The Bureau of Alternative Learning System Announces the October 2009 Alternative Learning System Accreditation and Equivalency

(ALS A&E) Test Registration

W hat is the ALS A&E Test? It is designed to measure competencies of those who have not finished either the formal elementary or secondary education. A&E Test (registration, administration and certification) is FREE. One has to register during the prescribed period before taking the nationwide test in October 2009. W ho are qualified to take the test? Unemployed/underemployed OSY/A; Formal schools leavers/drop-outs; Persons with physical disabilities; Inmates, rebel/soldier integrees; Members of cultural minorities / indigenous peoples; Industry-based workers, housewives, helpers, factory workers, drivers

W hat are the requirements for regi stration? Must be a Filipino citizen and a school drop-out Must be at least 15 years old for the Secondary Level test or at least 11 years old for the Elementary Level Test Should bring the following requirements upon registration: Two (2) 1x1 latest photo Any of the following proofs of identification: o Copy of birth certificate o Company/employer ID o o o o o Postal ID/voters ID TIN/SSS/GSIS card Valid drivers license Valid passport Form 138

NOTE: Prospective registrants for Secondary Level who are between 15-17 years old and for Elementary Level who are between 11-13 years old MUST present copy of birth certificate.

How does one register for the A&E Test? Test Registration is extended until August 31, 2009 at designated Registration and Testing Centers in 199 divisions nationwide (posted below). The prospective test taker/registrant shall accomplish the registration form and shall: Provide requirements for registration Accomplish the registration form Submit registration form to the Test Registration Officer; and Get the lower portion of the registration form for presentation to the Examiner on the day of the test.

What does one benefi t after passing the ALS A&E Test? Enroll as High School Freshman for elementary level passers; Enroll in post-secondary courses (tech/voc, two/three/four/five-year course of the CHED and PASUC member institutions); Access to Meralco Foundation, Inc. and TESDA skills training programs; and Opportunity to acquire eligibility to government employment positions under CSC Resolution No. 499

What is the ALS A&E Test made of? The Test is divided into 2 parts: the Multiple Choice Tests and the Composition Writing. The test runs for 3 hours and 30 minutes for the Elementary Level and 4 hours and 15 minutes for the Secondary Level. What does an A&E test passer do after results are released? An A&E Test passer gets the following documents by visiting the concerned Offices: What 1. Certifi cation for those residing within NCR and nearby provinces (upon request) a whole single-page document signed by the Director IV (BALS) or by the Regional Director of NCR and/or Schools Division Superintendent certifying that he/she passed the test. Outside NCR, Certification may be claimed at the: 2. Examinee Report Form (ERF)/ Individual Test Result (those who failed can also claim this document) Issued only ONCE Where - Bureau of Alternative Learning System (BALS) DepEd Central Office, 3/F Mabini Bldg., Meralco Avenue, Pasig City; Bring A&E Test admission slip.
