Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

It was so nice to see the knights with their rakes, weed whackers, bags, brooms, on a mission, to clean up the parish grounds . As we care for our own homes and the impressions it leaves, when people drive up to it or come into our house, one sees a sense of pride. We are proud of all, that we have done, to our homes. We teach our children to take care of their rooms. So too with our parish home, we feel a sense of pride as we drive by, we see how it is maintained. We are all caretakers of the parish grounds . As I have shared in my homilies, this is your home, parishioners, I am just the temporary care taker. Pastors come and go, as I will go, in a couple years, but you, as parishioners will remain here at CTK, for years to come. With Gods help, may you inspire others in the community to care for the grounds as you have all done. Gratefully, Fr. Peter

A Fathers Prayer

Carnations for Dads Fathers Day - June 19th

The Council of Catholic Women invites you to be part of our Flowers for Fathers Day project. To have their names printed in the a special insert in the Bulletin on Father's Day and to order Carnations to honor your Father. Grand Fathers and God Fathers. Simply write the names you wish to remember printed in all capital letters and add your name and phone number along with $2.00 for each Carnation you order. Then place completed orders with payment in an envelope marked CCW Flowers in the collection basket during Mass. Flowers will be handed out to those who ordered them on Father's Day. The deadline to have the names published in the bulletin is June 12th .

Lord, I need your special care. Like your earthly father, Joseph, I want to do God's will, even if I may not always understand. Make me gentle and selfless in the care of my family and children; help me guide them in the toils and troubles, the happiness and wonders of this life. Like my Father in heaven, make me strong in love and forgiveness for those you entrust to my care. No one can do these things rightly, Lord, without your constant help and boundless mercy. Be with me always, and may I come to you in heaven, and all my family with me. Amen.

Last year the Council of Catholic Women planted the grasses, five perennials shrubs and annuals in the south west garden area adjacent to the Parish Life Center. This spring, between the rain storms, we again planted the annuals in that area. Our thanks go out to Mary Ann Norton who gave of her time to research what annuals would do well in the area because it gets the hot afternoon sun. Also thanks to Don Knox and Rodger D'Souza who turned over the soil and mixed in garden soil and compost in the area. Last but not least, a big thank you to Gerry Dean, Mary Ellen Clish, Chris Pawlowski and Barb Collins for planting the annuals. This year the maintenance will not be very time consuming - if anyone is interested in taking a week or two this summer to make sure that the weeds pulled and perhaps fertilizing the annuals call Barb Collins 630-620-1274. It is a nice peaceful spot to sit and say a little prayer. Think about it! Would you and your family like to plant the flowers next year? What better way to give praise to the Lord! God Bless and have a great summer, Council of Catholic Women

Word of Life
As Pope Benedict has said, no one of us is some casual, meaningless product of evolution . . . each of us is the result of a thought of God. . . each of us is willed, each of us is loved, each of us is necessary (Benedict XVI, Inaugural Homily). This is the message of hope that we humbly offer to women considering an abortion, to those in need of healing in the aftermath of an abortion. And to those who find themselves deeply unhappy, because they have been deceived by a culture that relentlessly tells us that we are happy only when we live for ourselves and not for others, that we are free only when our autonomy is absolute. God made us, you and me, in this image and likeness. This means we are made to be with others and for others. ~Most Rev. William Lori, Bishop of Bridgeport, Homily, Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Jan. 24, 2011

As we come to a close to our Easter Season, we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit. We celebrate coming out of the darkness into the world enlightened by the Spirit of God, who calls us to finish the work Jesus started. We now become the hands and feet of Jesus, and God created each of us perfectly with the gifts we need to continue that work. What are your gifts? How can you put those gifts into action as the Disciples did on that first Pentecost? Here at Christ the King we have many opportunities to share your gifts with others. We need each of you to give your time and talent as well as treasure to build the Kingdom here on earth. If your gift is one of service, why not consider joining the Service Commission or one of its many organizations that enable our Parish Community to put into practice Catholic social teachings, expressing them through the works of mercy. Organizations within the Service Commission are:

Council of Catholic Women- (CCW) supports empowers and educates all Catholic
women in the parish through service and special events. They also provide assistance to those in need through various organizations such as Support Our Troops, Catholic Charities, and Womens Choice Services Knights of Columbus-provides spiritual, social and service opportunities for the men of the parish promoting charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. They also support many worthy organizations outside the Parish such a Shop with a Cop and Special Olympics. PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) provides food, clothing, and shelter to the homeless in DuPage County while keeping in mind the dignity every person has a God given right to. St. Vincent DePaul Society helps the needy in a variety of ways but primarily through our own food pantry which services many families in the area. They also run our Giving Tree as well as prepare food baskets at various times of the year. Hospital Visitors or Ministers of Care bring the Eucharist to those who cannot make it to Mass offering a friendly visit to the recipients. Hospitality provides welcome and time to socialize with other parishioners after the Masses. Marthas Circle and Ministers of Consolation assist with the grieving process by providing the bereaved planning assistance, wake visits, and support for the families. Marthas Circle can provide a luncheon for the guests when the funeral is at Christ the King.

This is only a quick overview of what each organization provides the parishioners of Christ the King. Each organization is always looking for extra members and support to assist with their programs. If you would like any information about any of these organizations, or would like to join, please call Sherry Rochford-Staff Liaison to the Service Commission at 630-396-6078 or sherry@ctklombard.org and she will get you to the right place! Please consider your gifts and answer the call of the Spirit.
