Two little boys had one big dream Like many little boys, Ashwani and Abel had a dream to drive racecars and participate in rallies. While their boyhood dream wasn't exactly unique, their ambition certainly was, and today Ashwani and Abel are going to do what they always wanted. Considered to be the pinnacle of motorsports in India, Raid-de-Himalaya competition is unattainable for most independent racers, especially those with self-built cars and self-funded racing expenses like Ashwani and Abel. Up against factory-backed teams and the biggest names in the Raid, they are underdogs in a big way. But that doesn't stifle their big dream and they hope to return as champions, finishing the grueling rally, beating teams with more than double the horsepower, all-wheel drive, and multi-million dollar budgets. This new team is fueled by passion to make a difference.

Inside the

Raid-de-Himalaya
It's the baddest, meanest, toughest motor vehicle rally in Asia, if not the world. A true test of man and machine, in the Raid de Himalaya, participants put their life and limb in jeopardy, turning into extreme adventure buffs. Spreading like a virus with each passing year, the 'Raid' is attracting new addicts to the adrenalin rush - from housewives, doctors, property-dealers, techies to even NGO types! In a journey like no other, in 6 days participants cover 2000 kilometers of unbelievably beautiful, yet harsh and difficult dirt, slush, mud and icy terrain, across dizzying heights of 11 passes including the world's second highest motorable pass. Here, the rarefied atmosphere makes breathing difficult and temperatures drop10 degrees Celsius below zero even in autumn! One little mistake or an error of judgment either by the driver or the navigator could mean the end - of the rally and possibly life! Little wonder that only 25% of participants make it to the finishing line of the only Indian motor sport event that is listed in the off road rallies calendar of Federation Internationale Motorcyclisme, Geneva.

Getting it

all together

Ashwani and Abel might have had their own dreams, but they would have stayed in dreamland if it hadn't been for the other two people on the team -- Vikram and Monga. Both talented filmmakers who love travel, they were responsible for bringing Ashwani and Abel together. Bikes, cars, wheels, speed -- a shared passion makes for a great introduction. After a few late night chats over chai in Vikram's studio, he suggested that the duo put their skills together and give their one big dream a shot. He even offered to start off their rally piggybank with a contribution from his own wallet. Then came the hunt for the perfect car that wouldn't break the bank. They found it in an unusual place: the Wheeled Beast started life as a sedate Parliament Gypsy! It's undergoing modifications in Ashwani's Gurgaon workshop to make it ready for serious rallying.

But as the preparations got hotter,Vikram and Monga wanted to get into the fun. They've decided to document the dream -- with a snazzy film that tells the tale of how a mechanic-turned biking camp and a creative director with no rally experience are taking on the biggest names in rallying in the arena of the Himalayas. The film will have it all -- from the early introductions and brainstorming sessions, the modifications and trial runs to the hunt for a medical certificate and the ...It's a riveting storyline: David vs all those Goliaths. With plenty of humour to spice it up, enough rallying details to satisfy the most avid car freak, and team bonding and a growing friendship at the base of it all.
