Very pleasant and warm. Went to meeting in Ashland. Staid at home in P.M. & went this eve. Meeting downstairs. Alvah went for first time. Monday 17 Cloudy and damp and rained hard part of P.M. Warm and muddy. Finished fixing my ox slead and chored about. J. Cross came to work for me but went home about 3:00 PM on account of the rain. I helped him an hour or 2 in PM. Cut on hill back old barn. Father and mother went to see Mrs. Felker today. Rev Clark down stairs tonight. Tuesday 18 Cloudy part and very pleasant most of the day and warm and muddy. Chored about some & Jos. & I went up into the pine lot and staid 4 1/2 hrs than came and worked on the back of old barn trimming. J Cross worked there all day. Very pleasant and warm. See to the mail. Let cut work to back of old barn. J. Cross worked after 9 at the chopping. Jos. went to the Providence. Mrs. Shiff's died last night about 10:00 o'clock. Thursday 20 Very pleasant and warm. See to the mail & c. and went to work in the woods about 9 1/2 cutting and sawing the maple on pine lot J. Cross helped. Father came and got me to come down & _?_ boats at noon Jos. been to Boston. Friday 21 Cloudy but very pleasant part the day warm and chilly air. See to the mail and cut & got in a little wood. Went to the funeral of Mrs. Shiffs at 11 A.M. Carried Mrs. Scot to the grave or tomb at Sheldonville about 2 P.M. Went into the woods till night. J. Cross worked there, chopping. Jos. went to measure wood & c.

Saturday, January 22, 1870 Very pleasant and warm. Frost some last night. Worked in the woods cutting and trimming and sawing on home lot - the maple & c. J. Cross helped and Dea. Pond helped 4 hours in P.M. Jos. went to Boston. Sunday 23

Tuesday, January 25, 1870 Very rainy cold N. E. rain storm all day. I carried Jos. W. and Geo. Crooks to Blackstone to take the 8 train for Worcester. Came home through Woonsocket found it very muddy in store some. Fixed a shelf up for Dea Pond and went got school children.. Wednesday 26

Warm and spring like out. Cloudy part of day. Went to meeting in A.M. at ____? in P.M. Rev. J. Merrell preached. Monday 24 Pleasant, part cloudy, part the day, warm. Cut and split some of fathers wood & c. went into the woods a while helped drive up heifers & c & c.

Very pleasant and warm. See to the store and mail. Helped some about the washing. Carried some oak lumber 200 ft to A. J. Newell helped Dea Pond saw on the piece back of old barn an hour or 2. He worked 3 hrs. Jos. came home at night. E. gone to sewing circle tonight. Thursday 27 Very pleasant and warm. Chored about home. Sent letter with $20 to J. C.Metcalf. See to store switch & C. Jos. off measuring wood. Father and mother went to the Mr. Woods in Wrentham. Dea Pond & I sawed & c in back of old barn, 4 hs this PM. This eve I have been to Asa Sargents to meeting.

32 Very pleasant and warm. See to store, mail & c. Went to Franklin to see E. S. Metcalf & Geo. about the lumber. Called and see A. Stockbridge. Cleared up some in lumber yard & c. this P.M. Saturday , 29 Cloudy and began to snow before noon - rain this eve. Cut & got in some of father's wood and cleaned up in AM, at store some. Jos. at Franklin. Snowed a little most of day. Cool. Shod & fixed the horse slead & c. in A.M. & this PM. throwed over the manure under the old barn & throwed some dirt over it and chored about. Cut meat & apples this eve. for pies.
Tuesday, February 1 23 Snowed some part of A.M. but cleared off. Very pleasant and warm before noon. Father & I drawed some wood from the pine lot and two load of logs. Jos. went to Boston to see to ______?. Jos. and I went to Franklin to see E. S. Metcalf about the lumber. He gave a bank note. Went in cars and back Father Metcalf came to stop here.

Pleasant and cool but thawed some. Went to meeting all day with the Sleigh Rev. J. Merrell preached. After meeting went to see Marianna & Jos. Gould, Emeline, GFW & Isabel went with me.

Wednesday, 2 Cloudy most the day and cold. Drawed 1 load of logs and 3 of the wood with oxen and they drawed 4 of wood with horse. Father Metcalf and W. & Jos. worked in the woods part the day Limed out some and sawed some after 11 am till 8 1/2 PM.

Cloudy & cool chill air. Drawed 1 ox load of wood & 3 of pine 6 1/2 logs to circular mill and Father Metcalf & W drawed 4 from load of wood 6 hs . Jos sawed up some Geo. & Isabel here this eve. 6 above Pleasant and cold. Snowed a little when the sun shined This P.M. drawed 3 load of pine logs to mill 1 of long and 2 of short 7 1/2 hs. Jos helped. Sawed up and trimmed off limbs some. Father Metcalf drawed 2 loads of old wood down. This eve I carried Dr. Nolan home Saturday 5 12 Cloudy and snowed over little. Cold. Went to Boston and out to Milton at 1 PM on the O.C.R.R. to the funeral of Mr. Geo Longs Went back to Boston on the B & H R.R. 3 1/2 and home at 8. Friday 4

