SCOPE This Engineering Instruction describes the procedure for acceptance testing of BTS of CDMA based WLL (ZTE make).

GENERAL A BTS is comprised of Radio Transmitters and Receiver, Antennae and interface to BSC. The BTS may contain one or more transceivers to provide required call handling capacity. A BTS antenna may be omni directional or sectorial. The BTS works under the control of BSC.

TEST OF BTS Initialization tests:

4.1.1 Restart by OMC: Select MENU (in console at BSC) ALARMS -> COMMAND -> RESET BSC/BTS -> Enter BSC/BTS ID -> 4.1.2 Execute. (Wait for 5 minutes). Check that BTS performs normal initialization. 4.1.3 Restart by Hardware reset: Give physical reset to both CCM cards in BTS simultaneously (Wait for 2 minutes). Check that BTS performs normal initialization. 4.1.4 Restart by power ON/OFF: Switch OFF & ON BTS. Check that BTS performs normal initialization.

FAULT HANDLING TEST Timing and Frequency Processor failure including GPS failure - create alarm in FDM, TCM and GPSTM PCBs and check in ALARM MENU of console.

RFS failure processing create ALARM in HPA, RFE and TRX PCBs and observe the ALARM in console. BDS failure processing create alarm in SAM, RFIM, CCM and CHM PCBs and observe the ALARM in console CDSU failure creates alarm in CDSU PCB - break one E1 link - check alarm in ALARM menu of console. FAN Failure Switch off fan and check the alarm. REDUNDANCY TEST CCM Redundancy Give reset to active CCM card (3rd LED from top indicate Active CCM). Verify that no call disconnection during CCM switch over. Link redundancy Disconnect the working stream. See whether call is cut-off. RF CAPACITY IN THE SINGLE CHM CARD Make 15 O/G + 15 I/C calls simultaneously and hold them for 10 minutes. Note : CHM cards in slots 2,3,4,6,7 and 8 are corresponds to first carrier frequency (FA0) and CHM cards in slots 13, 14, 15, 17, 18 and 19 are corresponds to second carrier frequency (FA1). CHM card with 32 ports are called CHM32 and with 64 ports are called CHM64 (with additional child card 020100). BTS with 2 FA configurations are supplied with CHM32 in slot 2 and CHM64 in slots 3,13 and 15 (Total 4 CHM cards). BTS with one FA configuration are equipped with CHM64 in slots 2 and 3 (Total 2 CHM cards). RF capacity test to be conducted with single CHM card in slot 2, also CHM32 can support only 27 voice calls at a time.

RF PARAMETERS OF BTS Tx Power Check Connect power meter through 30 dB Attenuator with a dummy load and increase the power from console by MMC DYNAMIC DTA MANAGEMENT RADIO CONTROL INCREMENT ATTN CONTROL for the particular sector of the BTS.

Check corresponding increases in power meter. Note the steady maximum reading and then bring it to normal. 8.2 Wave Guide Test: Wave-guide test: Check the VSWR of each feeder cable and see that it is below 1.3 for the entire CDMA range (824 to 890 MHz). 9.0 MANUAL SQ Pass 100 WLL to WLL calls in one selected (other than selected sectors Tx in power off condition) sector and observe the quality of speech. 10.0 HAND OFF In 2FA configuration BTS, check the Hand off between cells/sectors of different carrier frequency. 11.0 CONCLUSION The above acceptance test procedure is very important procedure for satisfactory commissioning of CDMA WLL. The BTS should be thoroughly tested and any discrepancy found, should be brought to the notice of the installer for necessary rectification. The above test procedures can also be used by maintenance staff for checking the BTS equipments as routine.
