The Arts key learning area emphasises active engagement and reection within the following strands:, dance, drama, media, music and visual arts. "Imagination is more important than knowledge." ~ Albert Einstein

How do we do this? Here at Our Lady of Lourdes, the Arts form an integral part of the regular learning experiences of the students. Children are involved in Visual Arts lessons as part of the classroom curriculum. Visiting Artists, members of the school community and visiting companies are invaluable assets utilised throughout the programme. Dance is a major component of the Music specialists lessons and augmented by dance elements in P.E. units. As well asa these learning experiences children in Years 6 & 7 will be exposed to dance drama and performance experiences as part of the School Musical

The Arts Key Learning Area.
The Years 1 to 10 The Arts key learning area encompasses those artistic pursuits that express and communicate what it is to be human through Dance, Drama, Media, Music and Visual Arts. Through these ve distinct and separate disciplines, we develop, share and pass on understandings of ourselves, our histories, our cultures and our worlds to future generations. The arts, separately and collectively, can balance and enrich student experience by fostering unique and signicant skills and understandings. Visual Art Visual Art involves using visual arts elements, concepts, processes and forms (both 2D and 3D) to express ideas, considering particular audiences and particular purposes, through images and objects.

Dance Dance involves using the human body to express ideas, considering particular audiences and particular purposes, through dance elements in movement phrases. Drama Drama involves using dramatic elements and conventions to express ideas, considering particular audiences and particular purposes, through dramatic action based on real or imagined events. For those who wish to extend their music and performance skills private individual instrument lessons in guitar, piano, strings, percussion and wind. Students from the programme, and those learning outside the school, are encouraged to join in concert and rock band performances supervised by school and music staff. The Media strand is accommodated by the inclusion of ICLT lessons for all year 1-7 students. These lessons concentrate on the viewing, construction and publication of various media forms such as print, web based and video and graphic forms of expression. Media Media involves constructing meaning by using media languages and technologies to express representations, considering particular audiences and particular purposes. Music Music involves singing, playing instruments, listening, moving, improvising and composing by using the music elements to express ideas, considering particular audiences and particular purposes, through sound.
