A robust research environment and the experience gained over two and a half decades of testing employees at entry, middle and senior levels as well as assessing in general and specialist cadres, ensures that the Institute provides methods of selection which are efficient and relevant to the job profile. Promotion and placement: The Institute not only helps to identify talent to be sourced from the market through the recruitment process but also helps to identify employees within organizations with the necessary competencies to cope with roles and responsibilities. promotion assessments for both Generalist and Specialist cadre employees across levels of the organizations. Activities Online apps registration: With the world becoming tech savvy, the Institute realized that there was a need to adopt advanced processes of applying and receiving applications for jobs. Since 2006 IBPS has successfully introduced online receipt of applications with intimations through email or SMS. Additionally Bilingual Applications, Photo/ Signature/ Biodata upload are possible as per client requirements. Today almost 90 percent of the applications are received in this mode and this method is successful even with rural applicants. An advantage of technology is that a huge number of candidates can appear for the testing process irrespective of distance. IBPS also makes wide application of technology in HR interventions. To handle academic matters, the Institute has professionally qualified faculty members who have specializations in Psychometrics, Human Resources, Educational Measurement, Banking and Finance, etc. The faculty group caters to client organizations needs by studying job requirements, developing appropriate tests and selection tools, coordinating research studies, conducting assessment and training programmes, guiding doctorate level research in management studies. The major strength of the Institute is that it develops all the ability/aptitude tests inhouse through its own faculty members, which gives the Institute an edge over any other such Institute. IBPS has on its panel over 750 academicians, bankers, over 2000 trained test administrators and other professionals of proven integrity, all over the country. It has the capacity to conduct written examinations with their help, simultaneously all over the country in over 150 cities/towns for over 300 thousand candidates in one session. Moving beyond traditional testing methods, IBPS has introduced online testing for recruitment and selection in its client organizations. It has been one of the pioneers in Online testing module especially in the financial sector. It currently has the capacity to hold online examination for over 5000 candidates across the country in a single session. It ensures providing a congenial test environment, high availability servers at data center, secure leased lines, test centers having range of capacities - from 10 PCs to over 100 PCs, trained test administrators at the test centers for proctoring and professional support. Post exam activities include evaluation of candidates answer sheets and result processing. Objective papers are evaluated with the help of our in-house computerized scoring system (OMR scanners). IBPS pioneered the computer based scanning system in India and at present has a capacity of scanning more than 200 thousand answer sheets a day. The Institute is, perhaps, the only one in the world having a unique distinction of handling a massive number each year. It is known for assessing candidates with accuracy and this process is time tested and validated.

Currently, the Institutes testing and evaluation is based on the Classical Test Theory (CTT), but is moving towards Item Response Theory (IRT).

Prerequisite for job effectiveness is a judicious mix of competencies. While written test focuses on the intellectual potential, group exercises concentrate on socio-emotive traits that are required for the job effectiveness. Group exercises primarily focus on assessment of latent traits such as inter-personal competence, communication, team building skills, analysis and reasoning, ideation, leadership traits etc. The Institute has an experience of more than two decades in conducting group exercises for banks, public sector organizations; management institutes, private sector banks and the multinational companies. Over the period of 25 years, the institute has tested over 100 thousand candidates through Group exercises.

The Institute also conducts interview skill training programmes to train interviewers in the art and science of conducting interviews. The objective behind conducting interviews is to check the inter-personal skills of candidates along with tacit knowledge about the job profile. It has a credible, skilled and experienced team of experts that is located in all metropolitan cities and state capitals of India. In the past two years, it has assessed more than 50,000 candidates through the process of interviews in more than 20 locations across the nation.

IBPS is known for its computerized processing and is one of the institutions to popularize technology like use of Optical Mark Reading, OMR (1985). It has also developed unique software for identifying cases of use of unfair practice during examinations (1986). It has conducted online examinations for inter-cadre promotions in banks (2006). In a short time gap of 3 weeks, the Institute sent call letters to 2.42 million candidates (2008). IBPS has a seamless online registration process for about 3.5 million candidates for a single project (2009). It has also handled filling in of 79,236 vacancies in 35 states/union territories (2010-11). It conducts over 400 examinations in a calendar year. It also conducts examination for 600 thousand candidates at 200 centers across 2000 venues in one day. IBPS does testing for over 13 million candidates in a year. For senior level selection and promotion, the Institute has promoted Scientific Assessment Centre process (1996). It has a reservoir of highest number of tested items (Question Bank). IBPS also contributes tremendously towards conservation of environment through Paperless Registration Process. Thus, it saves about 100 tonnes of paper usage every year. It is one of the institutes to have initiated high value projects for private sector (2009). IBPS launched selection tests in 13 languages for RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme (2007).