Cloudy and cool. Went to meeting in the AM & staid at home in P.M.. Rev. J. Merrill preached. I went to Corymans after milk but got none. Monday, 7 8 Very pleasant. Cold morning but warm and thawy most of the day. See to mail store & c and drawed out some poles & a load of sleepers down and 2 loads of logs to mill from the lot back of old barn. Father Metcalf helped in P.M. with the horse load and father carried passenger to diamond hill. Jos. been measuring wood at Allen Newell horse barn. 25 Cloudy and began to snow about 9 A.M. and increased to a very driving storm but I carried load of 5 logs to mill and drawed out 2 load of sleepers & c took up over barn & c & c.. Father Metcalf gone to Mr. Phersons this P.M. The 8 train cars got off the track and staid till 8 1/2 this eve. Cooked Oysters & c. Tuesday, 8

Wednesday, February 9, 1870 Very windy most the day & cloudy part the time. I run & put out part the clothes, then with the oxen went on to the road breaking it out. Went from here by O. _?_ place came home by Hawes. Thursday 10 Pleasant & cold. Worked for Dennis Sullivan drawing out logs from his swamp & 3 load to mill for him with oxen. (Came home to dinner 3/4 hour) & got home at 5 P.M. Friday 11 Very pleasant & cold. See to the store mail & c & chored about some. Went to Woonsocket. Carried to bus. potatoes & got corn meal. Jos went to Boston.

Saturday, February 12, 1870 Cloudy & sprinkled some in AM. Pleasant most of the day. Very warm. Chored about some went into the pine lot and cut a pine & drawed home log from it in A.M. & in P.M. sawed up the rest & carried to mill 3 long logs. Father helped in A.M. and Father Metcalf in P.M. Emeline & Alvah been to Mr. Phersons. Sunday 13 17 above Very pleasant. Cold. Went to meeting in AM & staid at home in PM. Rev. J. Merrill preached. Meeting downstairs this eve. A traveler stoped here this P.M. tonight. 10 Cloudy most the day & cool rains this eve. Helped about the morning some. Chopped in the wood back of barn 5 hrs. Went to J. P. Watkins & got passengers. Jos been to Franklin. I choped some back of old barn & Father helped me saw some logs & drawed down 2 loads. Emeline & Abbie have been in to examination of this high school at Franklin this PM.

Monday, February 21, 1870 33 Stormy morn but cleared off before noon, growing cold. Chored about some choped in woods back of old barn. Mr. Pherson choped 2 hrs. Elvira had the toothache. 4 above Very pleasant & very cold. I sawed a load of 5 ft wood to J. Cavanaugh & drawed out 4 load from back of old barn & choped there some & done the chores. 12 Very pleasant & cold. Worked in the woods back of old barn, chopping . Mr. Pherson choped there 6 hs E. D. Cook finished sawing the loss at the door.. Sold 6 hens to Owen Shield for 4.50.. Wednesday 23 Tuesday 22

Thursday, February 24, 1870 20 Cloudy morn, but very pleasant most the day. Worked in the woods chopping back of old barn. Sawed some. Father helped a while. Jos been to Boston. Friday 25 4 above Very pleasant, cold & windy. Went up to the Rockwood lot and sold E. S. Moses a cord of Chestnut wood for 3.89. Split some of it. Came & choped some on the pierce back of old barn this PM. Drawed J. M. Pherson 4/12 ft from there of hard wood. Then drawed down a load of Frosts & c from the Rockwood lot & for E. S. Moses. Jos been to poor farm. Saturday 26 15 Very pleasant & cool & windy. See to the mail store & c & chored about home in at the A.M. & in PM. choped in mine hill lot. Jos went to Dedham. I went to Dea Whitneys for Dea Pond.

Sunday, February 27, 1870 18 Cloudy & snowed a very little & is this eve. at 8 . Have been to meeting all day & this eve. at P. B. Clarks. Rev. J. Merrill preached. Monday 28 28 Snowed most all day. Fixed the ox slead. Chored about washing & c.. We fixed the ice house or moved saw dust. Drawed a load of 2 logs to mill (sws) from door yard 1 pine to move from the hill. Drawed down 2 loads of poles from the hill. Wednesday, March 1 32 Cloudy part & pleasant part the day, warm or thawed some. Got ice. Mr. Canney, Charlie Harris E. S. Moses & horses. B. F. Cook, B. Foster, Dennis Sullivan helped & moved my oxen & Jos in AM. He went to Franklin in PM and father drove horses. .

Wednesday, March 2, 1870 Very pleasant & cool. Mr. Canney, Chs. Harris & B. F. Cook sawed ice. Helped load in AM & Jos and I packed & father drawed it with oxen & I drawed 1 load in PM. Finished packing about 5 PM than ( went to see Allen Newell at Clarks ice house. He was getting in this eve. Have been to H. B. Millers to a sewing circle. Thursday 3 Very pleasant & cool. Drawed a load of 3 logs to mill from mine hill & sawed up some more & drawed down a load & this P.M. went to Woonsocket & got a load of grain. Carried 2 bus. potatoes. Thelma & Elmer went with me . He had a tooth pulled and I had 2 pulled 6 above Cloudy most the day. Cold morn. Began to snow a little about 6 PM. Drawed a load of 5 logs to mill & drawed down some log poles, sleepers & c. Father helped sawed up some. Friday 4

Saturday, March 5, 1870 Cloudy & snowed a little most of the day. Went to the mill and rolled in some logs. Went to H. C. Pecks to get some milk. See to the Mall Store & c. Jos went to Boston. Went up in the wood & sawed some logs and drawed home 2 loads & carried a load of 8 logs to mill & drawed away the lumber that is sawed. 2 above Very pleasant. Cold day. 2 above. Very frosty morn but warm day. Went to meeting in AM & this eve. at J. W. Clarks Rev. J. Merrill preached. 26 Very stormy driving snow storm. Chored about in morn then went to town meeting. Went & came in the cars. Went to Dr. Stedsons & had a tooth pulled & took an impression to make me same. Monday 7 Sunday 6

