Dear Ms Dugdale Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 - Release of Information Subject: Dog Foulin Thank you for your request for information which has been dealt with under the terms of the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004. Your request for information has been considered and the information is enclosed. The City of Edinburgh Council does not currently have a full time dog warden. A member of staff within the Pest Control team undertakes this work when necessary. The Council currently employs 48 Environmental Wardens who carry out enforcement for dog fouling as part of their wider range of Community Safety duties. The Council has no policy in relation to dog fouling bins. The provision of these bins is decided at Neighbourhood office level. All dog owners are encouraged to dispose of dog waste responsibily. During 2010/2011 242 fixed penalty notices were issued for dog fouling in Edinburgh. Of these 125 were paid. The money raised from all fixed penalty notices is pooled within a single account therefore the exact amount paid for dog fouling is not known. Using an average of 50 the approximate income in 2010/11 for dog fouling fixed penalty notices is 6,250. After a centralised administration fee is deducted 80% of this figure goes into the general budget for the Environmental Wardens service. Where a fixed penalty notice goes unpaid a report is prepared and sent to the Procurator Fiscal's office. Their is no intention to review our policy on dog fouling at this point in time, our current approach is a balance between education and enforcement. Your right to seek a review If you are unhappy with the way we have dealt with your request, you can ask us to review our actions and decisions by writing to the Head of Legal and Administrative Services, The City of Edinburgh Council, Waverley Court Business Centre 3:1,4, East Market Street, Edinburgh, EH8 8BG or email: foi@edinburgh.gov.uk Please note that your request must be in a recordable format (email, letter, audio tape
