WOMENS PARISH RETREAT OCTOBER 7-9, 2011 SACRED HEART RETREAT HOUSE Come to me all who labor and are heavy burdened, and you will find rest for your soul. A weekend away from all our modern distractions and noise may be just what your soul needs. Spend some quiet time in the beautiful setting of the Sacred Heart Retreat House with the Carmelite Sisters. We carpool from St. Edward. For more information please call Judy Claypool @ 4936617 or Val Mellon @ 489-8378. IMPORTANT PLEASE READ FOR YOUR INFORMATION Periodically, and more so of late, we have had gypsies, usually a mother with a small child, seeking money from our parishioners after the weekend Masses. While we have given them food from our Christian Service Outreach (to which they are indifferent), what they want are monetary donations. It is a racket and they prey on parishioners good will. They have been circulating among parishes and other establishments seeking money. We ask that you do not respond to their solicitation for money so as not to encourage their return. It is important to say that we are not turning our backs to the poor; rather we do not wish to condone or encourage their manipulative and sometimes aggressive behavior which is a racket for collecting money. TWO HEARTS PRAYER GROUP FRIDAY AUGUST 5TH 9:15 A.M. TO 10:15 A.M. We invite you to join us as we sing and pray before the Blessed Sacrament, the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet asking Jesus and Mary to fill us with their LOVE. Are you looking for some way to give back? Then this ministry may be a good fit! There are many folks who are able to attend Mass but cant get here without a ride. Faith in Action offers rides, assistance with shopping for groceries and other chores that we all take for granted. If you have a seat available in your car when you come to Mass or some spare time to assist someone with these tasks, call Ellen Loretta at (949) 290-5441 or email ellenloretta@hotmail.com. THE ADORATION SOCIETY INVITES YOU To make a special commitment to come and spend one hour a month (or every other week) as a People of God on the 1st. and/or 3rd. Mondays of the month. To come and worship with our Eucharistic Lord in the Exposed Blessed Sacrament during our 24-hour Adoration. To pray at a consistent hour for Vocations to the Priesthood & Religious Life, and to pray for your Family and Peace in our world. To a spiritual work full of faith, hope and love - contemplative prayer. Please email Deana Progar at dprogar@cox.net to sign up or call 525-7092.

A hearty group of St. Edward parishioners welcomed summer by "Gleaning for God" with Second Harvest on June 25th in Mr. Schroeder's family-owned fields. We gathered at St. Ed's for donuts and scripture reading, then we carpooled to the field in Santa Ana where we picked crops which were distributed to needy folks in Orange County. In just two hours time our group picked 8,000 pounds of juicy Valencia oranges! Great job, gleaners! Thanks for your generosity, Mr. Schroeder! Gloria Fetta, Family Ministries.

Charity, Unity, Fraternity, Patriotism Gods reign is already present on our earth in mystery. When the Lord comes, it will be brought to perfection. That is the hope that inspires Christians. We know that every effort to better society, especially when injustice and sin are so ingrained, is an effort that God blesses, that God wants, that God demands of us. - Archbishop Oscar Romero Work to better our society and prevent injustice in our neighborhoods by supporting our local service providers: St. Edwards Christian Service and St. Vincent de Paul, Welcome INN, and iHOPE! SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL "In serving the sick, you should have God alone in view. You should not be too lenient and condescending when the sick refuse to take remedies or become too insolent, yet you must beware of showing either resentment or contempt in your demeanor toward them. On the contrary, treat the sick with respect and humility, remembering that all harshness and disdain, as well as the services and the honor you render them, are directed to Our Lord himself."Frederic Ozanam: Founder, Society of St. Vincent de Paul HELP US HELP OTHERS STEPHEN MINISTRY Christ Caring for People through People.