17 Very pleasant & warm. Wrung & hung out the clothes & c . Sawed & split wood in old shop. See to mail & store. Jos been to Boston. Father went to Mr. Grants & got the wheel barrow Emeline went to the F. Hancocks this PM. 17 Very pleasant and cold. Cut some wood in old shop. Put lard on the cattle to kill lice. Drawed 2 loads of wood to Asa Sargeant from mine hill lot. Got set with first load & throwed off part and got in this eve. Drawed 2 load of lumber away from mill. 17 Very pleasant AM but cloudy most of PM. Little snow squall most of the PM. Tried the ice in morn found it about 8 inches thick. Dennis Sullivan came & choped for me on mine hill lot, 8 3/4 hs. Choped with him most the day. Emeline & Alvah? went to Hermans visiting Thursday 10 Wednesday 9

Friday, March 11, 1870 Very pleasant morn but cloudy most the day & cool. Worked sawing. Getting in & packing ice most - all day (8 inches thick) Jos helped & chs Harris 5 1/2 hs drawed with my oxen about 85 cakes, 7 load from the Lillie Pond. Saturday 12 Cloudy & cold. Very little snow. See to the mail & store some. Jos at Boston. Dennis Sullivan choped & c. for me on mine hill lot, 8 3/4 hs. We split & sawed off the logs or most of them. Have got it most cut. Sunday 13 A very driving N. E. snow storm. The hardest this year. It snowed & blowed hard all day. Drove into the atic all day. No meeting. I cleared up snow & c. Most. the day in house.

Monday, March 14, 1870 Very pleasant & warm. Worked on the road shoveling snow 8 1/2 hs & had the oxen 5 - hs. The road were very badly drifted by the pond above 10 ft. deep. Tuesday 15 Very pleasant & warm. Cold morn. Worked on the road in A. M. with oxen 3 1/2 hs (went out to O. Adams corner) This PM, have been to Franklin. Got me some fals teeth & hair cut & called at Marianna Sent my watch to No. Wrentham or Norfolk to be cleaned. Wednesday 16 Cloudy & began to storm before noon. Very driving snow & rain storm. Have been in the house most of the day setting up with father.

Thursday, March 17, 1870 Cloudy & stormy part the day. Snow & rain. Cold & windy. Sawed a little wood & looked over accts. with Joseph, & c. Friday 18 Stormy most the day a driving snow storm. Chored about, fixed the sofa cushion chair & c. Cut meet & apples for pies this eve. Saturday 19 Very pleasant & warm. Went to Boston in the 6 AM train & came home at 7 PM. Went to see R. Clark about house rent & c. Went to auction & about.

Sunday, March 20, 1870 Very pleasant & warm. Went to meeting all day & this eve down stairs was the meeting. Rev. J. Merrill preached. Monday 21 36 Foggy & warm. Rained some. Cleared up the old atic some in A.M. & helped about the washing this PM. Drawed down 3 load of Sleepers logs & c. butted some from mine hill lot. 37 Very pleasant & warm. Chored about some rung the clothes & c. Drawed a load of wood to Asa Sargeant. this PM, drawed down 2 load of logs & c from mine hill lot & went to Franklin in cars tonight & had a tooth or root pulled. Emeline been to Boston. Father & mother been to Nathans. Tuesday 22

Wednesday, March 23, 1870 30 Very pleasant most the day but windy. Drawed down 1 load logs, 1 of large, 1 of small wood from mine hill lot, 1 pine log & 1 load of maple from pine lot. Mr. W. Hass choped them this p.m. I cut some this eve. Have been to the sewing circle at J. P. Watkins. Thursday 24 26 Clear but very windy & cold. Trimed out & drawed. Peter Riley a load of wood from pine lot - maple. Some dry oak with it. Father got it, than I drawed down a load & this PM drawed from mine hill lot 2 load. Some large top the hill & the small down to burn with oxen slead. 15 Very pleasant & cold. On loaded a load of small wood. Got the paint things together & chored about some. Went to Woonsocket. Carried bus potatoes & got meal & feed & c. Friday 25

Saturday, March 26, 1870 17 Very pleasant & warm but cold morn. Fixed or put together some ingredients for paint & white wash and white washed the kitchen upstairs at my house. This eve I drawed out 2 load of wood with slead from mine hill lot & carried a load to Mr. Owen Shield with oxen & wagon 3 ft hardwood & 3 chestnut wood. Been to F. Hancocks this eve. Sunday 27 32 Cloudy & began to storm about AM. Snow than turned to rain. Went to meeting all day. Rev. J. Merrill preached. Monday 27 Stormed most of the day. Rain thawy. Mixed some paint & fixed a brush & c, than carted 2 ox wagon load of saw dust out & put in the ice house, than moved out some of Mr. Ponds thingsand painted & c. at the other house till 10 this eve. Jos helped a little.

Tuesday, March 29, 1870 Cloudy & thawy & stormed some. Cut a place in the ceiling & chimney at the other house for a pipe. Cleared up some there & white washed & c & c. there. Jos been to Boston. Wednesday 30 Cloudy & stormy and misty most the day. Worked papering and fixing my house most of the day. At store some. Joseph been to Boston. Emeline helped me paper some. Thursday 31 32 Very pleasant & warm. Went to mill & drawed in the short pine logs with oxen 2 hs. Jos helped, than worked on the papering & c. in my house till 12 o'clock at night. H. B. Miller & Mary helped some & Emeline helped.

