Work Undertaken that Best Illustrates Capability to Handle the Tasks Assigned Name of assignment or project: IRRI-implemented Sustainable Soil Management for Food Security of Poor, Marginal and Small Farmers of Active Flood Plain and Charlands of Bangladesh (SUSFER) Year: January - May 2011 (5.0 months) Location: Bangladesh Client: International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) Main project feature: increase food, nutrition, and livelihood security of 20,000 farmers by increasing food production and food security from agriculture through improved soil productivity, crop diversification, and nutrition Positions held: Consultant, SUSFER Activities performed: Transfer of Technology and imparting training to Field Staff and the Members of the Groups of the SUSFER Project of IRRI at 20 Upazilas of 11 Districts at Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Serajgonj, Pabna, Jamalpur, Faridpur, Manikganj, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Chandpur and Bhola. About 800 Groups have been formed with 20000 farmers in the most vulnerable flood prone areas of the Country. The Project aims at improving the soil fertility, use of balanced fertilizers, developing cropping systems for the beneficiaries with a view to improve the food and nutrition and also improving quality of life of the population living at the most disaster prone areas at the river banks of Dharla, Teesta, Padma, Brahmaputra, Jamuna and Meghna. Work Undertaken that Best Illustrates Capability to Handle the Tasks Assigned Main project features: Hortex involves in development, promotion and marketing of exportable horticulture produces, particularly high value, non-traditional crops to high-priced non-conventional international market. Positions held: National Production Specialist / Team Leader Activities performed: Production Management of Fresh Produce like French Bean, Baby Corn, Broccoli and various Asian Vegetables , Cut Flowers and Live Ornamental Plants through Entrepreneurs & NGOS through contract farming for export. We have success stories in the promotion of export of Fresh Produce to up-stream market of Europe through NGO like Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) & other 18 entrepreneurs involved in export to Europe, Middle East, Singapore etc. with our Technical Assistance. As the Team Leader, I was assigned to Coordinate the work of all National & International Consultants of the project. I coordinated all training program, marketing & production missions at home & abroad. I was responsible for the procurement and production of French Bean and other seeds required for the Project implementation for 5 years 4 months. We made several trial shipments of Cut Flowers and Live Ornamental Plants to Holland and Middle East. My report is a reference book on the determination of strategy of local potatoes in the Country. Name of assignment or project: Rangpur Dinajpur Rehabilitation Service (RDRS), Bangladesh Year: March 1977-March 1985 Location: Bangladesh Client: RDRS Main project features: Improving quality of life for the poor farmers in the community, through round the year crop production like Rice, Wheat, Pulses, Oil seeds, Potato, Vegetables (Summer & winter), through members of Cooperative Societies and Small Farmer Group & Contact Farmers at the remote villages. Small farmers with land holdings from 0.50 acres to 3 acres were the target group. Administrator as the Coordinator had to effectively run the various projects and activities by involving grass root to mid level staff members. Involved in private sector development, micro-credit, gender equality, group dynamics, community development, institution building (small groups and cooperatives), infrastructure development (road, bridges, culverts & development of primary schools), Disaster management like flood & draught. Planned Family, sanitation and hygiene was taken care or for the target people in my programme (RDRS, Agriculture Programme, Nilphamari, Thakurgaon and Lalmonirhat Districts. Environment development with Manual Pumps (Treadle Pumps), Shallow Tube-wells, Deep Tube-wells & Low lift pumps (LLPs). Horticulture (Orchard Development). Tree Plantation (social forestry and road side plantations); Poultry and Livestock development. Fishery development; Bee keeping, Sericulture and Ericulture were part of the project. For the Project work, was responsible for the procurement and distribution of all seeds like of rice, wheat, potato, vegetables, mustard seeds for the different Programmes. Produced the required seeds for the RDRS Agriculture Programme.
