Traces of Grace
Dear Fellow Parishioners; Just fruit and vegetables will be fine were the words from Fr. Isaac when I asked him what he would like to eat while he was staying with us. When I pressed him, he said, Ok, if you have a little meat that would be fine too. Simple faire to be sure. But as a parish priest in the Peruvian environment, things are more basic and severe. Fr. Isaac is here with us this weekend to share his story of the missions all over the world, but especially in Peru. His appeal is part of our Diocesan support of the missions. May his stay with us be grace filled and as we have in the past, be generous to his plea for assistance. Together in Christ;
Fr. Steve

WOMENS PARISH RETREAT OCTOBER 7-9, 2011 SACRED HEART RETREAT HOUSE Ladies Circle the date on your calendar, in your day planner or wherever you keep track of Important dates to remember. Our retreat with the Carmelite Sisters at the Sacred Heart Retreat house is scheduled for those days. Watch the Bulletin for future details or call Judy Claypool @ 493-6617 for registration and further information. IMPORTANT PLEASE READ FOR YOUR INFORMATION Periodically, and more so of late, we have had gypsies, usually a mother with a small child, seeking money from our parishioners after the weekend Masses. While we have given them food from our Christian Service Outreach (to which they are indifferent), what they want are monetary donations. It is a racket and they prey on parishioners good will. They have been circulating among parishes and other establishments seeking money. We ask that you do not respond to their solicitation for money so as not to encourage their return. It is important to say that we are not turning our backs to the poor; rather we do not wish to condone or encourage their manipulative and sometimes aggressive behavior which is a racket for collecting money.

Gods plan for marriage, from the time he first created human beings as male and female, has always included all this and more. The power to create a new life with God is at the heart of what spouses share with each other. Suppressing fertility by using contraception denies part of the inherent meaning of married sexuality and does harm to the couples unity. Natural methods of family planning involve fertility education that enables couples to cooperate with the body as God designed it.

Charity, Unity, Fraternity, Patriotism It is not a matter of engaging in both the gospel and social action, as if Christian social action was something separate from the gospel itself. The gospel has to be demonstrated in word and deed.. So like Jesus, authentic Christian mission has included good news for the poor, compassion for the sick and suffering, justice for the oppressed, liberation for the enslaved And the heart of the gospel, in all of these areas, is the cross of Christ." --Christopher J. H. Wright Be all you can be for Christ! Assist our ministries who lift up our neighbors in need. SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL The SVDP Conference here at St. Edward the Confessor/San Felipe de Jesus is one of many church ministries. Working in cooperation with the parish's Christian Service Ministry, the Conference's mission is to "lead men & women to join together to grow spiritually by offering person- to-person service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Frederic Ozanam, and patron, Vincent de Paul."