Friday, April 1, 1870 32 Very pleasant. Warm AM. Washed some at my house & washed floors & fixed them some. J. P. Gould came in there today moved the goods yesterday. I carried a load of 7 1/2 hs small wood to F. Stockbridge. Drawed the boards from the mill, 2035. Father Metcalf helped went to see J. W. Clark to fix pipe, didn't get him. Saturday 2 Very pleasant misty all day. Warm & muddy. Chored about some. Went & got a man from Franklin to solder the water pipe for my house. Helped him some & carried him back again. Came home by E. Rockwoods & and got some of J. Goulds wood & c He went with me in eve. Carried Rev. Rounds to Franklin.. Sunday 3 Storm all day N. E. snow to rain storm. Mostly, snow. Very damp. No meeting today.

Cleaned up horse barn & fixed it for F. Hancocks weeding teams or horses. Jos went to Boston. Father came home from Milton tonight. This eve, we were to F. Hancocks ___? Hannah Beals came out tonight. Saturday 9 Very pleasant & warm. Chored about house some. Set out some grape cuttings. Went into the Rockwood lot & sawed off 2 or 3 trees. Father helped 1 hour. Helped Dea Pond move down his things & c. This eve went to the ___? carried Hannah Beal & James _?_ to the _?_.

Stormy morn than clear a while & stormy again & is this eve. Got ready &. carried a load of 1190 of hay to H.B.M. with oxen & chored about some this PM. Went to Franklin to get some money of G.F. Metcalf, got 1/3 of it. Got harness fixed Wednesday 6 Stormy all day. Snow & rain. In store some see to mail & store. Jos & Father went to the funeral of ___? Wadsworth of Milton. cut up some old stuff in old shop & c. Went to Parish meeting.

Sunday, April 10, 1870 Very pleasant & warm. Went to meeting all day. Rev. J. Merrill preached. This eve carried ____? & Hannah Beals to Uncle Richardsons. They were here to tea at Mancy Daniels from meeting. Brought home _?_ from meeting. Monday 11 Cloudy & began to storm. Rain about PM & raining quite fast this eve. Rolled in my logs at mill. Jos helped 1/2 hour & I fixed the sink spout at other house. & this PM sawed & trimed some pine in back wood lot that blew down. 2 hs & 1/2 Dea Pond helped. We got wet. Tuesday 12 Cloudy & stormed some. Cleared off. Very pleasant about 3 PM. Carted 3 load of logs to mill, 9 logs 1 pine, 1 birch & 7 oak, 2 load from woods by Rileys & 1 from old barn. Dea helped 4 hrs. Went to Franklin Eva went with me. Carried bus potatoes this eve to M. Weldons. Went to Mr. Phersons.

Wednesday, April 13, 1870 Very pleasant & warm but windy. Drawed a load of 6 logs to mill (5 oak, 1 birch) & carried away & stacked up planks in AM. Dea Pond helped 4 hs - drawed a load pine home this PM. Helped Mr. E. S. Moses load his posts or pole; 3 hs. Thursday 14 Very pleasant & warm. Drawed away 14 a 15 foot lumber from the mill. Father helped. Loaded my posts or poles on the car with Mr. ___? He helped me 1 hs & Jos helped. Brought father's seedling potatoes out of the cellar this PM. Went to the funeral of Abby Daniels, at Dea Whiting, than worked on the Rockwood lot 3 hrs, sawing & triming. Dea Pond helped 2 hs. Father, Metcalf went to Walpole Friday 15 Very pleasant but windy & cool. Worked on the road with the scraper & picking stones. O Barton & Dea Pond worked for me with the oxen 10 or 11 hs. This eve went to Mr. Murray Cooks to see his steers. Wm. Johnson went with me.

Saturday, April 16, 1870 Very pleasant & cool. Stacked up the remainder of our lumber & drawed stones with the oxen from the meadow to stack the garden wall from 11 till 3 PM. Then Mr. Murray Cooks came I traded them to him for _____? of steers, 139 lbs & 125 & went home with him & got _____? & then took the oxen home. O. Barton worked for me.

Cloudy & damp AM & pleasant & warm PM. Drawed the short logs to mill from the Rockwood lot with the horse & Steers A. Barton helped & he beetled the manure for orchard & race meadow & we went to get 1 log from the pine lot.

Wednesday 20 Cloudy most of the day. Rained a little about 4 or 5 PM & eve. Carted pine log to mill with the horse & 5 maple of Fathers with the Steers.. Got 2 from pine lot & 3 by wood pile. I split some wood. See to it. . O. Barton throwed over manure under old bard. Jos & mother went to conference at Medway. Thursday 21 Cloudy & stormed some in PM. Rain rains hard this eve. Carted 5 maple of fathers & 1 maple, 3 chestnut, 2 birch, 2 oak of mine. A. Barton helped some this PM. I with horse, drawed 2 load short pine from pine lot 4 hs & Jos & O.A. Barton sawed up 3 1/2 hs.

Sunday 17 Calf Cold storm or mist most of the day & in the eve. Went to meeting in A.M. Staid at home in P.M. & see to the red cow & calf & c. Father Metcalf came back here tonight. Monday 18 Cold N. E. storm, rains very hard this eve. but little before eve. Helped some about the washing. Went & got some milk at H. B. Millers. Help iron the wheel barrow.. See to the yellow cow & calf. Went to saw mill. Went to Franklin got school children, carried off passengers to M. Tingleys & c & c.

