The aluminum division's product range includes alumina chemicals; and primary aluminum ingots, billets, wire rods, rolled products, extrusions, foils and alloy wheels. The copper division produces copper cathodes, continuous cast copper rods and precious metals. It also provides sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, di-ammonium phosphate, other phosphatic fertilizers and phospho-gypsum. Aditya Birla Nuvo is engaged in the business of garments, viscose filament yarn, carbon black, textiles and insulators. The company is also involved in life insurance, mutual funds, equity advisory and investment

management, application development, maintenance and enhancement solutions, customer relations management (CRM), integrated marketing services, knowledge process outsourcing, non-life insurance advisory and broking services, and apparel retail and exports businesses. Aditya Birla Retail owns and operates a chain of retail stores under the brand more with two formats, supermarket and hypermarket. Its supermarkets offering fruits and vegetables, groceries, personal care, home care, general merchandise and a basic range of apparels. Currently, there are over 640 more supermarkets. It operates hypermarkets under the brand name more. Tanfac Industries is a joint venture company promoted by the Aditya Birla Group and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO). The company manufactures and supplies chemicals such as aluminum fluoride, anhydrous hydrogen fluoride and sulphuric acid. The fluorine based chemicals are applied in industries such as aluminum smelting, petroleum refining, refrigerant gases, steel re-rolling, glass, ceramics, sugar, fertilizers and heavy water. Its specialty chemicals are used as intermediates in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals drugs and agrochemicals. Aditya Birla Group's subsidiary, Essel Mining & Industries, is an iron ore mining company that produces noble ferro alloys. The company s products include calibrated iron ore lump, inputs for steel making through DRI / BF process, and iron ore fines, inputs for sinters and pellets, used for making steel. In January 2011, the company entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Atlanta-based Columbian Chemicals Company, from One Equity Partners, the merchant banking arm of J. Grasim Industries Limited (Grasim), a subsidiary of the Aditya Birla Group, is a diversified company. It produces viscose staple fiber (VSF), cement, chemicals and textiles. VSF and cement are the company s core business constituting approximately 90% of its total revenue.The company primarily operates in India. It is headquartered in Birlagram, India and employed 6,636 people as of March 2010. The company recorded revenues of INR217, 104.8 million ($4,583.1 million) during the financial year (FY) ended March 2010, an increase of 6.8% over FY2009. The net profit of the company was INR30, 955.3 million ($653.5 million) in FY2010, an increase of 41.6% over FY2009. Grasim, a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, operates in the construction material, textiles and chemical sectors. The company is one of the largest private sector companies in India. Grasim operates through four business segments: cement, fiber and pulp, chemicals and textiles. In May 2009, the company sold its sponge iron business. The cement segment produces grey cement, ready-mix concrete, and white cement. As of June 2009, it had a combined capacity of 25.7 million tpa (tonnes per annum) of grey cement, 6.8 million cubic meters of readymix concrete, and 560,000 tpa of white cement. The company operates 11 composite plants, 11 split grinding units, five bulk terminals and 69 readymix concrete plants across India. The company's grey cement units are located at Jawad in Madhya Pradesh, Rawan in Chhattisgarh, Shambhupura and Kotputli in Rajasthan, Malkhed in Karnataka, and Reddipalayam in Tamil Nadu. All the plants are located close to sizeable limestone mines and are fully automated. The company sells grey cement and ready-mix concrete in India under the brand names Birla Plus, Birla Super and Birla Ready Mix concrete. It sells white cement under brand Birla White. In addition, this segment produces and markets UltraTech cement brand under the Aditya Birla Group logo and also nurtures regional brands such as Vikram Cement and Rajashree Cement.

Viscose Staple Fiber (VSF) is the primary product of the company s fiber and pulp segment. VSF is a man-made biodegradable fiber with characteristics similar to cotton.VSF is widely used in apparels, home textiles, dress material, knitted wear and non-woven applications. The company primarily operates three VSF plants located at Nagda in Madhya Pradesh, Kharach in Gujarat and Harihar in Karnataka, with an aggregate capacity of 333,975 tpa. The Nagda unit produces a range of VSF to suit customer requirements in terms of length, denier and color and also second and third generation fibers such as modal and solvent spun fibers, respectively. Nagda also produces spun-dyed specialty fiber. The Harihar unit manufactures both VSF and rayon grade pulp, the basic raw material for VSF production. The company's rayon grade plant produces rayon pulp with an oxygen bleaching process. In addition, Grasim s AV Cell and AV Nackawic unit in Canada, an overseas joint venture, supplies dissolving grade chemical pulp to the company's VSF units in India, Thailand and Indonesia. Grasim is also the producer of sodium sulphate, a by-product of VSF manufacture. This chemical is used in the paper and pulp, detergent, glass and textile industries. The chemical segment of Grasim produces rayon grade caustic soda to support its VSF production (rayon grade caustic soda is an important raw material in VSF production). The company operates a 258,000 tpa capacity caustic soda unit at Nagda. The unit also produces bleaching powder used in water purification, sanitation and as a bleaching agent; poly aluminum chloride used in water treatment, paper sizing and effluent treatment; and chloro sulphonic acid, used in vinyl sulphate, the raw material for dyes and intermediates, saccharin, drugs and pharmaceuticals. Through the wholly owned textile subsidiary, Grasim Bhiwani Textiles Limited, Grasim manufactures fabrics and synthetic yarns under Grasim and Graviera brand names. Its textile plants are located at Bhiwani (Haryana) and Malanpur (Madhya Pradesh).

Fabric operations are centralized at Bhiwani with a processing capacity of 17 million meters a year, while the Malanpur unit manufactures worsted dyed yarn spun from 100% merino wool along with polyester and other blends.The company markets its textile products through a nationwide retail network comprising of exclusive showrooms, wholesalers and multi-brand outlets. Grasim also exports its textile products to the US and the UK for manufacturing of garments.
