The people are the pillars of strength in any organization. So the task of employee welfare has been taken up with commitment and imagination at the Jindal Organization. Jindal were amongst the first to introduce free housing, subsidized meals, free transport, medical benefits and recreational and other facilities for workers in the Hisar industrial belt. Such trend-setting efforts, however, have not been confined to its factories. Jindal has also worked for the welfare of the community at large. Wherever Jindal sets up base, it makes true the aspirations of the towns it owns. This is especially true in the areas of education, health and infrastructural facilities. N C Jindal Public School, New Delhi; the 500-bed N C Jindal Hospital, Hisar; Vidya Devi Jindal School, Hisar; Jindal High School, Vasind, OP Jindal Institute of Technology, Raigarh are some examples. Another milestone in the field of community development was accomplished when, on 19th December 1998, Adult Education classes were started in Berhana village near the SAW Pipes Ltd. (Kosi Kalan).

At the time independent Indias first industrialists were redrawing the blueprint of commerce and industry, a farmer's son was hard at work redrawing the blueprint of his small business in Nalwa, a village in present-day Haryana. The enterprising young man was O.P. Jindal , Jindal Organizations Man of Destiny. Lacking the expertise to start a manufacturing unit, O.P. Jindal did the next best thing; he started trading in steel pipes. The early years were tough; and what saw him through was his vision and the determination to realize it. By 1952, he was proficient and experienced enough to set up the groups first factory at Liluah, near Calcutta for the manufacturing of steel pipes, bends and sockets. Soon thereafter, a similar manufacturing unit was set up at Hisar. This period also saw the emergence of a professional culture. Jindal - the proprietorship was transformed into Jindal - the organization. In the early 60s, Jindal R & D showed promise by developing Indias first 100% indigenous pipe mill, again at Hisar. This was a breakthrough, the first of many in the years to come. Jindal built up a reputation for ingenuity of product and product integrity. In 1970 , he established Jindal Strips Limited and a mini steel plant set up at Hisar to manufacture coils and plates through the electric and furnace route. The management of the company is now looked after by the four able sons of O.P. Jindal- P.R. Jindal, Sajjan Jindal, Ratan Jindal & Naveen Jindal and his grand daughter Sminu Jindal.

Since its inception in 1970, when the Jindal Plant was set up in Hisar, the Jindal Organization has come a long way. Starting out by being the first private sector steel plant with technology developed by its R&D division, today the Jindal conglomerate is a name to reckon with in the Indian industry. This US$ 12 billion multi-locational industrial giant is equipped with world class technology to manufacture products matching international standards. A HISTORY CHECKED WITH DISTINCTIONS In these 38 years the Jindal Organization has emerged as the largest producer of stainless steel in the country. The company has the distinction of being the largest sheet galvaniser and cold rolled coil producer in the private sector. The Organizations history is indeed checkered with many such distinctions like being the sole producer of U-O-E SAW pipes in Asia (except Japan), and the only Indian company to use the acclaimed Corex steel technology, the third in the world to do so. THE TECHNOLOGICAL EDGE The hallmark of the organization's achievements and growth has been its ability to develop, adapt and adopt the latest technology, to match the demands of a dynamic and burgeoning Indian industry. Seeing doors where others see walls At Jindal, research is a self-imposed discipline; a challenge it has pursued with a pioneers zeal. Exploring new ideas and attempting breakthrough products and processes. For instance, tracking and adopting the latest in world technology, anticipating customer needs with cost-efficient , reliable solutions, and promoting engineering skill and manpower caliber. Jindals R&D investment, together with its R&D capability has given it a headstart over others. Quality control not only in the machines, but in the mind first. Perfection does not begin at the manufacturing plant. It begins in the mind. It is a challenge that Jindal has overcome through diligence and discipline and by encouraging its employees to develop a sense of pride in their jobs. Jindal products has few peers. Both in terms of product performance and product reliability.

Air polustion
Jindal Steel & Power Limited is deeply passionate about maintaining a clean and green environment in & around its plants. Air pollution is one of the major challenges that any company has to overcome in order to adhere to environmental norms. Keeping this in mind, JSPL follows a procedure of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) for the prevention of Air Pollution. Every aspect of pollution generated due to plant activities is monitored in detail and adequate steps are taken to minimize it. The company has installed the latest technical devices suitable for the purpose of reducing atmospheric pollution. Functionalities of these devices are in turn, checked by Opacity Meters. The levels of pollutants in Flue Gas and Ambient Air are continuously monitored through automated devices such as Opacity Meters and Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (AAQMS). Some of the air pollution measures (unit wise) adopted by JSPL are as follows:

Coke Oven Plant: Waste gases are burnt completely and the heat generated is used in Waste Heat Recovery Boilers (WHRB) for power generation. Sinter Plant: A centralized de-dusting system with an Electrostatic Precipitator is installed for dust control in the raw material handling area. High capacity ESP also exists to control process emissions. Blast Furnace: The blast furnace is cleaned through cyclone and two-stage venturi scrubber (Gas Cleaning Plant). Pulse jet and invertible bag filters have been installed for controlling the emission from the stock house and junction points. SMS (EAF & Ladle Furnace): The gases are sucked through the Fume Extraction System and taken to After Combustion Chamber for converting CO to CO2. Thereafter, the gases are passed through a cooling system, forced draft cooler, spark arrester to control coarse dust and subsequently through high efficiency bag filters to separate particulates. DRI Kilns: Dust Settling Chambers and ESPs (Electrostatic Precipitators) have been installed to control process emissions. Fugitive dust is controlled through multiple point suction hoods attached to bag filters. Power Plant: The flue gas from boilers is passed through ESPs and discharged through stack.

SAF: The emissions from the furnace are drawn in to high capacity dust extraction system, where the particulates are trapped and treated gas is passed through chimney. Other fugitive emissions: The fugitive emissions caused through non-process activities such as haul roads and stockyards are managed through good housekeeping practices and regular dust suppression through water sprinkling.

Water polustion
Water pollution is a major environmental concern today that adversely affects the surroundings, causing serious injury to the environment as well as human health. At JSPL, water pollution is controlled by following a range of stringent regulatory measures and monitoring processes. The company has attained Zero Discharge status by adopting state-ofthe-art technology for water treatment. As per the guidelines of CREP, a 4.3 4.9 m3 per T of long product is currently being used by JSPL. Some of the measures, which have been implemented for effective control of water pollution, are as follows:

Coke Oven Quenching: The waste water generated during quenching is taken to settling tanks. After settling, the water is reused for quenching. Sinter plant: Blow-down water is used in sinter nodulizing. Blast furnace: Dust laden waste water is treated in effluent treatment plants and the treated water is recycled back to the process. SMS: The waste water is taken to a settling tank and the outlet water of the tank is reused. The blow-down water is used in slag granulation. Rolling mill: Process waste water is skimmed for oil and scale and then recycled back to the plant. No wastewater is discharged. DRI: Cooling close-circuit effluent-recycling system has been installed. Waste water from the cooling section is taken to a hot water well and then to the cooling tower and the cold water well, from where it is recycled back into the process. Power Plant: DM plant wastewater is treated in the neutralization pit. After treatment, the water is reused for wet ash handling system. Submerged Arc Furnace: Waste water is reused for slag cooling and dust suppression. Sewage Treatment Plants (STP): Three sewage treatment plants have been installed. The treated water is reused in the development of greenery. Garage, DG Set & Compressor Houses: Oil separators have been provided. Clean water is further treated in the STP.

Solid manegment

Polici es

Awar ds

The organization through extensive R & D activities has identified various solid wastes that could be used as productive inputs. The company pursues the policy of three Rs -- Recycle, Reduce and Reuse -- that minimizes the risk of solid waste contamination. The main objective of the company is to transform solid waste into wealth in order to benefit from it. The Parsada dump yard of JSPL stores solid waste on a temporary basis and then for further re-use, the solid waste is transported to the sinter plant.

Some of the plans undertaken by JSPL to effectively control solid waste are as follows: In order to generate bio-gas from cow dung, two bio-gas plants have been constructed. It is mainly used for cooking and other domestic purposes. The Vermi-compost plant allows conversion of organic waste to manure by using earthworms. The resultant manure is used for the purpose of gardening. A modern and state-of-the-art health-care centre allows scientific collection of bio-medical waste and its effective disposal to an authorised recycler. Power is generated from coal rejects, fines, char, etc through fluidized combustion boilers. Waste heat of the sponge iron plant is being used in the boiler for power generation. Use of waste gas from the blast furnace as an alternative fuel in the reheating furnace, DRI and coal dryer. SMS slag is used for road making, while that from the blast furnace is used for making cement. All construction activities of the company are done through fly ash bricks.

As per the Fly Ash Notification Law, which came into effect from 1999, JSPL has attained Fly Ash Utilisation Status. Steps have already been taken to achieve a level of 100% utilization of the same. The ash is partly used for brick making, ash dyke rising, road and embankment construction, cement manufacturing and land filling. A separate brick making plant has also been constructed to utilise the fly ash generated from the power plant. The plant capacity of 60,000 bricks on a daily basis has already been met.

Our Vision To create a competitive advantage for all stakeholders through effective people management. Our Mission The Company embraces certain core values in order to function ethically, effectively and prosper further:

Respect for Individual: Recognize each individuals contribution in the growth and

development of the Company. Treat all Jindalites with respect and dignity.

Integrity: Conduct all business dealings along transparent lines. Meritocracy: Foster an environment of excellence in performance. Dynamic Thinking: Demonstrate a winners attitude, with a clear focus to deliver sustained values for all stakeholders.