Friday, April 22, 1870 Cloudy most of the day & warm. Carted 2 Bbl flour to Riley & 1 to E. Coryman & 4 load of pine logs to mill with the horse (8 1/2 hs) & sawed up some. E. S. Moses carted 3 load with his horses 4 1/2 hs to Jos & Oriel Irvin Barton . I sawed up & helped load. We helped load & c a lot of cars. Saturday 23 Pleasant most the day & warm. See to store mail & c Jos went to Boston. I cut some wood. Helped shoe the horse & c., carted the lumber. Stocked it up from logs, maple & c. A Barton helped & he helped move Mr. Whitier. Went to Franklin in eve. Sunday 24 Very pleasant & warm most of the day. Went to meeting in AM & staid at home in PM & went to meeting down stairs in eve. Rev. J. Merrill preached.

Monday, April 25, 1870 Stormy most of the AM. Pleasant PM. Worked on the ox plow putting in new handles & c. Carried a load of small wood to Mrs. W. Fisher with the horse. A. Barton cut it & throwed over some manure & c. Called & got $100 . of E. Metcalf this eve. Tuesday 26 Very pleasant & cool. Carted manure & spread on the garden by old shop & plowed it in with the horse. Carted, with steers, manure onto the garden by the house. A. S. Barton helped father carry off some passengers. We spread the manure on garden & plowed it with the horse in AM & in PM he drawed a load of Jos hay to Mr. Pherson with the steers 2 1/2 hs & set out 2 pear trees & he drawed 4 load manure & spread front old barn.

Very pleasant & warm but had a thunder shower about 6 1/2 or 7 PM & is raining now at 9 PM. Plowed Dea Ponds & J. Goulds garden and furrowed it. Dea Pond helped 2 or 3 hs. Carted the stones off the mine hill lot. Dea Pond helped 6 hs. Friday 29 Very pleasant & cool. Planted some peas, beans, cucumbers & early rose potatoes by old shop. Set out some currant bushes got in some wood. Carted a load to Mrs. W. Fisher & c & c. Father got some pea brush. Saturday 30 Very pleasant & cool. Went to Boston in 6 AM train. Came home at 7 PM. Emeline & Elmer went with me. Dea Pond worked 8 1/2 hs. Carted out & spread manure on the grass. Mr. J.Picket was married.

Very pleasant & cool. Went to meeting in AM & staid at home in PM. Mr. Rev. J. Merrill preached. Monday 2 Very pleasant & cool. See to store mail & c.. Jos at Dedham. Helped about washing & c. E. S. Moses plowed for me this PM., back of horse barn, 1/2 an hour from strawberry bed, than on mine hill. I helped some & carted a load of 5 1/2 ft of wood to Dea Pond. Broke wagon wheel & c. Tuesday 3 Very pleasant & warm. Got in some wood of fathers. See to store mail & c. Worked on the farm wagon. Made a new rocker & cross piece & c. Went in the woods & got a bush. Dea Pond worked carting manure picking stones & c. Thursday 5 Very pleasant & warm. Staid at store, see to the mail & c. Fixed the horse wagon in AM. Drawed away & stuck up the short pine boards at mill. Dea Pond & Father Metcalf helped 2 1/4 hs. Planted the last of garden by old shop. Dea P. carted & laid out manure & c & c. Friday 6 Very pleasant & warm. Planted some potatoes (early red) in garden by house. See to store, mail & c. White washed siting room. Chored about. Saturday, May 7, 1870 Cloudy most the day & rained a little in PM. Dea Pond worked for me 6 hs. Harrowed the pine lot on mine hill. I got off some stones & fixed the fence. He drawed 3 load of manure to brook meadow lot. I planted some sweet corn. I used the seed & beans in garden. Set out _____? Grafted 3 stocks of pears. Put up some potatoes. Sunday 8 Cloudy & warm. Went to meeting in AM & staid at home in PM. Rev J. Merrill preached. S. S. Concert at 6 PM at the meeting house. F. Hancock had the horse to go to Bellingham tonight. Monday 9 Cloudy & stormy. Some mist. N. E. storm with but little rain. Helped about the washing some. White washed the kitchen, bedroom, & stairway. Put up some potatoes. 8 bushel carried to Woonsocket this PM. Wednesday 11 Rained most of AM & some this PM. Cool N. E. storm. Set out some strawberries. Put up some potatoes & c. Drawed a load of 3 9/12 ft of wood to J. McPherson with steers. Bought some trees & strawberry plants. Thursday 12 Pleasant most of the day but had a shower about 7 1/2 PM & eve. Set out some trees. Rung the clothes. Carted a load of hay from horse barn to old barn at store some. Jos at Woonsocket & Franklin. Dea Pond drawed manure 5 1/2 hs this PM.

