Delhi metro map This handy, schematic map for the Delhi metro lines was a suggested design solution to tackle tourist influx during the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, 2010. The design is based on extensive user research and data analysis so as to determine the appropriate order and arrangement of information on the map. This map was designed for the navigating stage of a users public transport use. The map is a representation of the Delhi metro routes along with its 137 stations (some of which were under construction during this project), various tourist sites and Commonwealth games sites.

Delhi metro map Road sign pictograms This project was part of the work done for revising the Indian Road Congress Road sign manual, IRC67. The manual, not updated since 1967, had several discrepancies. The pictograms, especially, were blatant copies of the ones used in UK road signs. The suggested pictograms or the artwork which were to be used in the cautionary, informatory and mandatory road signs were tweaked and redrawn to make them distinct and clean while conveying the information with ease. The typographic layouts, typeface specifications and colours were also standardized. The final revised version, IRC67:2010 was published in late 2010.

Delhi metro map Road sign pictograms SpaceDebut As an extension of the classroom projects we did in our second semester, me and my batchmates were given a chance to be part of a workshop jointly organized by the National Institute of Design, India and Institute for Information Design, Japan in Tokyo, Japan in July, 2008. This systems thinking based workshop was an exercise in observing and analysing a foreign culture in the constrained context of interactions using public spaces, local trade centres and storytelling. This group project resulted in several service based products to induce spontaneous and engaging communication in public spaces.

Delhi metro map Road sign pictograms SpaceDebut Public transport mobile app This easily accessible mobile application was designed to help users navigate through a city using only public transport. The easy interactions made usable information readily available on a popular medium. The interaction of the application was a simple three step process wherein the user has to put in his current location and destination, opt to view a roadmap in case he is planning to navigate in his own vehicle or a Transmap, which is the same route shown as accessible by public transport. The Transmap displayed the route mapped schematically with intermediate stops/stations, fares and distances marked.

Simple interactions based on information made available through photographs increased its reliability. Open forums and inputs from other people who have visited the city also added to the reliability of the information.

This was a proposal for the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad. The system was designed on the basis of extrapolating the areas crowd flow analysis and time & placement study. Various details such as font, colour, placement, orientation and size were modified to maximize the viability of the signage system during emergencies.
This project was an attempt at understanding an individuals visual perception and the ability to absorb information while in an emergency situation. Taking the case study of an airports departure lounge, a detailed evacuation plan, complete with locations and content was developed.

Delhi metro map Road sign pictograms SpaceDebut Public transport mobile app Public transport web app Airport emergency wayfinding Camera icon redesign This project focused on the way a user understands and uses icons. The objective was to take the case of a common household device, in this case a compact digital camera, and try and analyse its usability. Various cameras with similar functionality were considered, studied and compared with each other to find the significance of each icon and determine their communication capability. Usuability testing methods such as ranking tests, task analysis and critical confusion were used to compare the cameras. The final goal was to produce a set of simple, wellexecuted and efficient icons.

Delhi metro map Road sign pictograms SpaceDebut Public transport mobile app Public transport web app Airport emergency wayfinding Camera icon redesign Waste management infographic This project was done as a case study of three adjoining villages near Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Using the existing system of waste management, a suggested model was developed which can be superimposed and implemented while retaining the various components of the existing system. The visual language of the infographics were kept extremely simple by including visuals that were observed during the research phase, usage of primary colours and using photographs instead of abstract graphics. The final infographics and the process was documented and sent to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and local panchayats as a proposal.
