TAOSHOBUDDHA The word Taoshobuddha comes from three words, tao, sho, and Buddha. The word Tao was coined by the Chinese master, Lau Tzu. It means that which is and cannot be put into words. It is unknown and unknowable. It can only be experienced and not expressed in words. Its magnanimity cannot be condensed into finiteness. The word Sho implies, that which is vast like the sky and deep like an ocean carries within its womb a treasure. It also means one on whom the existence showers its blessings. And lastly the word Buddha implies the Enlightened One; one who has arrived home. Thus, Taoshobuddha implies one who is existential, on whom the existence showers its blessings and one who has arrived home. The Enlightened One!

Preface

t was during my Talk at Harvard Meditation the Missing Dimension in Education on Sept 22nd 2009 the concept of this work India the Light of the Being occurred to me. Of course then I thought of writing the spiritual journey through India as India my love my being and my presence. In the process of time the topic got erased from the desk-top of my memory. It was only a week ago it was recovered during a flash and then I decided to complete the work. And this book of over three hundred pages finished in just three days. This is what I call My Love, My Being, and My Presence that India is.

INDIA - THE LIGHT OF THE BEING AN EXCERPT Indeed the spirit of the country of my birth and heritage pulsate through my being and the echoes of its spiritual heritage linger in my ears like the dissolving notes of an enchanting melody. For the first time, this was infused into my ears by a Naqshbandi Sufi Brij Mohan Lal (my mothers father) when I was just eight months. Since then many buddhas and masters have nourished and nurtured the awareness in myriad ways. Now I listen to such echoes perennially as I traverse along the lifes roads. And lo there is sudden explosion of awareness. India is the inner space of every meditator. It is Journey towards the discovery of inner Spiritual Treasure. There is a spiritual part of India which is beyond the material poverty and riches that your physical eyes cannot envision. Your cameras cannot photograph it. Your training, your education cannot capture it. When you are connected to that innerness deep within only then you are worthy of being called denizen of India. Then it will not matter where you are born or grew up. All that will matter is that you breathe the spirit of India. Your life reflects the spirit of India.

INDIA - THE LIGHT OF THE BEING AN EXCERPT Indeed it is this India that I speak to you about. This is not the India of dreams. Instead it is the India the land of Buddhas. India is not a piece of land that was divided and sub-divided many times. It is not verily a land that was invaded and ruled many times for various reasons. India is just not a piece of land that was ruled many times over the long period of history. It is something more than a mere piece of land. It is consciousness, poetry, and a metaphor. The real India is not visible to mortal human eyes. To see and feel the innerness of India you need to be a witness to your consciousness. India is vibrating with certain energy fields which no other country can claim. Such energy is the outcome of thousands of mystics meditating over a long period. It takes thousands of years before the seed of awareness goes deep enough and penetrates your layers of consciousness and sprouts. Sometimes lives pass and nothing happens. And then suddenly like dj vu something happens and Lo the flowers of awareness are blossoming.

INDIA - THE LIGHT OF THE BEING AN EXCERPT And then when thousands of people penetrate the layers of their individual consciousness there is an explosion. This explosion creates the aura or energy field of the country. With snow-caped Himalayas being the thousand Petal center of Indias psycho-spiritual existence there is awakening that echoes through the message of its inhabitants from times immemorial. Krishna echoed this message as the Bhagvad Gita. Valimiki, Veda Vyas, Tulsidas, Nanak, Kabir, Mira, Dnyandev, Patanjali, Gorakh, Panini, Buddha, Mahavira, Moinuddin Chisti, Mijaddadi Alif Thani, Nizamuddin Aulia, Amir Kushroo, and many other innumerable enlightened beings all sang the glories in infinite ways. Shankar gave the clarion call through the immortal call for the dawn as Bhaja Govindam. Not only that Jesus and Mohammed sent their messengers of peace to this solemn land. India is the confluence of such dissolutions. Lau Tzu travelled to sojourn on the thousand petal center of India the Himalayas. This was the experiment in the inner realm of the being. Such experiment in consciousness no other country in the world can really claim. And

INDIA - THE LIGHT OF THE BEING AN EXCERPT the experiment that was carried out in India was such that it not only sprouted, it flowered too. Now the tree gives solace and shadow to each weary traveler. And you are ready to lose that immense treasure of flowers. And you will lose it, because you do not see anything in it. You have turned your back on it. You no longer see any meaning in it. The beauty and the fragrance that surrounds this blossoming of consciousness does not create any ripple in you. And the West will have to start from ABC. If it starts on the journey of religion the West will have to start from the point where we started some five thousand years ago, at the time of the Vedas. And for the West to come to the point East reached it will take another five thousand years. However in the meantime the survival of man will become impossible. This is why I say that there is a great responsibility on Indias shoulders and that of its citizens. This responsibility entails the clues, the laws, and the methods of entering human consciousness that we developed. Even if you want to abandon them, hand them over to someone before doing so. That is the

INDIA - THE LIGHT OF THE BEING AN EXCERPT least you must do. But remember, you can only hand over that which has happened within you. You can present the Gita to the West, but it will soon be useless, because the song itself is not in the Gita. There are words in the Gita, but these have already been translated into most of the Western languages. That is not going to solve anything. But how can we give that which was in Krishna? The essence, the Being, the awareness of Krishna! How can we give it to others? The Gita is only the shadow of that, just an echo. How can we hand over that which had happened within Krishna? That can be transmitted only if Krishna goes on happening within us. And this is my way the way of masters so that a meditator is born within you. India has given birth to thousands of such citizens that adorn the spiritual horizon and the entire humanity can bask in such glory. If you too can develop your innerness to have the same light as that of Buddhas wisdom, then there is no harm. The question is not that religion should survive in India or in the West. No, certainly that is not the issue. The question is whether it will survive.

INDIA - THE LIGHT OF THE BEING AN EXCERPT On which soil the temple will be erected is not the issue. It is not important how many temples does your country has. It is not important how beautiful temple you build. All soil is alike. But you are ruining the temple. Your body is the temple. This you have completely forgotten. And you are concerned about the outer temple. Enshrine the awareness there as the idol of harmony, oneness and bliss. Only then you can create a better human. This is another India: the India of the Buddhas, the eternal India. I am part of it, you are part of it. In fact, anywhere, wherever meditation is happening, that person becomes part of that eternal India. That eternal India is not geographical, it is a spiritual space. This India is my Love, my Being, my Presence.