Saturday 14 Very & pleasant & warm. Rolled the mine hill piece. Harrowed & raked in the hay & oats by my house. Set some currant bushes out there/ Cut up some pea brush. Dug up some trees in garden. Set out side of R. R. Plowed the little piece by race meadow & c. Dea Pond carted manure 10 hs with steers by the brook meadow. Some by race meadow. Sunday 15 Very pleasant & very warm. Dea Pond & Will Johnson finished mowing the swale front of old barn & trimed to the orchard front of old barn. I finished mowing it with the horse. We raked & tumbled up the hay & pitched off the load of hay this eve. I mowed part the piece back of horse barn. Emeline went to Boston & ___? in P.M. Father carried off a passenger. Tuesday, July 12, 1870 Cloudy & began to rain about 5 AM, but not much after 9 AM. Helped shoe the horse & made 2 machine sections & took away a load of hay. Mowed the further side of piece back of old shop with the horse & finished all the swale & raked it into beds. Will Johnson commenced work about 10 AM & Dea Pond worked in PM. Owen Wales & wife called here tonight. Wednesday 13 Very pleasant & very warm. Mowed most the piece front of old barn beyond the swale. Had N. Hawes horse 1 1/4 hs & Will Johnson mowed some in the swale. There we opened & turned the hay, got in 3 large load. Father Richardson, 2 load & Jos helped rake 3/4 hs. He went to Boston. Thursday 14 Very pleasant & very warm most the day. Had a little shower about 5 AM. Finished mowing front of old barn & went & mowed 2 pieces for N. Hawes 3 1/2 hs. Will Johnson mowed some & we got in 4 load of hay. Jos helped some & I mowed some; this eve. Broke a casing on machine in morn.

This eve, Will, Emeline & I went to Franklin to Uncle Richardsons. Wednesday 3 Very pleasant & warm. See to store mail & c. Jos & Father been to Boston & Will Johnson started for home. Peter Riley pitched off a load of oats than worked in the ditch & carted down a load of wood & carted a load of chips to Dr. Boscom. Thursday 4 Very pleasant most the day & warm. Had very little rain showers after 4 PM. Drawed a load of wood down with steers Put up & carried E. Coryman 19 bus. old potatoes. Cut & got in a little wood & chips & chored about. Father went after Mrs. Scot & he carried passengers to Wrentham.

Friday, August 5, 1870 Very pleasant & warm. Churn & chored about. Went & got some turnip plants & set out some this eve. Went & got a few black berries. Drawed down 1/2 a cord of wood. Mr. Pherson cut & c. Saturday 6 Very pleasant & warm. Set out & watered a bed of webster turnips. Pulled the peas & some beans & chored about. I went into the water this eve. Very pleasant & very warm. Helped about the washing & c took down the bed in the atic. Took out the old watering tank at old barn & helped & put in a new one. Cleared out the spring in the meadow. Pulled a few beans. Tuesday 9 Very pleasant & very warm. E. D. Cook here sawing wood. I sold to Mr. Fisher 1 6/8 cds. E. Coryman worked 9 1/4 hs sawing & cutting old wood at door. I chored about some went & got a load of 5 1/12 ft. small wood split & got in some of my wood. Wednesday 10 Very warm & pleasant AM. Thunder showers in PM. E. Coryman 8 3/2 hs split & sawed wood. Jos went to Boston. I see to store mail & c & father & I set 2 tires on beech wagon & 4 on farm wagon & c.

Stormy most the day or cloudy. Finished nailing & triming the tires. Went to get some turnip plants & set out & c. Friday 12 Cloudy part the day & pleasant part. Very warm. Thunder showers about 5 PM. Churned & split & got in some wood & chored about. E. Coryman sawed old wood, 9 hs. Saturday 13 Very pleasant part & cloudy part the day. Had a hard shower about 7 1/2 & later this eve. See to store mail & c. Split some wood. Fixed fence side of J. Goulds garden. Carried Mr. Whitiers organ over & c. Jos went to Boston. E. Fixed the fence back of old shop & turned the cattle in there. See to store mail & c. Jos at Mr. Phersons. Aunt Patty broke her leg this morn. I carried this eve. some chairs to Ms. Whitney. Emeline & Hannah went with me. Tuesday 16 Very pleasant & cool. Went to see Aunt Patty. Is quite comfortable this morn. Fixed fence some. Fixed the wagon some. Loaded a load of wood & this eve. carried it to Mrs. Fisher.

Fixed or made some stuff for whitewash & whitewashed the atic chamber and fixed some springs on the bed. Went to Mr. Phersons. Dea Pond thrashed. I helped some at store some & c. Thursday 25 Very pleasant & very warm most the day cloudy & lightning this eve at 9 1/2. Rains this eve. at 9 3/4. Emeline & I prepared the attic chamber. Chored about some. Took away oat straw. Dea Pond finished thrashing them today, 6 hs. Been to Mr. Phersons this eve.

Very pleasant & cool. Little frost. See to mail & c., in AM., made a bridge in race meadow & carted the sods into a pile from side the ditch. Jos mowed in his meadow. I helped put up 11 cans of our pears. Friday 9 Very pleasant & cool. Churned & chored about. Got in to the old shop alot of chips. Father helped some. Went at noon & moved Aunt Patty from a chair to bed. Helped drive Jos cattle from our apples &c & c. This eve. drawed off a lot of vinegar.

Very pleasant & cold. Staid at Johns last night. Went to meeting at the Methodist in AM & in PM at the Othodox. Took tea at Alvahs. Started for home at 5 PM. Monday 12 35 Very pleasant & cool frost this morn. Picked some pears & squashes, mellons & apples & c. Helped about the washing. I went to Mr. Pherson's twice. Took the beech wagon to Mr. J. Bemises to varnish. Father & mother went to Uncle Nathans.

