Cammate Systems Safety Guidelines

Do not operate the Retract crane under or near electrical lines, during an electrical storm and in windy conditions. Do not operate in the rain or unfavorable weather conditions. Use only skilled experienced and trained operators to assemble and operate this crane. Cammate is not responsible to any liability for injuries or damages due to negligence, misuse or improper installation by the crane operator. Follow all safety procedures and read instruction manual.

Preparation
Crane is shipped in a specially designed wood crate. It is recommended a forklift or an approved hoist is used to lift the crane out of the shipping container, otherwise up to 5 male adults may be used. Use extreme caution as not to cause injury to workers and not to damage the crane. Crane must be properly balanced. Do not overload the camera head. Support the crane using proper supports when adding weights/ballast. Refer to installation instructions and figure G. Double check all turnbuckles, bolts, knobs for proper tightness. Weights (ballast) must be properly mounted and secured. Use only properly grounded electrical outlets. Use only on level, solid ground. Flooring must be checked to insure it is capable of supporting the weight of crane, weights and operator. Dolly wheels must be chocked to prevent unintended movement. Thoroughly inspect the area to be used and remove all wires, cables and objects from working area. Objects are not to be placed or stored on the crane.

General Safety Rules to Follow

Avoid abrupt or sudden movements of the crane. Keep fingers and hands free from moving parts. Never attempt to push the crane dolly from the top of the tube. Use caution when individuals are in proximity of crane. Check paths before moving boom. Individuals must not stand under the crane. Do not move crane over wires, cables etc., as it may become unstable and fall. Cammate is not responsible for neglect or unsafe operation of the crane and the dolly. Page 1 of 8

Installation and Operation

1) Unpacking and unloading shipping crate
Remove lid and one side panel (see screws marked with red circle) Carefully lift crane up high enough to clear crate. Fork truck recommended. Crane weight as shipped approximately 196.8 kg. Use proper lifting techniques to prevent personal injury or damage to equipment. Take care not to pinch or pull on cables. Position dolly near center of crane then raise crane high enough to clear center post. Position supports per figure G before continuing drawing page 12 Being sure crane is balanced and level. Position pedestal base over center post on dolly. Align positioning pin over slot then carefully bring crane down close to center post and start thumb screw into threads on bottom of pedestal base see figure F.1 drawing page11 Continue lowering until cranes full weight is resting on the center post. Verify thumb screw is securely fastened (see figure F) drawing page 10

2) Mounting crane on dolly

3) Setting of position monitoring pin; see figure E drawing page 9 4) Install tilt brake assembly; see figures C and C.1 drawing page 7
Install one outer handle knob C1, plastic and metal washers C5, C6 Install two spacer plates C4 Install travel plate C2 with 4 screws -20x3/8 (using screws longer than 3/8 long will damage equipment) Install inside compression nut assembly.C3

5) Install pan brake handle B5; see figure B drawing page 6 6) Install head control box; see figure J drawing page 14
Support Control Box during installation Use four -20 thumb screws to Install four control box mounting brackets. Install mounting bracket using three included 4-40 screws. Install mounting screw through slot in bracket into mounting bracket.

9) Powering up crane (see figure L) drawing page 17

The cranes power switch is located on the side of electronics box (see figure L.1) drawing page 18. Crane is ready to operate when the green light is illuminated. Drawing page 17 If when power is applied the green light is flashing the crane needs to be homed (Verify stands are in place see figure G drawing page 12) Before homing you will need to remove camera from head because the leveling actuator will fully extend, putting a heavy load on the nut inside the actuator. Next press the green button and the crane will start moving. Drawing page 17 The crane will reset all four axes one at a time. Once this is complete the machine should be in home position (see figure G.) and the green light will illuminated. Now it is safe to reinstall the camera. When power is applied and the Blue light comes on, the crane needs to be rebooted. (restarted) This should only happen if there has been a software update or a component inside the electronics box has been replaced. Turn off power wait about 10 seconds turn power back on. Next the green light should be flashing. (See above instructions for homing)

10) Install counter weight mount rods; (see figure M and N) drawing page 18 11) Loading counter weights; (see figure G) drawing page 12
The exact required weights will vary according to camera weight Divide weights equally between the two counter weight mounting rods. Load ballast on operator rod as required. (see figure G) Balancing crane will require extending and retracting crane while exchanging ballast amounts until crane is balanced in any position. The Position Monitoring system determines how the crane electronically monitors axis location during operation. If for any reason one of the axis loses position or balance with one of the other axis, the pin will drop and lock the system in place. (see figure D) drawing page 8 Contact Cammate before attempting to reset the system.
