Technical Skills

Experienced knowledge of photographic, web, and design software including: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive. Familiar with Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Flash. Well-versed in ColorVision Spyder and Optical monitor calibration hardware and software. Very comfortable with both Macintosh and PC platforms. Experienced in CSS and HTML, as well as various FTP programs. Skilled knowledge of 35mm, Medium, and Large format film cameras. Fluent use of digital cameras, film and flatbed scanners, ink jet printers, and color management software and hardware. Knowledge of color printing (RA-4) techniques. Black & white silver printing techniques and the Zone system. Proficiency in studio photography, including lighting, commercial, and creative concepts. Alternative photographic processes including Platinum/Palladium, Cyanotype, Gum Bichromate, Photogravure, Mordancage, and Polaroid processes. Printmaking processes including digital and analog gravure, color separation, monotype, intaglio etching, relief, and waterless and traditional lithography.

INTRO to PHOTOGRAPHY: An introduction to the fundamentals of 35mm black and
white photography, including darkroom techniques, and the history and aesthetics of photography. INTRO to DIGITAL MEDIA: An overview of the digital image tools used in professional image editing, as well as an introduction to the general issues relevant to the handling of images and related art material in the digital context. WEB AND GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR ARTISTS: Explores page layout and design for web and print. It is designed for both the introductory student and the advanced student who want to use web and print to market their own work and themselves as artists; each student produces a self-promotional artists book using Adobe InDesign and a standards compliant website using Macromedia Dreamweaver. ADVANCED WEB DESIGN FOR ARTISTS: Course in which I designed the curriculum and implemented at JSC; this advanced studio art course prepares the artist to use web design creatively for their portfolio and as an interactive art form to present original online work. Students will learn how to plan, organize, and produce a 30-40 page, standardscompliant web site from start to finish with Macromedia Dreamweaver using table-less transitional XHTML with Cascading Style Sheets for style positioning. Class time is also be dedicated to an overview of aesthetics and concepts of web design including usability, accessibility, information design, and graphic design. ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY: Further explores technical, historical and creative issues in photography. Students will generate a strong portfolio through intensive studio work.

Responsibilities include: EXHIBIT DESIGN: Page layout and design for museum panels and exhibit brochures. Custom labels, printing, research, and pre-press including image scanning, retouching, manipulation, and color balancing. Also collaborated with curators, artists, and various skilled craftsmen with achieving creative and technical goals. WEB DESIGN: Learned how to create accessible websites by separating design from content, utilizing Macromedia Dreamweaver and using tableless transitional XHTML with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) for design and positioning. Also incorporated Flash and Javascript, as well as audio and visual features. Designed and created web interfaces and updated numerous client websites on a regular basis. GRAPHIC DESIGN: Designed various brochures, signs, identities, and advertisements.

Assisted the chair of the photography department in teaching undergraduate color photography. Responsibilities included assisting students in all lab periods; taught color films and print materials, Polaroid lifts and transfers, and darkroom equipment and techniques. Prepared and gave lectures on the above and use of artificial and natural lights and filters, as well as photo history, including the major historical processes and the individuals associated with their development. Graded all student assignments and portfolios and assisted professor with paperwork and daily teaching responsibilities.