Jos. cow got out - 3 or 4 times into ours & got choked Worked on her for 3 hrs, she got up. Thursday 15 Very pleasant & warm. Went & got wagon of Jos apples & unloaded my maple lumber to Jos. Clark. Went with horse & oxen. Elmer drove the horse, 4 load. This PM went to Woonsocket to the fair, mill & C. Emeline came home.

Cleared up the horse barn & & c. Saturday 17 N. E. storm, but little rain fell, but misty & some rain. Picked 2 bus. apples. Sawed & split the old wood in old shop & chored about - Fixed horse barn floor some. Sunday 18 Cloudy most of the day & very windy, damp morn, but not much of any rain. Staid at home. Have a very bad cold. No meeting here today.

Monday 26 Very pleasant & warm. Worked on the water pipe & force pump to get the water to run & got it about 2 PM. Helped about the washing. Picked a few apples & c & c. Tuesday 27 Very pleasant & warm. Sold some 3 trees of apples. A Goss for $8. Picked the apples, beyond swale back old shop, 3 bushel. Strained some grapes for jelly. Put up 1 1/2 bushels potatoes & went to Woonsocket this PM & to Blackstone & see Dea Pond, Emeline, & Alvah went with me.

Goss picked his apples 1 1bls. Father carried them down there this eve. I made a little cider this eve. Father carried off some flour, passengers & C. Thursday 29 Foggy morn & cloudy most the day & warm. Picked the green side the road & read apples front old barn. Made a little cider. Went 1 1/2 hs & got a few chestnuts. Stored some peaches this eve.

Dea Pond worked digging 8 hs. - E. Coryman 2 1/2. Thursday 20 Began to storm about 9 AM & rained hard most the day & this eve. loaded a load of 28 bushels, apples & carried to mill & Dea Pond carted a load with the steers, 4 hs. Cleared up some in the shop to fix for J. Gould. He helped some. Friday 21 Pleasant & warm. Went to get some lumber at mill for shop & worked on it. Churned this eve. Went to John Hoags. He was gone. Father went to get 3 casks of cider.

Have about 115 bushels. Worked fixing the shop some. Dea Pond & Emeline went to the conference at Medway. Thursday 27 28 Very cold & pleasant AM, but cloudy PM & a little rain. Looked over the oak lumber I sold to F. Follett.. Carted home our old pine boards & got some ready & carried to Franklin & got plained & matched for. Carried passengers to Mr. Cooks this eve.

Thursday, November 24, 1870 Thanksgiving. Pleasant part & cloudy part the day, cool. John Hoag worked on the cellar doors & c. I helped him some. Went to Chs. Wales & got some of his tools. O. Shields with our horse, carried Mrs. Scott back to N. Wrentham. Father carried off passenger. Uncle Nathan, Hermon & his folks here or downstairs. Friday 25 Very pleasant & warm. I helped make a hinge for cellar door & mortared up some & chored about. Carried a trunk to A. J. Newells. Saturday 26 Stormy AM & pleasant. Part of PM warm. Chored about. Sorted some apples. Mortared up in the cellar some. Cleared up old barn some at store some. Jos at auction, L. Adamses

Sunday, November 27, 1870 Very pleasant & warm. Went to meeting all day & this eve. at Asa Sargeants, Rev. J. Merrell preached. Monday 28 Very pleasant & warm. See to the store mail RR & c. Jos at Providence. Helped about the washing some. Sorted some apples & & c. This eve. went to J. Towers to see about loading cars. Tuesday 29 Cloudy & rained a little. Warm. Helped J. Tower load lumber 2 cars in AM. J. Hoag worked here. Fixed the hay scales & on the house a little. I helped him some in PM & see to store mail, & c.

Wednesday, November 30, 1870 Very pleasant & warm. Heet water & got ready & Albert Newell killed the hog. I helped some. Sorted a few apples. J. Hoag worked til 10 AM on house. Bought a heifer. This eve at sewing circle at J. Cannerys. Thursday, December 1 Very pleasant & warm. Cut out the hog (379 lbs) & salted my half. Picked over a few apples. Went up & looked over the pine lot with father. Friday 2 Very pleasant & warm. Helped about the lard. Cut it up & strained it & c. Sorted & carried some apples down cellar.

Saturday, December 3, 1870 Cloudy part & very pleasant PM. Cool. Churned an hour & father churned a long time, but didn't come yet. I made J. Goulds a pig pen & see to the mail & c. Jos at Boston & went to Woonsocket this PM. Emeline & Mrs. Gaskell went with me. John & Sarah here tonight. Father carried off passengers. Sunday 4 Very pleasant most of the day & warm. Went to meeting in AM & this eve. downstairs, Rev. J. Merrell preached. John went home this morn. Monday 5 Very pleasant part & cloudy toward night & warm. Helped some about the washing. Carried N. Hawse's sausage cutter home. Fixed a pig pen for J. S. Gould Sold my steer to to Chs W. Tingley

for $119. Weighed 1965 lbs. Carted 4 load of gravel into meadow. Made cider this eve.

Tuesday, December 6, 1870 Cloudy most the day & stormed some. Warm. Made a little cider. Cleared up some by the house & c & c. Carried Mrs. Whitier home this eve. Wednesday 7 Pleasant & warm. Made some cider. Helped fix ox wagon. Went to Franklin in PM with Emeline, Sarah & Melana. Loaded a load of chips tonight. Thursday 8 Cloudy & stormed most of the day. Rain, warm. Snowed this eve a little. See to mail store RR. & c. Jos at Boston. Fixed a rack for J. P. Gould & a bench in his shop.

