able to take care of their families by staying at home and able to study side by side from home because in distance education we does not require to go colleges for the classes daily and now because of distance learning the literacy rate of the women is increasing and because of this they are becoming more employable and are also able to take important decision about their life and now they are raising their voice against their exploitation and also becoming more concern about their health and other things.

Women's Development since 1901 shows the slow growth of female literacy. It was 0.60%, in 1901 and grew slowly to 1.05 in 1911, to 1.81 in 1921, 2.93 in 1931, 7.30 in 1941, 7.93 in 1951, to 12.95 in 1961, 18.69 in 1971, to 24.82 in 1981 39.29 in 1991 and to 53.67 in 2001.

Impact of distance education on poor people or people who are financially challenged
The availability of distance learning courses has certain that a person can pursue education from any state or University. The course fee of these courses is much lower than the regular courses. So it makes distance education favourable educational option for economically disadvantaged or poor people who would otherwise not be able to pay for an education. It's become popular in rural areas because distance education in India is making it easier to secure the educational break between rural and urban areas. You can get an education course from any state in India and from any distant station of the country. So people from rural areas do not have to go through the expense of moving to urban areas for their education. The distance learning system of education is particularly useful in the context of developing countries like India where the college campus cannot accommodate the great crowds of students and where the budget for human resource development is necessarily restricted. Today there are 11 open universities and over 54 distance education institutes available in India that's provide distance education in all states.

HOW IT MAINTAIN BALANCE BETWEEN WORK LIFE AND EDUCATION Higher education is no longer a dream for those who were unable to attend regular class for various reasons. Not all of them were stopped by financial constraint. Some people simply did not live close enough to the learning institutions and transportation constituted a big obstacle. For others, making the schedule was a problem. They usually had family responsibilities and a full-time job to attend to in the same time, and could hardly cope with another commitment. With distance learning, location and time are no longer a problem. No matter where you live and no matter how busy you are, you can set your own schedule and do the learning whenever it is convenient for you. For example in our research we have questionnairewas field by respondents in which we come to know that most of the respondents either they were working people and

women who have to take care of their families all said if they did not have the option of distance education it is not possible for them to continue their education.

Howtechnology is promoting the distance education:

Technology is the process by which humans modify nature to meet their needs and wants. Most people, however, think of technology in terms of its artifacts: computers and software, aircraft, pesticides, water-treatment plants, birth-control pills, and microwave ovens, to name a few. But technology is more than these tangible products. In todays time technology is playing a crucial role in making human life convenient because technology is the usage of scientific techniques to do any work easily and accurately. By using technology in the field of education. Thestudent who belongs to the places which are situated far away from the university or campus area are able to take or gain knowledge by the

use of internet. Even in todays time students are able to give their examinations online through internet., online entrance exams(CAT, MAT etc) by using technology students are able to learn all the things through recorded lecture and by internet they are able to get their information about the curriculum.

The following are the common technologies available for the instructional delivery of distance education courses. 1. Video technologies: Two-way video with two-way audio (also referred to as two-way interactive video). Audio technologies: Two-way audio transmission Internet-based technologies: Internet courses using synchronous (i.e. simultaneous or `real time') computer-based instruction (e.g. interactive computer conferencing or Interactive Relay Chat), and Internet course using asynchronous (i.e. not simultaneous) computer-based instruction (e.g. email, list-serves, and most World Wide Web-based courses). Other technologies: CD-ROM, mixed mode packages (i.e. a mix of technologies that cannot be assigned to a primary mode) and an open-ended `other, specify' category.

As we all know it is not possible for our government to provide regular education to all the students because of lack of funds and infrastructure and because of some other reasons the government come with the solution to provide the distance and that solution is very effective because distance learning is providing education to a large number of people. The distance education is helping in development of our country in many dimensions which are it is making people more literate which is increasing the literacy rate of our country because of increase in literacy rate people are becoming more sensible and they are able to make their decisions in right manner, education to the people of economically weak class also making them more effective and employable because of which they are able earn more money and also us their money in the best way in the way of best investment ,it is also increasing the standard of living of these people and by this the economic development is happening because now the people who were obsolete before or use to earn less amount now they are earning even high because of which the economic condition is also becoming better .The distance education is also making women more selfdependent and making them strong in economic social and political areas now they know what are their rights . It is also helping in the development of people of under develop or backward areas because now they are able to take education through distance learning courses. It is helping in the development of those people who are working or have some other problems because of which it is not possible for them to continue regular education and it is also helping those who are poor and not able to bear the expenses of regular education.

Awareness programme regarding the distance education courses. The courses of distance education should be application oriented so that it will help them in their economic and social empowerment. The course materials should be simple, preferably in regional languages to make women more comfortable to use.. Confidence building and personally building programmes are essential to help women and people from rural areas to overcome resistance in distance learning. Women and weak economicalpeopleshould be motivated and trained to use technology for faster and easier learning. A separate channel for local T.V. and radio must be introduced to promote distance education . Study centres with a library should be opened in each village to facilitate . A recognition is also required for distance education degrees among the educational institutions, employers and in the society.

Conclusion Distance Education is an important milestone in the development of higher education and has great potential to equalize opportunities and take higher education to the door steps of people who are not able to get regular education. It is expected that this school of distance education will lead to empowerment of women especially among rural and tribal women. If the distance learning will grow with this rate and way some day there will be nobody who is illiterate in our country and it will reach at the door step of every one who need it .
