EGM Minutes: 26/01/2011

EGM STARTED: 7:39 PM, EGM ADJOURNED: 9:53 PM, Introduction The Chair (Jessica McGrellis) made a introductory speech. Suggested Constitutional Amendments, The following constitutional amendments were proposed by Hannah Gilman (Past President), 1) An amendment to get rid of Mens and Womens Officer, and split the role of welfare into 3 VP positions, essentially to make welfare provisions for Men and Women. 2) An amendment to split the communications role into Website and Communications Officer and a separate officer for media/publishing. 3) An amendment to create an Events Officer who would take on previous admin duties, such as room booking. 4) An amendment to combine the role of Secretary with the role of Admin. Following discussion on points, - It was suggested that there should be a splitting of positions, placing Secretary into the Exec. - It was also stated that the GULGBT is essentially a Welfare Society, and there the Welfare VP should remain in the Exec. - It was also mentioned that a lot of Welfare criteria was met by the relevant officers. - It was also stated that separate positions with Welfare, also previously had caused strife. - It was also stated that constitutional amendments would best to be amended in an AGM. - It was also stated that the committee had increased in size, but had decreased in effectiveness. 5) An amendment to open up committee meetings too all, and to get rid of Ordinary Members. - It was stated that a direction for the society to take would to be more political, also points were made to keep the First Year Rep. - it was also stated that maybe there is a more of problem of delegation and ordinary members had merit. - A point was made that the Welfare hierarchy should not exist. A vote was than taken to deal with constitutional amendments at this point in time, and the following was recorded, YAH: 1 NAY: 28 Constitutional Articles were than read out Article 10:10 Article 4:6 Article 10:4 Article 5 Article 3.1 Article 3.2 Article 10.7 Article 11,8 Bens resignation statement was read out, Written Committee Response, Response to the resignation of Andy and Hannah,

President Election 20:05: Jessica McGrellis resigned the position of Chair to Graeme Meikeljohn (Mens Officer) for the election. Jessica gave general aims and statement, The Floor was than opened to questions, - The candidate was asked if they were ready for the position as had previously been Womens Officer, - The candidate was asked what her take was on upon running the society. - The candidate was asked how she would address her work and study balance. Votes were than cast, - Yah: 27 - Nay: 1 Jessica McGrellis resumed the position of Chair. VP Welfare Kirsty gave general aims and statement. Hannah gave general aims and statement. Votes were than cast, - Kirsty: 17 - Hannah: 8 VP Admin The role of the VP Admin were read out, The EGM break than took place, and the EGM was adjourned at 20:26, Meeting Adjourned: 20:26, Meeting readjourned: Mark gave general aims and statement, Suz gave general aims and statement, Votes were than cast, - Yah: 29 - Nah: 1 Womens Officer Joanna Arnott than gave general aims and statement, Votes were than cast, - Yah: 26 - Nah: 4 - Abstain: 1 Communications Officer Suz gave a general statement, Votes were than cast, - Yah: 26

Constitutional Amendments
1.Committee Meetings open to general members, - It was pointed out that meetings were already open, pointed out that constitutional amendment to advertise the time of committee meetings should be made. - It was pointed out that this could essentially negate the need for the General Ordinary Members, it was also pointed out that many would not feel comfortable to approach full committee with concerns and queries. - It was also stated that it would be best for the committee to agree to advertise when committee meetings took place, and if this did not take place, than it would than be best to ratify it within the constitution. Motion to make agenda and minutes available to ordinary members, - Motion was passed through a majority within show of hands, 2. A constitutional change to have a 14 day signing up period, so that people could not bring along friends for elections, Motion was voted upon through a simple show of hands, and motion was rejected. Yah: 4, Nah: Majority, 3. A constitutional amendment to effectively strike out the general public from associate member status, Past instances were pointed out which could compromise the welfare element of the society. An amendment to the amendment was proposed, to include former students of Glasgow University still within the position of associate member. It was also pointed that interest from members of the public and that the Glasgow LGBT centre had recently closed down, which meant for many people there would not be a place for them to go. Stated that the power could simply be given to kick out members if they break laws or are threatening to others. Point made to limit attendance at committee meetings and EGMS to university students. Motion was voted upon, - For: 2 - Against: Rest,