Friday, December 9, 1870 Very pleasant & cool. Worked in the shop some. Fixed a log cutter, a table leef, bench & c. Made some cider. Carried a load of chips to Mrs. Whittier. Pulled the flat. Turnips & dug the dahlies. Mixed the sausage meet. Went to F. Boscoms & got some sage. Mary Biscom here to tea. Saturday 10 Very pleasant & cool. Fixed my wood saw. Wheeled a lot of dirt from chip yard to fix fence. Made cider c & c. Sunday 11 Cloudy & some mist part the day. Cool storms. this eve. Went to meeting in AM. Staid at home this PM. Rev. J. Merrell preached. J. P. Gould had the horse to go after Dr. Nolan for Irvine.

Monday, December 12, 1870 Stormy most of the day. Rain, warm. Drawed off some cider. Helped about washing some, at store some. See to the mail. Jos at Franklin. Made some cider & c & c. Went to Dea Whittiers & bought 2 heifers. Tuesday 13 Stormy most the day & warm & cleared off warm in PM about 4. Made some cider. Carted gravel away from back the house. Went & got 2 heifers of Dea Whittiers for $40. Wednesday 14 Cloudy part the day. Stormed some. Cleared off in PM. Warm. Cooler ____? Made some cider. Went to Franklin with Alvah.

Thursday, December 15, 1870 Pleasant, but cold & very windy. I helped Jos Gould fix his shop pipe. Went after the heifer a long time before found it. Made a little cider & & c. Alvah & wife & _____? went to Uncle N. & Richardsons. Back this PM. Friday 16 Very pleasant, but very cold & windy. Chored about. Carted 4 in 5 load of dirt from door yard under old barn. Alvah here in morn & this eve. Saturday 17 14 above Very pleasant & cold. Carried Mrs. Hancock to Mrs. Geo Deans. Finished sawing & splitting the cord of wood for Mrs. Fisher & carried down there. Peter rode home with me. Alvah & his folks went home this AM.

Sunday, December 18, 1870 Pleasant & cold & very windy. Went to meeting in AM & this eve. at Dea. Whitings. Rev. J. Merrill preached. Monday 19 Very pleasant & cold. Helped about the washing some & chored about. Fixed pen & gave the pigs a mess & got up a load of old wood & c. Got the wagon & roll of corn. Put up & carried to G. Hancock 8 lbs potatoes. Tuesday 20 The ground white with snow this morn. Rained & snowed in the night & damp AM. Warm & pleasant PM & muddy. See to store mail & c. Carted a load lumber to J. Newell. Made little cider. Boiled down 5 gallons. Sold bbl apples & c & c. Cars.

Wednesday, December 21, 1870 Very pleasant & cool. Thawed some. Chored about some. Put up some apples & c. & went to Woonsocket in PM. Father carried passengers to Wrentham. Thursday 22 12 Very pleasant & very cold . Got ready for & Chs Heaton came & killed our heifer, 48 lbs. I went to Franklin. Got harness mended. Got some cloth & c. Carried Emeline & Marianna to Uncle Richardsons & went after them & c & c. This eve. went to meeting. Friday 23 Very cold & stormy. Snow most all day, but little snow fell. I see to the mail store & c. Jos at Boston. Carried beef to Nathan Hawes & Asa Sargeant. Cut alot of squash & c & c.

8 Very cold & pleasant. Been most sick with a cold. Chored about. Cut out the beef & salted it & looked over accts. some. Sunday 25 At 8 AM 1 above 0 Very cold & pleasant Staid at home all day. Have a bad cold & a bite on my wrist. Rev. J. Merrell preached. Monday 26 16 above 0 Cloudy most the day & cold. Cleared off before night. Helped about the washing & shoeing the horse & c. Drawed down load of wood from back of old barn & 1 load of father's from woods.

14 Very pleasant & cold Split some wood. Cleared up the lot back of old barn (or mine hill lot) 2 load & got 1 load from Rockwood lot of old chestnut poles. Carried 1 load of 5 3/12 ft to Mrs. Whitier. Wednesday 28 Cloudy & began to snow before noon. Warmer. Split & cut some wood. Carried a load of 4 9/12 ft wood to Mrs. Whitiers. Helped father fix a bill hook & fix the wedges & make a beetle & c. Thursday 29 Snowed & blowed or a driving snowstorm (most) all day. Got the sleigh out & father carried the children to school. I staid at store some. See to mail & Jos went to Franklin. Fixed the shop some. Cleared up barn some & c & c. Helped grind a

new billhook & the axes. This eve cut meet & apples for pies.

Friday, December 30, 1870 2 below zero Very pleasant & very cold morn. 2 below at 7 1/2 AM. Is snowing now at 9 3/4 PM. Chored about. Carried the children to school. Shoveled paths at store some. Looked over accts. with father. Sawed some wood & c & c. Saturday 31 34 above Very pleasant . Warm Went to Boston in the 6 18/ AM train & came home at 7 PM. Has thawed very much today. I bought a large dictionary. Oil cloth for carpet, spring bed bottom & c & c. Sunday, January 1, 1871 Very pleasant most of the day. Hazy awhile about noon & cold. Went to meeting in AM. Rev. J. Merrell preached. Meeting at Mancy Daniels this eve. Emeline has gone.

Memoranda Sweet Apple Pickle 7 lbs fruit 1/4 not peared 1 gal vinegar, 3 lbs sugar boiled down 1/2 spiced with whole cloves, scold the fruit - 1st in water + 2d in syrup.
