Lima, Peru Peruvian government officials selected APM Terminals to run Terminal Muelle NorteintheportofCallao.TheportprojectsupportsthePeruviangovernmentsinitiativeto continuetomodernizeitsportinfrastructuretomeetthecountrysgrowingtradeneeds.APM Terminals Callao will invest USD 749 million to modernize and transform Terminal Muelle Norteintoamodernmultipurposeterminalforcontainers,generalcargo,RoRocargo,break bulkandcruiseships.Atfullcapacity,theterminalwillbeabletohandle2.9millionTEUand9.9 milliontonsofnoncontainerizedcargo. WearedelightedthatAPMTerminalshasbeenselectedforthisimportantnationalprojectby the leaders of Peru. It underlines the value our port expertise delivers to governments and customerswhosefocusisonmeetingtheircommercialandoperationalobjectives,saidPeder Sondergaard, Senior Vice President and Head of New Terminals. APM Terminals is focusing expansion plans on the fast growing economies around the world and is continually strengtheningitsLatinAmericanscopeofoperations.Projectslikethisenableustobuildonour strengths,andfacilitategrowthinthenationalandregionaleconomiesandtrade. Argentina:BuenosAires APMTerminalsoperatestheT4containerterminalthatservesasagatewayforthesouthern cone of South America, including Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Southern Brazil. Terminal 4 at the Port of Buenos Aires was the first APM Terminals facilityin the Southern Hemisphere.Throughputin2010was230,000TEUs. Brazil:Itajai LocatedinSouthernBrazilatthePortofItajai,Teconvihasanannualthroughputcapacityof 600,000TEUs.Itajai,Brazilsfourthbusiestcontainerportin2009with593,000TEUshandled, istheworldslargestpoultryexportcenter,andisanincreasinglyimportantgatewayforboth theFarEasternandEuropeantradelanes. Brazil:Pecm APMTerminalsoperatesthisimportantreeferportinNortheasternBrazil,32miles(51km) fromtheCearastatecapitalofFortaleza.CTOofferstwo350meterberthswitha16meter draft,andanannualcapacityofabout100,000TEUs.Highvaluereefercargoes,particularly fruit,andshorttransittimestomajorAmericanandEuropeanportsmakePecemastrategically importantloadcenterintheSouthAmericantradelanes. APM Terminals is building a new container terminal withBrasil Terminal Port Portuario (BTP) whichwillbeoperationalbymid2013.Thenewcontainerfacilitywillfeature16meterwater depthandacapacityof2.2millionTEUwhenfullybuiltout,toserveBrazilsfutureambitions throughaworldclassportcapableofhandlingthenextgenerationofvesselsforthetrade.
